WFAN in NY is reporting that

Recommended Posts

Bad trade for Philly, they get cap room, but those draft picks are basically a crap shoot since they are in the late 20's and this is the NBA. It will be a deep draft, but not that deep. Not sure how Denver pulled this off without sending Nene somewhere, but it will screw the Nuggets in the future for salary cap.

I really wanted to see AI in Minnesota just because KG deserves more than one championship run in a wolves jersey.

Miller. :(

Yeah, the Nuggets are great on paper, but still, chemistry and all that crap. Either way it'll be insanely fun to watch.

At least the Nuggets will have an All-Star now.

AI can be a good PG when he wants to. He did lots of iso plays in Philly because he was the only guy on the team that was constant scoring threat. In Denver, it won't be just him. If he finds his role quickly, the Nuggets will be a dangerous team. I don't really understand much of the criticism for this move. It's not like Denver was headed for anything but a first round exit before they signed AI. Might as well try something different, because they certainly won't be doing any worse with this move.

Let's also not forget that this "have two scoring guards and win" thing has never worked.
I can't believe you have the nerve to call yourself a Lakers fan...

And, not for nothing, but the '04 Pistons, '90 Pistons and '79 Supersonics all won championships with their starting guards as their top two scorers. I realize that they weren't all Top-10 in the League in scoring for those respective seasons, but if they're the top two scoring options for their respective teams, shouldn't that count?

Denver would have been fine without Carmelo. He's only good for scoring points. Championship teams aren't built on players like that.

Umm, Michael Jordan?

Considering that Wilt was on that Laker team, I have a hard time saying that it was just Goodrich and West carrying the load. I mean, 19 boards A GAME.

You're right about the aforementioned teams having two good scoring guards and winning titles, but in the Pistons case, they had other dimensions to their game. My comment was more towards the fact that two superstar guards haven't pushed a team to the top on their own (Yeah, I know, Melo's not a guard. But he's a selfish player.). I can't say anything about those Sonics, that was way before my time.

Iverson was interviewed by Steven A. Smith and he claims that he never requested a trade from the 76'ers.

Edit.

I was basing it off of a promo that I heard on Espn Radio.

Did you even see it?

He said he didn't DEMAND a trade. He NEVER said he didn't request one. His words were something to the effect of, "If you can't do something to change things around here, then I want out." That's a request.

But that also is a big difference from DEMANDING a trade.

THe sixers got screwed on this deal by the way. There is no way anyone is going to tell me this was the best deal they could have gotten. They probably could have gotten two young guys that woudl contribute and draft picks from boston...a BETTER draft pick than two late twenty picks.

And as for Allen Iverson. You dont have multiple games with 15 plus assist in the NBA without being a pretty good playmaker.

You don't have 16 assist in game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals with your supporting cast being Aaron Mckie, Tyrone Hill and Mutumbo unless you can be one hell of a playmaker.

These guys will be fine. They still aren't better than the top 3 teams in the west (Suns, Dallas, Spurs) and I am not sure if they could take the Lakers.

on TNT kenny anderson was talking about what position AI should play (the 1 with melo at the 3 or play the 2 with boykins at the 1 and Melo at 3). I feel pretty strongly AI should play the 1, PG, because it gives him a specific role that is more than just scoring, and with two high octane scorers, that's essentially, it gives AI a role to help win games without necessarily having to score 30 points. The whole "touches" scoring issue I think would come up more if AI was at the 2 and melo at the 3, since neither of them is really setting up the offense.
