CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2006 Any good deals? And was it sheer hell? I'm currently shopping for an LCD HDTV online at Future Shop (37" Sharp Aquos for $1500) and Best Buy (37" LG for $1000), and I'm beating my head against the desk. BOTH sites are down after heavily promoting their online Boxing Day sales that both start tonight at 8. I can see this happening maybe 3-4 years ago, when online shopping was fairly new, but you'd think they'd have figured out how to handle all their web traffic by now. Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2006 Yep. On the way home from a family thing, I stopped at a Wal-Mart that was still open because I realized we were out of milk and I know my mother has this thing about hot chocolate on XMas morning and all the krogers and biggs were closed. There were people still shopping getting DVDs and stuff. Talk about pushing things off to the very last minute.

CC, Their TV's are that cheap? Wow. My Wal*Mart's hyping a 42 plasma for 1000. It's made by ILO, which aren't nearly as bad as the no-namedness would suggest, but compared to an LG? That Aquos is a steal at 15 hun, while we're at it.

It's gotten to the point where I can realistically think of putting a good 26" LCD in my computer room for way under a grand. I finally managed to get the Aquos an hour and a half after the sale was supposed to start. I checked Best Buy's site after I completed the order, and it was still down. I recall reading they're able to offer them for cheaper prices because the sets are made up of inferior/older parts.

I mean, there's a reason Wal-Mart has lower prices - it's cuz they have shitty merchandise.

Appliances in general have gotten worse. I recall buying a board game, I think it was the Game of Life, and being stunned by how cheap the plastic pieces were. Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2006 My "big" gift was an XM satellite radio, which comes with a car kit. I need to figure out how to install it, and I'd also like to get a "home adapter" kit for it. Also got "New Super Mario Brothers" for Nintendo DS...only problem is that I don't actually _own_ a Nintendo DS. My Mom was confused and thought I did. So, now I gotta figure out if I return the game, or splurge and buy the thing. Oh, I need to find time to play my new copy of Civilzation 4, but who knows when that will happen. Stephen 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2006 On boxing day I picked up all 4 voumes of the James Bond boxset for $50 each, and the Eric Bischoff book Cash creates Controversy which was 30 % off at chapters.
The Amazing Rando 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2006 i went this afternoon to see if i could find any good deals on clothes. Didn't really find anything to suit me, but I did stop into a bookstore and picked up "Good Omens", to add to my collection of shit I need to read.
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2006 I got Saturday Night Live: Season One on DVD for $42 yesterday at Best Buy. I'm going to pick up some new books today and I'll probably try to pick up Da Ali G Show: Da Compleet Seriez later this week.

The Metal Maniac 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2006 I snagged Spider Man 1 and 2, and Shadow of the Colossus for $30. I think I'm going to be sending my brother back in to get me Simpsons Seasons 2 and 3, since they're on two for $35 and he hasn't gotten me a Christmas present yet. CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2006 I finally picked up the complete series of The Office (BBC version) for $40, the Beverly Hills Cop series for $25, and a $50 Phillips DVD player. I struck out trying to find a smaller LCD TV for the den, though. No big names, and I refuse to put money down on the second- and third-tier brands. And it was absolute mayhem. Some bitch stole my parking space that I'd been trying to find for fifteen minutes. I had a brief thought of just parking in front of her car and going into the mall. Oh, and the Aquos came this morning. Man, does it ever look nice. It'll look even nicer when we switch to cable in a couple of months so we can get all the HD channels. I was under the impression Bell had the most HD channels with 28, but a buddy of mine is home from college in Ottawa, and though he told me so drunk, he said Rogers had 32 HD channels. </marvin> What size, by the way? Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2006 I went out on the day after Xmas expecting to burn through gift cards and let that be that. Instead, I wound up finding some very good sales on clothes. In one trip to the mall I wound up grabbing 2 hoodies, a dress shirt, a polo, 2 t shirts, and a hat at Hollister, a wool jacket at Aeropostale, and a pair of boots at Aldo, and spent less than $200. It's a 37". I would have preferred a larger one, but we couldn't fit any larger ones into our entertainment unit, and it would have been too much of a hassle to get rid of the entertainment unit. We're with Bell, but we subscribe to the VDSL service (through the phone line) since we live in a condo apartment and can't get regular ExpressVu. It doesn't have HD capability. It's being replaced by IPTV, but that's not expected to be rolled out until probably 2008, by which time we'll be long gone to Rogers.
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2006 $50 of my cash went to an eighth. The other $25 was spent on gas, booze, and cigarettes. A local music store gift card netted me a $6 used Terminator 3 and the Ministry of Sound's Annual 2007. With my Barnes and Noble card I got the February issue of Car and Driver, a Batman/Superman comic collection, and the entire Crisis on Infinite Earths story in one book. For some reason I couldn't find anything else I really wanted there and couldn't find where the hell the Doonesbury collections were after looking at the Humor section yielded nothing. I'm most excited about the comics for some odd reason. I wanna see what all the fuss is about.
