College Basketball 06/07

Obviously the weekly threads are gaining little if any interest 'round here. Maybe we should just contain it to one thread. Hopefully there's more people here watching these games.

Part of me is thinking that Tubby Smith desperately needs UK to put up some wins against Tennessee and Florida in the remainder of this month because if not UK could be headed for a 13 loss season and that might spell the end of his tenure.

UNC whooped up on Arizona today. They're probably going to breeze through the rest of their schedule with the ACC in what appears to be a down year; I think the Tech loss was just a bad day for them.

On a sidenote that game was probably one of the worst officiated games I've seen in some time, on both sides.

Good effort by Michigan State against Ohio State tonight. They had two good looks from three point land to win it but couldn't nail either one of them.

Good win by UNC as well. Arizona going 4% (1-23) from the perimeter was sad.

What is this, actual decent play from U of L? Got another nice win over Cuse tonight 76-71. Hopefully we can smack Cincy around and get to 6-2 in the Big East. From there if U of L can go .500 the rest of the way that is 10-6 in conf. and possibly a tourney bid.

Danville, as I've said before UK just needs to flat out suck for a year. To go in a new direction UK must bottom out, but the problem is they've already beaten IU and U of L. It's hard to imagine UK firing Tubby after beating both rivals. While I wouldn't suggest actively cheering against UK, in a way it'd be better if Florida, LSU, Bama, and so on just put some beatings on UK.

Personally I had some hope for UK until that Vandy debacle. UK has major problems if they can't beat Vandy at home after the humiliation of being swept last year. Besides that it was a disturbing home loss followed by a road meltdown vs. UGA. Two losses and the following still left: 2 with Tenn., 2 with Florida, LSU, at Bama, at Arkansas, etc.

Wisconsin won today, but I think IU takes them DOWN this week since that one is in Bloomington. IU is turning into the usual Kelvin Sampson team: Competent, tourney worthy, but not particularly inspiring.

UK maimed Tennessee today without Chris Lofton. No shock. Let's see what the Wildcats do now that the schedule will start getting tough.

Did the refs leave their whistles at their hotels? I am an Arizona fans, but you're right, the officiating was TERRIBLE on both sides, no blood, no foul.

If Florida & UNC are not at the Final Four, I will be very surprised.

Stanford comes back from 17 points down to upset UCLA 75-68 and that's after beating USC by 15 on Thursday. They might crack the Top 25 now after looking NIT bound just a few weeks ago.

UCLA may well be one of those high seeds that goes down early in the tourney. Someone like a Texas Tech or IU will upset them in the 2nd round or Sweet 16. I don't really trust Ben Howland's style of play in the tourney, it produces too many scary games. Someone like UNC isn't likely to be upset since they just squash people...but UCLA? They let teams stay in games way too much.

Wisconsin might have the same problem...they play kind of a boring, lower scoring style. Not as bad as the Dick Bennett era, but they don't exactly score 90 a game.

Haven't really been following, as I usually don't until the tourney, but it's nice to see that college hoops seems to be on the rise in Indy again, with 3 teams in the top 25 last I checked (Butler, ND, and the Hoosiers).

I sure as hell am glad that Stanford beat the Broons. It makes USC's loss on Thursday not look as bad.

Hoosier fans seem to be enjoying themselves. Good game. Big upset.

Rematch at the Kohl Center should be swet revenge.

I don't think IU plays Wisconsin again this year, not reg. season anyway. At any rate tonight was hardly any sort of upset, in fact scroll up and I mentioned a few days ago that IU would win this tonight. The line in the paper today was listed as a PK, which means it is an even pick em.

IU is back, ND is very good, but Butler is the best team in Indiana.

Oh, that was awesome! Virginia beats #10 Duke in overtime on a last-second one-handed jumper from Sean Singletary. We're actually 6-2 in the ACC, which is totally unbelievable to me. Go fuckin' Hoos.

U of L should play UVA to see who is the better "Jobber that is 6-2 in conference." I might have to go with UVA at this point, since the Duke win is more impressive than anything my guys have done all year.

With the UFC PPV and the Super Bowl this weekend, it kinda snuck up on me, but Duke/UNC #1 is this coming Wednesday.

I'm hoping for a sweep this year.

Well, UNC is obviously the better team but Duke may well find a way to slip by with a split this year.

The IU/Wisc. game was listed as a total tossup in the paper, meaning it was too close to call and no one was favored. I wouldn't call it a major upset (at best a very mild one). If IU beat Wisconsin in the Big 10 tourney, that'd be a bigger upset.

Yeah... the last two years have been splits. The year that Carolina won the title, they held serve on their home courts (UNC barely on a Miracle shot + 1 from Marvin Williams) and last year they each won on the road.

Just when it looks like Arizona's in the downward spiral to end all spirals, they beat the piss out of Washington.

In other ass-beatings, Georgia Tech KOed Clemson pretty handily to drop them below .500 in the ACC. Looks like the back-to-back heartbreakers against Duke and UVA have cooked Clemson rather soundly. I wonder how hard they'd have to fall to miss the tournament after their monster start.
