I was a Mr. Hughes fan. I always saw him as a bigger star then he really was. He wasn't great in any aspect of the business. But there was a charisma to his standing there with arms folded and his grimace behind the shades.

I've always been a Nash fan. I think he can work a very good match for his limitations.

Brutus Beefcake was my first "favorite wrestler" for whatever reason. I thought his ripped pants were cool and marked when he'd cut people's hair.

WWF

Randy Savage & Ted Dibiase - They were fighting in the match that got me hooked on wrestling on SNME and became favourites of mine because of that.

Mr. Perfect - He was my favourite wrestler until he left the WWF in the fall of 1993.

Demolition - They were so completely dominate and different (I saw them before the Road Warriors) that it was hard not to cheer for them.

Jake Roberts - I really like him as a face, and he was even better when he turned heel in 1991.

Brutus Beefcake - Yeah, I know. He was a fun midcard act and he just got you excited about the product. Plus at his peak, he was a lot better wrestler than people give him credit for.

Greg Valentine - Something about him. He was just a talented guy who went out and did his job and didn't really yammer on about himself like most of the wrestlers at the time. He was a wrestler as much as a character.

Rick Martel - I hated Santana, so naturally I was a fan of his main rival.

The Fabulous Rougeaus - My other favourite tag team. They were always good wrestlers, but they were hilarious after the heel turn.

IRS - The gimmick was silly, but Rotundo made it work and at his peak in Money Inc he was about on equal terms with Dibiase. Better than Captain Mike at least.

NWA/WCW

Ricky Steamboat - As much as I appreciate Ric Flair now, at the time, much like with Hulk Hogan he never appealed to me as much as some of his opponents. Steamboat being one of them. I find it hard for anybody not to like Steamboat in this period.

Barry Windham - Always liked him, even in the Horsemen.

Tully Blanchard - Likewise. These days I'm a bigger fan of Arn Anderson, but at the time Blanchard was the more exciting and showy performer.

Sting - I always preferred Sting to Hogan. He was just so much more athletic than Hogan that his matches were more exciting week in and week out.

Sid Vicious - The best monster heel of the day. He destroyed people.

Brian Pillman - I was quite the fan of his in the early days, although I'd somewhat sour on him later (post-Blondes). Hated his partner Zenk though.

My most hated wrestlers of the time included Tito Santana, Rick Rude, Jim Duggan, Jimmy Snuka, Red Rooster, Tom Zenk, Bobby Eaton, Dusty Rhodes, Scott Hall & Lex Luger. Some of those I've grown to appreciate in retrospect, while others I still can't stand (Luger).

The Headbangers was a great team for its time period since they were better than the pig farmers, the cowboys, city public workers, the 2 tall guys that did powerbombs, etc. Too bad the gimmick was killed the day they were told to wear Madonna cone bras.....I guess Jerry Lawler was jealous that TOO MUCH/COOL didn't get a long title reign or a fan following.

Steve Blackman was different than anybody out there at the time in the WWF he was like the Sandman who was sober and knew martial arts.

Ahmed Johnson - I wondered if he ever had a Jhery Curl cause he was one greasy man I guess he walked around with a bottle of baby oil everywhere. The feud with Farooq was watchable.

Farooq - Who the hell thought it was a good idea to give the man the bright blue Spartacus gladiator costume? DAMN!

Sid - Great on the mic when he would change the tone of his voice from the whisper to the intense voice. Sid was so great at using the Powerbomb that the WWF decided to give the move to everybody who worked for them in 1995!

I was a HUGE mark for Razor Ramon. He was my favorite wrestler when I started watching.

I was always a big, big mark for Bret and Owen Hart too. Much of this is owed to the fact that Bret/Owen WMX was the first really great match I'd ever seen. And when Hart and Michaels had their feud, man did I hate Michaels. A lot of that could have been attributed to McMahon blustering "he may have the girls after him, but he's a MAN'S MAN."

I also fucking loved RIck Rude. He always made me laugh. Matter of fact, he still does, and I can watch any shitty Rude match and still enjoy the hell out of it. I just marveled at the consummate cocky/chicken-shit heel character he was. To this day, if I see him do the hip-swivel "oh my back!" spot, I will crack the fuck up. And he probably did it every match.

On the flipside, I really didn't like Randy Savage back in the day. I think I just wrote him off as a Hogan clone, which is way off the mark. I definitely like him now. That crazy, coked-up character, and skills to boot.

Since I think the theme here is lesser-known wrestlers, or those who won't necessarily be remembered:

Flash Funk

Taka Michinoku

Too Much (Not Too Cool)

The Mountie

The Quebecers

The Beverley Brothers

The WCW Hardcore division was far superior to WWF's. WCW actually had some really great hardcore matches, while in the WWF the division was OMG PETE GAS PINS TORRIE ON TOP OF A URINAL!!11!1!

Don't hate. Raven go-cart chase.

On the subject of hardcore, man I was a mark for Sandman. Entrance+beer belly+looking exactly like Rutger Hauer=GOLD.

Nevermind, we'll have fucking Bischoff slap the cig out of his mouth and treat him like a bitch. That's logical.

Well yeah, the division itself was treated as a joke. It was WCW after all. But despite that the matches themselves were generally good.

I was also a huge mark for Ahmed Johnson (who incidentally I saw in the MC Hammer story a few weeks back...he was playing Suge Knight. Crazy), and I liked Diesel too even though he got a little corny once they put the belt on him.

Others I liked:

Tatanka: You'd have thought somebody shot my dog the day Ludwig Borga ended his streak. I loved Tatanka back in the day.

Bob "Spark Plugg" Holly: I was the only one of my friends to call his Tag Title win at Rumble 95, so I pretty much liked him from there.

THE ROADIE: I'm one of the few who actually liked Jeff Jarrett as Double J, but the Roadie (Road Dogg, B.G James, whatever) seemed 10 times cooler. I really can't ever recall him talking or anything, but just the way he carried himself and everything he just made him seem cool as shit. Plus he did a piledriver from the middle rope! Can't fuck with that!

Dean Douglas: Most underrated gimmick ever.

The Berserker: Mostly for that "HUSS!!" thing he used to do (I should note that I marked hard when I found out that Jimmy Jacobs was doing this gimmick)

The Renegade: Yeah...shut up!

Johnny B. Badd/Marc Mero: Always wondered how he'd have turned out had he not gotten injured.

Bunkhouse Buck: I have no clue about this one, but I liked him for some reason. Probably because he was managed by Col. Rob Parker.

Savio Vega: He cut this crazy half English/half Spanish promo on Double J right after he came in and I was pretty much a mark for him ever since. Wasn't that bad a worker either from what I can remember.

yea I too was ahuge Diesel mark during his big run in 95-96, as well as shawn when he turned face. my whole school notebook was littered with drawings of their logos and stuff. I also loved Ahemd (no not that way ) when he was in his big push, he was just so cool, an ass kicking machine

as for the less known-midacrd guys I always liked those guys

I always liked the undercard guys on the roster as opposed to the main eventers. I used to mark out for:

Al Snow

Steve Blackman

The Headbangers

Crash Holly (Esspecially during the hardcore 24/7 rullings)

Blue Meanie

Rick Rude

Kane (Like in a big way, he was my favourite wrestler within the WWF)

Raven (My favourite wrestler ever)

New Age Outlaws

Super Crazy (Pre WWE)

TAKA

Ill think of some more later

I was a big mark for Bob Holly when he had the racing car gimmick. I wasn't sure why but I marked out big when he beat Mantaur on RAW to qualify for the KOTR in 1995 because at the time I thought Mantaur was this big guy the WWF was pushing kinda hard.

It's funny that everyone here including myself was a big mark for Ahmed Johnson. I thought that the Pearl River Plunge was the coolest move I'd ever seen up to that point.

I was also a big mark for Marc Mero/Johnny B. Badd. I thought he had the coolest moveset. Sucks that he got hurt in early 1997 and was never the same.

"Dr. Death" Steve Williams...I thought he was the baddest motherfucker alive. He wasn't flashy but he got the job done.

Nikita Koloff...it might not have been PC to root for the "Russian Nightmare" but just the way he dismantled his opponents was cool to me back then.

"The Franchise" Shane Douglas...I know a lot of people say the only reason he was over was due to profanity but Douglas made that character stick out apart from all the other extremists in ECW.

"Mad Dog" Buzz Sawyer

Stan "The Lariat" Hansen

Bruiser Brody

"Outlaw" Ron Bass

I wasn't a mark for Ahmed per se, but I did think the Pearl River Plunge was a devastating-looking move, with a badass name. Thing is, years later I realized it looked so nasty because he injured people left and right with it!

And I never was a huge fan of Mero, but his tucked shooting-star press was awesome (the Wild Thing?) was the first time I had seen a shooting-star press, and it really impressed me.

Also, I like Shane Douglas enough, but the Pittsburgh Plunge, which I only remember being used sparingly in WCW, was freaking AWESOME. FOr those who don't remember, it was a fisherman's buster with an immediate small package pin. Sort of an uber Perfectplex. It looked tremendous.

Then he changed it to the awful Franchiser. You know, supposed to be some kind of attacker-inverted stunner, but it looked really weak. Basically a jawbuster.

Speaking of, how many people have used cutter/stunner variatons since Austin (limiting it to North America)? There's

tons: Disco, Shane Douglas, Disciple, Orton, DDP (though I think he predated Austin), Test, Daniels, Mero, Masato Tanaka, Matt Hardy, just off the top of my head. there's tons.
