Favre is returning

Recommended Posts

I think that it will end up being another good draft like last year's. Unless last year's was a total fluke (I dont think it was) it really showed how much blame Mike Sherman should get for the horrible drafts of the previous 5/6 years.

It's nice that a veteran like Brett Favre can come back and play for the same team, unlike some stars in other sports who hold up the same two or three teams for months. *cough* Clemens *cough*

Awesome!

THE RETURN OF FAVRE!

Although I really do think this has gotta be it, and it'd be even nicer if he would say this is it at the beginning or so of the year. This has me psyched.

This was surprisingly short compared to last year, he kept his word. But I think that finishing at .500 and having the whole team play at a good level really helped matters. The schedule next year is a lot tougher though, so I don't know what to predict. All I can hope for is that somehow Green Bay can swing a trade for David Carr.

Would you give up a 3rd round pick for him? Because the speculation here is that is what the Texans will ask for in return.

Bleh, I was hoping Favre would retire. It's probably best to go when you still have your health, and not stinking up the joint before you go.

The Packers would be better off if he left. Favre tries to do too much to carry that offense, and he can't get away with it anymore.

With the NFL today, any team that avoids many injuries and can win a couple lucky games can make the playoffs. But, GB was a bad team last year. They were fortunate to be 8-8. I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Favre with that offensive line in front of him...you won't be able to blink in the time Favre would have to pass. I guess if the Texans want to cement themselves as the stupidest organization in the NFL, that'd go a long way in doing so.

Would anyone in their right mind say that replacing David Carr with Brett Favre would be an UPGRADE? At best, it's a lateral move. They need an improved o-line more than anything else.

I think you missed the point. Green Bay might look at David Carr to back-up Favre.

Brett Favre wouldnt go to Houston. sfajack said the rumor was a trade of a 3rd round pick for Carr. If GB made a deal like that, Carr would probably start the '08 season in Green Bay.

They've given up on Aaron Rodgers already? They used a first round pick and now the guy will be relegated to third string?

I think Carr would be an improvement on Favre... I'm serious, put Carr on a good offense with a decent o-line, and I think he could be one of the best QB's in the league. The last 3 years, Carr's been very efficient with what he's had to work with.

The only negative about trading for Carr is that I don't know how long he'll last. He's only 27, but with the damage he's taken in Houston, from sacks and running quite a bit, I don't see him lasting until 35.

I'm just glad that the Lions get one more shot to beat Favre at Lambeau. Now it's Detroit, so it's a longshot, but it seems as if Lambeau has lost some of its luster. I think even the Browns have won there in recent years.

Actually, the Texans seem hell bent on picking Jake Plummer at quarterback. So truthfully, they are already looking to downgrade at the position and pretend the offensive line is absolutely ok.

How often do you find a team with the same quarterback starting now that was starting 8 years ago? Hell, five years ends up being a stretch in this league. If they could get 5-6 good years out of Carr, I'd say they made a unbelievable move.

I'm not so sure if Carr would be an improvement right away, because I have a feeling David Carr might feel and be a little shell shocked with having enough time to pass. But it's the closest thing that the Packers could get to a young Favre, as Carr has the cannon arm, ACCURACY to boot (not Favre-like), and good mobility. They're also a very similar size and are tough as hell.

The reason why the Packers would think about giving up on Rodgers is that Rodgers was signed to a five year deal when they drafted him... three seasons ago. I was here when they did that, and I went batshit when they did it because there were so many other areas they could've addressed, and while Rodgers was rated the #2 QB in that draft and he fell to Green Bay at #24, I knew Favre wouldn't retire anytime soon and they would essentially just be wasting money on a million dollar rookie backup quarterback, which is what they have done so far. It was a bad move for Rodgers and a terrible move on Green Bay's part. I don't think Rodgers will be a bad quarterback, and he's shown flashes of competence in the preseason and in limited gametime, but he's no David Carr, who, at 27 I believe he is, can be a Pro Bowl quarterback pretty much right away. Even better, they could trade away Rodgers in the draft to a team that might want to take a look at starting him.

A third round pick for Carr is very little compared to the 2nd round pick the Packers gave up for Favre in `92, and I'd say that worked out wonderfully. My worry is that Ted Thompson and the Packers front office might not be considering this move if they're already sold on Favre. If they had fucking listened to me the past three drafts, they'd be a lot better off right now. (I said they should've picked a LB like Lofa Tatupu in the second round and/or Shaun Rogers in the 05 draft.. that would've upgraded the defensive line and LB corps, and even if Green Bay still stunk at 4-12 that season they could've had Jay Cutler last year, who I think will be a very good quarterback).

Maybe Green Bay, Denver, and Houston can do a three way, sending Rodgers to Denver, Carr to Green Bay and Green Bay's 3rd rounder + Jake Plummer to Houston? Everyone gets what they want and Denver gets a bit of an upgrade at backup quarterback (possibly a QB controversy if Rodgers plays well enough).

I am quite pleased at this. This all but assures that Favre will pass Marino on the all-time TD passes list, which is something I've been hoping he'd be able to get. Green Bay will be better off with him as well. They have made a lot of improvements, but they are not the Chargers where they can stick in a first year QB and get success right away.

Who would you want QBing your team?

Player A: 11 TD, 12 INT, 2,767 yds, 7 lost fumbles

Player B: 18 TD, 18 INT, 3,885 yds, 5 lost fumbles

Player C: 23 TD, 20 INT, 3,193 yds, 5 lost fumbles

Player B. A is out of the question. That leaves B & C. C had more TDs, but also turned the ball over more and threw for 700 fewer yards. B is the most productive.

I don't have any stats on hand, so I'm curious as to who these players actually are. Or did you just make them up?

I know B is Favre cause they kept referencing the 18 TD's and 18 INT's today. I think A is Plummer because he didn't play the whole year and those numbers aren't as high as the other two. That leaves C as Carr.

EDIT: Guess I should've known Carr was A with the 7 fumbles(O-Line anyone?). Grossman's numbers ain't too bad.
