Guest Oedipus Rex Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 SmarterChild (8:45:10 AM): GeekHelper can give you helpful computer tips and play fun games. Add GeekHelper as a buddy! Current weather conditions for Winnipeg, Manitoba: Currently: -40 F Condition: Clear Dewpoint: -49 Humidity: 54 % Visibility: 15 mi Wind: WSW/2 mph It's 12 below here, and my classes are cancelled, which means I'm not beholden to real-life commitments today and can waste a shitload of time here at forums.thesmartmarks.com. Hi! Personally, I think SmarterChild is fuckin' with me. No way it's -40 in Winnipeg. He just knows I use Canada's Gateway To The West as a way to feel better about myself when it's cold out, so he just wanted to cheer me up after last night's Rextravaganza. He calls me Jim Thome. I don't know why.
dubq Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 -40?! Fucking awesome! It's -25 right now here in Toronto and it's supposed to dip past -30 later tonight, so -40 isn't that much of a stretch for Winnipeg. I love the cold, btw.
Guest Grossman=Fag Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 Before last night's game, I told myself that if Rex Grossman was the game's MVP, I was going to do a shirtless lap around the parking lot. Luckily the Colts won, because our windchill was 21 below.

I'm talking 40 below Fahrenheit, you centigrading bastard. Toronto shows up as a mere 9. Unless maybe SmarterChild can't get his facts straight. -40 C is still cold as balls, though.
Guest Princess Leena Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 Damn those brutal real-life commitments of going to school and... stuff.
CanadianGuitarist Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 I told a co-worker today, when she told me the temperature, that it was "Winnipeg Cold".
Lord of The Curry Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 Winnipeg is probably the most shit-talked of all Canadian cities. On more then one occasion it's been referred to as the armpit/asshole/taint of Canada. All it seemingly has is lots of car theft, gasoline addicts and a pretty high alcoholism rate.
Art Sandusky Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 Damn those brutal real-life commitments of going to school and... stuff. So... you're better than us this time because it isn't bone-chillingly cold where you are? Not that it's cold here, the high is something like 49 with a fair wind.
Failed Bridge Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 I didn't see her mention the weather... Its 12 degrees out here and I went for my run. The wind made it feel as though a ton of tiny daggers were stabbing me in the face though. I'll be happy when I'm down in South Carolina at the end of this month. The weather should be better and I won't be sleeping on a floor.
Art Sandusky Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 Be thankful you aren't coming down here in July.
Failed Bridge Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 I heard that the time I will be down there will be just about all rain. Is that true?
EricMM Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 I dunno man, I was down for the Johnson and Whales commencement last summer. It was hot, but not THAT bad. No worse than DC in the summer. Now, 40 below? Thats inhuman. You know, we evolved largely to live in the tropics of Africa, not freezing places such as that...
Art Sandusky Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 I heard that the time I will be down there will be just about all rain. Is that true? Eh, maybe. We don't really get any kind of long-term predictable weather until summer, when 2pm-5pm brings a thunderstorm somewhere around here every day. It doesn't get miserably hot and steamy here until July and continues through late August. June's actually pretty nice.
Failed Bridge Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 I'm pretty sure I'll be down there Feb 26th - First Week of June. I hope the weather is fairly tame compared to other places where I've lived. In Mass its all rain and cold through that time while in VA its about 95 degrees and humid in March.
Open the Muggy Gate Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 -40 in Winnepeg? Christ, how cold was it before everyone went batshit over global warming?
Guest Oedipus Rex Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 -40F is -40C according to a converter I used. Sorry for calling you a centigrading bastard, dubQ.
Red Baron Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 -40 in Winnepeg? Christ, how cold was it before everyone went batshit over global warming? Its always that cold in Winnipeg.
Open the Muggy Gate Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 Kinda off-topic, but I didn't feel like making a seperate topic. Here in West Tennessee, we got 2 inches of snow. Schools, colleges, businesses, many places shut down. Friend who lives near South Bend in Indiana tells me they got 18 inches in 3 days. Everything was open. I swear, a few snowflakes, and it's the Day After Tomorrow around here.
death_by_burrito Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 Yeah, I live in South Texas and the same thing happened about a month ago here. Ice, and a bit of snow. Everything shut down, it was funny. I figure it was cause that weather never occurs here and nobody knows how to drive in it, but it was still taken waaaaay out of proportion.

Its always that cold in Winnipeg. welcome to prairies. i've walked in -50 weather. whats the big deal? it sucks. but really, -40 isn't THAT big of a deal.
Boon Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 Had to know it would be a cold day in hell when Peyton won a Super Bowl.
Vampiro69 Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 Hell, -40 is no big deal. All you need to do is let the car warm up a little and let wear an extra sweater.
CanadianGuitarist Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 -40F is -40C according to a converter I used. Sorry for calling you a centigrading bastard, dubQ. Only two times they match up are at -40. Maybe it's just me, but I don't think I could differentiate between -20 and -40. Cold, after a certain point, is cold.

On more then one occasion it's been referred to as the armpit/asshole/taint of Canada. All it seemingly has is lots of car theft, gasoline addicts and a pretty high alcoholism rate. Hamilton is much worse than Winnipeg. That whole city is a fucking dive.

It's -20 today, and it feels practically balmy compared to yesterday, when it was -40.
the max Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 My gal says that with weather like that, she's glader (I know it's not a word) that she moved to the sunny shores of Florida. BTW, it was a ridiculous 59 degrees here yesterday and she complained that she couldn't find her favorite hooded sweatshirt.
Hawk 34 Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 I love the visual of seeing a crowd of guys walking around campus and half are covered in 4-5 layers of long sleeved shirts, 2 hoodies and a t-shirt wrapped around it clutching their man purses for a 2 minute walk between buildings and then you got guys like me wearing jeans, t-shirt and a light track jacket and a ball cap waiting for it to really get cold. This "artic blast" only validates my point earlier somewhere here on my claims that girls are just much more cuter in the winter.
Guest Princess Leena Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 This "artic blast" only validates my point earlier somewhere here on my claims that girls are just much more cuter in the winter. This is 100% incorrect.
