MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2007 Man I'm tired of this forum and all the poor people here. Once you go HD, you never go back. I love my tuner on my computer. Here's HD.20070213213424.bmp I also love playing various stolen movies, sports and games on my XBox in HD. But, the geeks here that say they simply won't watch any SD stuff at all are being stupid assholes. Stuff I'll grudgingly watch in SD: Good Eats (til Directv gets Food Network HD later this year) The News (CNN's going HD later this year, my local news probably never) Orioles Games (simply because MASN isn't available in HD this year and it might not be available on Directv when it is) Ravens Games (because CBS's NFL coverage in HD is terrible..4 HD GAMES each sunday this year..why not all of them like FOX?) RAW/Smackdown/ECW/PPVs (even though it would be possible for all shows to be in HD through Universal HD and CW) Other stuff under special circumstances

Matt Young 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2007 I have an HDTV for my 360, but I don't even have a DirecTV receiver capable of HD programming. Yup. In other news, ViciousFish is in the thread. He and his wife just had a kid. Congratulations, ViciousFish and MissusFish!

A fine comparison, and much funnier if you've previously seen Kids In The Hall. I haven't seen much Kids in the Hall since they took it off of Comedy Central, but that was good stuff. What makes it so muc funnier?

MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2007 I will not switch to a HD TV until the very end, when I'm forced to. That will be so far in the future though..2009 is just for OTA analog transmissions ceasing, it will be another 15 years + past that before they'll get around to doing away with everything that isnt HD. Craig Th 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2007 Some of you people need to visit the AVS HD forums if you think what I do here is bad. You wouldnt understand the problem of stretchovision since you dont have a widescreen TV. Imagine taking the picture you watch now and having it stretched about a 1/4 to the left and to the right, but not vertically. I did not pay $900 to see bloated psuedo-hd-for-idiots. The shows commonly stretched were not in HD originally, however they could still show them on the HD channel and it would be fine in 4:3 aspect, but no..they have to stretch it because 16:9 is the only gosh darn way to show an HD program and people love it when characters on TV look like Jabba the Hutt. I hear A&E HD is the same way, and their only HD program is CSI Miami which is why they have to freakin show CSI Miami 15 out of 24 hours now to justify having an HD channel. A&E should change their name anyway..theres hardly any program on that network that falls under either Arts or Entertainment.. DID YOU KNOW Many if not most widescreen TVs (yes, HD ones!) come with an option to change the zoom level on the TV so you can have the picture in 4:3 instead of it filling up the whole screen. Obviously this makes the picture a bit smaller, but then you won't have to bitch about "stretchovision". I'm going to go ahead and assume you have this option for your TV and that you're going to be aware of it. You know what happens when you assume! My tv has no zoom feature. I can make the screen 4:3 if its 16:9 and the stretched crap will look fine, but the channel shouldnt send the picture stretched to begin with. Its stupid. We don't have the same TV because mine can zoom.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted February 20, 2007 Well the zoom feature what I was talking about was specifically that: the ability to change it into 4:3. Hell, my Sanyo 30" that I bought from Walmart for $550 (yes it was a widescreen HDTV too, so it wasn't a bad deal at all) had the ability to change from the picture taking up the whole screen (and thus stretching things shot in pan and scan) to 4:3, as well as two zoom levels. Even without the zoom levels (which I don't always like since sometimes you sacrifice things being cut out vertically or horizontally), you can quit yer bitchin and change it to 4:3. The reason why things are going to be sent with the picture stretched, is because it WASN'T SHOT LIKE THAT. Hell widescreen is something that has only taken hold within the last 40-50 years; most Hollywood classics including my favorite film Casablanca were filmed in 4:3 until they started shooting it with different cameras and film. But most TV programs, especially the ones not made for HD channels, and ESPECIALLY non-documentaries, are shot in 4:3, so you get what you get. Watch it in SD if it's a problem for you, or just fix the stupid fucking aspect ratio. Are you that lazy you can't push a button on your remote and instead flail your arms in rabid frustration and confusion because the picture is coming in stretched? Jesus christ. Craig Th 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2007 The zoom feature is nice when I am watching a DVD that isn't anamorphic, like Father of the Bride. That way it will fill the whole screen instead of having it widescreen in 4:3 mode. And it doesn't cut anything off.
