Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2007 What has Phoenix done to prove 1. it's a championship level team or 2. that it's good defensively? Ripper, you dispute that they're bad or even mediocre defensively, so I'm assuming you think they're a good defensive team. What have they done to prove that? I'm not Ripper, but I'm sure he's getting tired of this argument, so I'll give this one a go. 1. They had the best record in the western conference and made the conference finals each of the past two seasons. This year's teams is even better, but unfortunately still trails Dallas by a couple of games. That qualifies them as a championship level team. With a couple of breaks they could have had a championship by now. 2. As I pointed out earlier, they are near the top of the league in defensive efficiency. Defensive efficiency measures how many points you allow per 100 possessions. That's how you measure defensive ability, not by rebounding (which is inversely related to your team's field goal percentage). You are far too caught up with the talking heads version of the Suns. chaosrage 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2007 Oh my fucking god, Steve Nash. What an incredible fourth quarter. I almost turned the game off and went to bed at the beginning of it.
alfdogg 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2007 That was some pretty terrible officiating in the fourth quarter, but the Mavs didn't exactly help their cause with free throw shooting or Josh Howard in general.
Corkscrew_Senton 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2007 I'll certainly give Nash his due, that was a pretty incredible run at the end of regulation.

The Hollinger index has them at 7th defensively. Not at all as bad as I would have thought. Still behind Dallas and San Antonio, and I think that's what the Playoffs should boil down to, how they stack up with those two teams. I'm not interesting in talking heads, I'm interested in what I observe watching games. If anything I'm more hung up on the Playoffs, having watched Parker in '05 and Terry last year average 3 or 4 points higher than their average against Nash. Admittedly my following of the NBA is spotty until after the college season, I'd be lying if I said I didn't base a great deal of my opinion watching them the last two postseasons. Just John 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2007 Great persistence by the Suns. I still think they're the biggest threat to Dallas in the playoffs. Avery's D be damned, Phoenix still scores at will every time they meet.
Fökai 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2007 That was some pretty terrible officiating in the fourth quarter, but the Mavs didn't exactly help their cause with free throw shooting or Josh Howard in general. Don't worry, they just evened it out on Amare's last two "fouls".
naiwf 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2007 Did Steve Nash just win himself another MVP? He was never not going to win it this year. Now the Suns = Retards

alfdogg 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2007 The first one was a foul, the second was questionable, but it was very similar to the one called on Dampier against Barbosa.

Fökai 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2007 The first one was a foul, the second was questionable, but it was very similar to the one called on Dampier against Barbosa. Dampier was trying to get Barbosa off of him, and blindly threw his shoulder into him. Stackhouse ran across the court into Amare's arm. The first foul, you could say it was like Dampier/Barbosa...and even then, it wasn't a push-off by Amare. That second one on Amare, however, was ridiculous. Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2007 Could Nash not win out of the "Jordan didn't win three in a row" principle? It's possible. Dirk seems to have most of the support right now, and he wouldn't be a bad choice, but it only takes about ten seconds of a Suns game to see how incredible Nash is. That team would die without him at the point.
AlwaysPissedOff 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2007 Man, the Mavs were down by 3 with time running down and Terry just pulls up and J's it in Nash's face. Just amazing.

Dirk seems to have most of the support right now, and he wouldn't be a bad choice, but it only takes about ten seconds of a Suns game to see how incredible Nash is. That team would die without him at the point. The NBA would be wise to institute a Player of the Year award in addition to the MVP. The MVP would be given based strictly on value, with the POTY for performance. I mean, LeBron averaging Oscar Roberston numbers last year would have been perfect for that, and Dirk would win it this year.

Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2007 There's no disputing the Suns do very well against most all of the league with their style, but as they are proving right now they're not in league with Dallas or San Antonio.

USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2007 This is purely an observation based on the many games I've seen, but they need to do away with the whole "throw ball at opponent to get the ball to go out of bounds" bullshit.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2007 I noticed they missed 2 free throws in the last minute and Josh Howard decided to be Chris Webber and commit a cardinal no-no in the last 20 seconds by fouling an off balance Nash 25 or so feet from the hoop. The Mavs did their best to give Phoenix the chance to come back in regulation, and paid for it for being 'tards.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2007 Damn enjoyable game although I will say Dallas gave it away with like 6 million dumb plays in a row. Cheech said pretty much everything I wanted to say about what have they done to prove they are a championship caliber team. They have lost some close games in the WCF with key players injured for the last two year. They are the last team in the West to beat this Mavricks team. They are better this year than the last two years. If they aren't championship caliber, i would like to know who is.
Guest Report post Posted March 15, 2007 That's my point. Look at a shot chart if you don't follow what I'm trying to say, then look at one from Charlotte/Sacramento tonight. Night and fucking day. Or look at how Phoenix was up by 16 in the 2nd quarter. Great defense indeed. I've never seen more X's from in the paint than I saw from Dallas tonight. Phoenix is championship caliber though, no doubt. What remains to be seen is if they can get it done in the playoffs, as I've never thought defense wins championships anyway. Fuck, not in paint, that was an accident. NEAR THE PAINT.
