I really like trashy Stones, such as Tattoo You. Quite fond of 'Slipping Away', which is a Keith-sung 80s ballad from Steel Wheels, just incase you aren't Inc or the like. Go figure. Don't like the production on their 'classics' maybe. Still, don't mind them.

 

Also love Ron Wood's cover of Dylan's 'Seven Days'. I love old men who can't sing.

I dig the Stones. Exile and Sticky Fingers are greazy and nasty and awesome. Coincidentally, Matt Young is a dismal cumshot from a homeless man's shriveled, unloved crotch who would fit well as a side 2 afterthought on one of those albums.

 

EDIT: I don't really feel that strongly about Matt, but he seemed like a good whipping boy for the metaphor I wanted to use.

I never liked the song "Angie", though I always thought Goats Head Soup was underrated. Not their best ablum, but still good IMO.

i used to be a big stones supporter, and an ever bigger brian jones advocate. his vast instrumentalism and experimental sense on rudy tuesday, paint it black, and under my thumb make those tracks distinctive. but it was mick taylor and keith richards that made them amazing with sticky fingers-exile on main street-goat heads soup. the latter isn't nearly as bad as people proclaim. its only rock n roll kinda sucked, and ron wood helped pull them together for one un-heralded grasp with black & blue. one of the most underated albums by an immensely popular group ever. forget stones disco, get into stones reggae. they never wanted you to dance dance like they did with black & blue.

My brother told me a story a few weeks ago, which took place in the summer of 2005 when I was living with him (I'd completely forgotten the incident until he regaled me):

 

I was on my computer, he was going through some songs on my Xbox. When he found Gimme Shelter, he paused, looked at me and said "I didn't know you liked that song!" He said that I looked like I wanted to smack him I was so aghast.

 

Tied for my favourite song ever, with Johnny Under by Clarknova.

"I Can't Get No Satisfaction", "Lets Spend The Night Together" and "You Can't Always Get What You Want" are all uniformly terrible, so I can see how a limited sample could skew an opinion on them.

 

I actually enjoy all of these songs immensely now.

The Residents version of "I Can't Get No Satisfaction" is awesome. They make it totally unlistenable. I also prefer Britney Spears' version to the original.

last night i saw a concert film of 'the T.A.M.I. show', this big fest of upcoming 60s music stars all performing on the same night, supposedly the stones' american debut. the stones had to go on after james brown, who just did the show of his life that got the crowd into a frenzy and could not possibly be topped, and the stones had to follow him.

 

and the stones come onstage, and mick jagger is visibly scared shitless. for the first two songs he has this faraway look in his eyes, like "oh, fuck, how do i follow that, what do i do?" and he just sort of mills around looking like a scared puppy, and at a couple of points he tries to dance like james brown, and he fails miserably.
