Fox Cancels Drive

Drive has been impounded.

Multiple sources confirm that Fox has axed the Tim Minear creation after less than three weeks on the air. I'll go out on a limb and say the show's crappy ratings were to blame. House encores will take over its Monday/8 pm timeslot.

There is one piece of good news: I'm hearing the final two unaired Drive eps may get burned off on consecutive Fridays in May

Yeah, 2 left. They filmed 6 to air then it was going to take a break and come back eventually with the last 7 that would make up the first season.

Well wonderful, now I'll never find out if Amy Acker is dead or alive.

Nathan Fillion needs to stay away from television, it's just not working out for him. I mean the guy is great, but series he is on just are never long for this world.

Edited ;)

Tim Minear, also.

Nathan Fillion actually signed a holding deal with fox (similar to the one Stacy Keibler signed with ABC). They agreed for him to star in a pilot and if that didn't work out he'd join an existing Fox programme. He could be on next seasons 24...I'd mark for Jack bauer and Captain Mal on the same show.

But I don't think giving him a supporting role in a show would work, Fillion's a natural leading man IMO.

Although why he would chose to leave his career in hands of fox after how they royally screwed over firefly is beyond me.

I'm pretty sure that for every actor with a holding deal, there are a hundred just looking for work.

Also cancellation comes with the territory. I'm sure actors get emotionally invested into a show, but when it's cancelled, it's probably best to move on and look for the next job.

I understand that tv shows get cancelled, but fox have a reputation for cancelling new shows with an alarming regularity. When I hear of an interesting pilot coming from fox, my first thought is "enjoy it for the 4 weeks it lasts." And I'm surprised Fillion agreed to do a show with Fox after the firefly debacle because he knows better than anyone that they weren't likely to give a new show a chance. And, considering he's done a few high profile projects, I can't imagine he's struggling to find work. He's not A list, but surely he doesn't have to take every offer going.

Cause Fox greenlights projects that require big budgets on the premise that big budget = big ratings. When they don't get the big ratings, then they pull out quickly. That said, DRIVE could have been made for a lot cheaper. A lot of the scenes are in freakin cars for cry out loud, how much could that really cost?

Well it's Fox, so of course they gave it less than 6 weeks before giving it the heave ho. It joins Firefly, Action, Andy Richter Controls the Universe, and John Doe in my "Reasons I'm pissed at Fox" list.

I missed every episode, which was a shame since I wanted to see this. Then again, it was the race across the country part that appealed to me, not whatever lame characters were involved in the race itself. Was the contest and/or cars focused on all that much, or was it more what I'd expect a Fox production to be like and show roughly 30 seconds of automobile per hour long show?

I'm pretty sure that Fox's whole TV strategy was the model for Crash TV.

"Let's make a sitcom about women in prison! Let's try to make a spinoff of Married... with Children featuring characters noone has ever seen before! Apprentice is a hit - let's do one with Richard Branson AND do a parody at the same time! Let's throw tons of money at Chris Carter/James Cameron/Joss Whedon and hope that fanboys will watch our show at 9pm Fridays! Let's try to make Kiefer Sutherland a badass!"

Something like that.

(edit) and fyi, I'm not joking about that first one

No, most of the show was in a car.
