Which skipper gets the boot first? '07 Edition

Manuel and Hargrove, though Hargrove has been human-rain-delaying his demise for a while now.

Probably Manuel, as he's most likely to be let go during the season.

I'd like Gibbons to go. Which is possible. Guillen too, but that's not happening unless he pulls an Imus x1000.

Wedge will have the rest of 2007 if he stays in the hunt, but Buck Showalter is breathing down his neck if they don't make the postseason. I have this as Wedge's last year. He's been there since 2003, I think, and the Tribe will say that they need a new skipper as the last piece of the puzzle as a p.r. move.

To be different, I'll say Clint Hurdle, but that won't happen. So...yeah, Ol' Charlie.

If only. Then follow that up with the Brothers Monfort selling off the team to someone interested in winning... oh, if only...

Acta's fine. I would dare suggest Sam Perlozzo or Ned Yost.

For this season and probably next. After that something tells me with the new stadium, and ownership they'll look for a bigger name.

Joel Skinner, I think.

Looking at Hargrove's stats, I didn't realize how long he's been useless. And he didn't win shit in CLE, anyway.

We play to win championships.

And he lost to the Braves in a World Series. How the fuck do you do that.

I miss Dusty Baker as a manager.

No manager has survived the Cubs since Durocher. Baker, Baylor, Riggleman, Trebelhorn, Zimmer, Frey, Elia, I missed a bunch, they've never gotten a managing job since.

Elia actually managed the Phillies in 1987-88. Here's the list since Durocher.

CASUALTIES (Never Managed Since)

Whitey Lockman

Herman Franks

Joey Amalfitano

Jim Frey

Gene Michael

Frank Lucchesi

Don Zimmer

Joe Altobelli

Jim Essian

Tom Trebelhorn

Jim Riggleman

Rene Lachemann (0-1)

Bruce Kimm

Dusty Baker

Don Baylor

Charlie Fox

Preston Gomez

SURVIVORS (Managed Since)

Jim Lefebvre

Lee Elia

John Vukovich

Jim Lefebvre got to finish the '99 season for Phil Garner in Milwaukee. Lee Elia got the Phillies' job in 1987 and had a .439 win percentage that year. John Vukovich finished out the '88 season for Elia and went 5-4. Real track records there.

I dont see how Perlozzo is doing a horrible job so far given all the injuries and dumb roster moves the front office has made. The roster moves are the dumbest part, handcuffing him a lot..the bench is thin with only having Chris Gomez (who did hit a grand slam the other night..but still) and Fred Bynum off the bench. Great that at least Hernandez should be back sometime soon and they can stop having to use Paul Bako and Alberto Castillo as the starting catchers. Anyway, PA loves Perlozzo and hes great friends with Leo Mazzone. If Perlozzo leaves, Mazzone wouldnt be too far behind..so he'll get a bit more leniency..plus its not like theres anyone out there that could probably do any better.

Oh Marvin, I forgot you had Fast Freddie Bynum on your team. I'm sincerely sorry. We have a way of dumping our garbage on you guys, don't we? I mean, Sosa and Korey, that's one thing, but Bynum?? ooooouch. That's not even a reclamation project. Unless Sam Perlozzo also has a Bakerian affinity for 25th-man utility men who are kinda fast but not good at any actual baseball skills, that guy is gonna be outrighted by the 4th of July.

Al, I didn't know Elia managed again. Hmm. I didn't count Vukovich because he was just an interim for Frey, wasn't he?

Yeah. Vuk was also an interim for Elia in Philly so it all evens out.

Bynums gonna start in CF for Patterson tonight, but they brought up Adam Stern and Jon Knott so he may not start the remainder of the games vs TB.

All I ever hear about it Bynum's speed but the guy couldnt hit a ball in t-ball league, so what the hell does it matter if he has speed?

I wont even get into how much of an unimprovement Adam Stern is over Bynum but he wont be up that long more than likely, since Payton is about a week or so from coming back, Patterson is only on bereavement leave for 3 days and Hernandez is off the DL sometime early this week.

That was a very Weaverian observation, Marvin. Strong work. TEAM SPEED?

I think Yost will be fired this year if the Brewers don't live up to their highest expectations in decades.

I was wondering if someone was going to mention him. I think Yost will make it to the end of the season either way, but he will likely be fired this off-season if the Brewers have another year of sub-.500 ball.
