Possibly a cost cutting measure?

The developmental feds only cost like $1-2 million dollars a year to run.

Every little bit counts. Usually when they start releasing superstars they release guys who are making 100K or less. If those were cost cutting moves then $1-$2 million a year is pretty big in comparison.

Yeah, but DSW is more valuable in the long run than any mid carder. Aside from OVW, where are they going to get talent from now on? Well, at least talent who will wrestle the way they want.

Which guys were actually produced in DSW they actually brought up to WWE?

Mike Knox, Ray Gordy, Derick Neikirk, The Miz, Vladmir Kozlov, MVP, Daniel Rodimer, Nick Mitchell, and Khali all came up from Deep South. Of those, only MVP is the only one to go on to become an event moderately competent wrestler, and I attribute that to osmosis from working with all the talent on Smackdown.

Wasn't Harry Smith down there? I would assume he's not history.

I assume those that signed with WWE will be moved to OVW. Those not under a contract will just stick with DSW but WWE won't send new hires down there.

There's some talk of them using Afa's promotion as a developmental place so if that's true this isn't shocking at all............

They also can't ship all those guys to OVW that would give a developmental fed a Raw sized roster. Some of them may be released but there's alot of people in DSW I would be shocked if they released Angel Williams, Krissy Vaine, Shantelle Taylor, Ryan O'Reilly any of those would shock me.......

If the Afa stuff is true most of them will just get shipped there, if not you'll see some callups, some firings some moves to OVW a big mix, there will probably be some callups anyway.

DSW sucked ass, there's no other conclusion based on the guys who have come out of there. I was shocked that they lasted this long given that they had a struggle to find TV deals and also the training down there has obviously been lacking.

Apparently, this is what happened last night. At 7PM ET, all Deep South talent reported to the building and were addressed by Mike Bucci (Simon Dean) and John Laurinaitis.

The talent was informed that the WWE office was not pleased with the DSW product, and that DSW was hereby closed for good. DSW talent had to assist with the removal of all WWE property from the building. Jody Hamilton allegedly had a verbal exchange with Laurinaitis, and the DSW talent were then told not to step foot in the building again, or they would be immediately fired.

It appears talent will be relocated to Ohio Valley Wrestling or Tampa, FL, the home of the new Florida Championship Wrestling. Right now, nobody has any clue where they are headed or when they are headed there.

Afterwards, Laurinaitis and Bucci supposedly took the talent out to Hooters for drinks.

Former DSW talent Kenny Omega commented on WWE's decision to sever ties with Deep South, "The rumours had always been there. For over two years there was suspicion of DSW shutting down. The system certainly had its flaws but the wrestlers were the ones least at fault. It would be an injustice for those who've endured years of physical/mental punishment to have it stripped away. The athletes there were hard workers and among the toughest I've seen in wrestling."

weird, as I just saw last night on the fight network that they were going to start showing Deep south. I thought WWE wanted to stay away from The Fight network. Maybe that's got something to do with it

I believe road agent Steve Keirn's scool/promotion is the Florida based possibility. Another one being considered is Booker T's school down in Texas. What I'd like to see is a territories system set up where maybe both schools/promotons would be used, along with OVW. Give the kids a chance to get a replicated feel for the old days as so they could better "pay their dues".

Probably a every wrestler that's ever come from there has sucked measure.

M.V.P??

To be fair, MVP wasn't a DSW creation. He's been bouncing around the indy circuit for a couple years before landing in DSW. He was horrid for a period of time until getting to work with talented guys improved him.

Deep South got Deep Sixed.

The last place WWE should be cutting back is in developmental, even as bad as DSW was. It's all well and good if Booker T's small promotion is made a developmental group, but ideally WWE need several of them.. Rotate the good workers who aren't being used, Venis, Conway, etc, in the groups to work with the trainees and teach them things.

Why do WWE need to cut costs? I thought they were turning a profit.

That profit just increased.

One problem that development has had is that the trainers themselves largely weren't anything special when they themselves wrestled. Danny Davis was mostly a midcard guy in Memphis and other indy promotions, not really an amazing wrestler though. Hugh Morrus was mostly crap.

At least with Michaels training people they had one of the top guys in the business showing rookies the ropes (hopefully in the ring and not politically speaking). Ideally they should have technicians like Malenko or Storm as a trainer with someone like Arn Anderson teaching promos and characterization.

Davis's lack of time outside of the South had nothing to do with his ability and everything to do with his size; he was 5'9 and maybe 200lbs, and that meant he wasn't going to get a look up North. Jim Cornette managed Davis as part of a tag team and Cornette has called them the best team he managed that weren't the Midnight Express. Considering Cornette also manged Owen and Davey Boy and The Heavenly Bodies, that's pretty strong praise. Not only that, Davis was a heck of a promo guy, as shown in OVW a few years ago during the two-year storyline of Doug Basham trying to take a piece of the company. Danny Davis is more than qualified to be a trainer of talent.

That's true of pretty much all sports....The best coaches were on the Bench during their playing days...Phil Jackson, Bill Cowher, Tony Dungy, and others like them....The Best players seem to make the most awlful coaches w/ very few exceptions....I can't see the Undertaker training anyone to wrestle or Stone Cold or Triple H....Val Venis and Stevie Richards however are gonna train future Gods of wrestling...
