The OAO Raw 5/7/07 Thread

^^^ I certainly wouldnt mind seeing RVD taking some of his "potato shots" at Vince. What does he have to lose?

Shame Kennedy got hurt. I was really, REALLY looking forward to him possibly cashing in his title shot and winning the gold tomorrow. Heres to a speedy recovery.

Umaga, Vince, and Shane might beat the shit out of him.

Considering that match is now a 3 on 1 handicap match with Umaga and Shane I doubt RVD will even get a shot at Vince aside from Vince pinning him. He should beat the holy hell out of Shane though for stealing the Van Terminator. I really hope they don't do that spot in the match (Shane hitting the Van Terminator on RVD).

Since they are planning to take RVD off TV anyway, what is RVD's incentive to even do this match?

Fuck it.

Put the title on Khali for a couple of months.

Put Edge on Smackdown, put him over Taker and feud with Batista, Benoit, Hardy, and Rey Jr. Have a face Kennedy return at the rumble, win it, and beat Edge at Wrestlemania.

Just do something new.

When did the kip-up become known as a nip-up?

Either referance works.

Kayfabe-wise, this has to be the shittiest time to have the MITB briefcase. Including predicted/announced challengers for JD, your options include 2 guys with just ridiculous power, 1 guy that has held the belt for most of the last 2 years, one guy that nobody's even knocked down yet, one guy that's been buried alive at least twice, and your boss (who comes with his kamikaze son and one of the most dangerous guys on the roster).

Other than the opening segment, which I felt was drawn out way way WAY too long and could have been booked much better, the show was pretty decent tonight. But Michaels could have just been announced at the top of the show taking on Khali - we didnt need stupid exchanges with Vince and HBK to get there (there in itself cuts 5-10 minutes from the segment), and Lashley could have been much more intense and interesting in his role in that segment, not wasting so much time to take out Coach, could have kicked his ass as Vince was right there in the ring still talking (in mid-promo about how Lashley can't do anything and is "humbled" etc), freaked Vince out in the process then (I could just see Vince either running away or cowering near the corner of the ring), thinking Lashley really was going to take him out next, showing Vince a bit vulnerable and Lashley really making a statement versus that long drawn out nonsense they did. Additionally, I'm just waiting for a babyface who gets in the "I cant touch so and so" role to nut up a bit and try to push the HEEL'S buttons, trying to goad them (in this case, Vince, Shane, or Umaga) hit HIM so he can then finally fight back. But rest of the show worked basically. The Carlito segment made sense (sheesh is Torrie either anorexic looking and/or on meth or what?!), as did most else on the show. Michaels/Khali was actually a fun little match and leaves Michaels off the ppv likely, but still strong enough for a rematch with Cena down the road. One other thing though - I didnt get the no-desicion in the last match, Orton should have been put over (at least via countout) but I guess they wanted to clearly make a point with Orton to just publicly state all of the companies issues with him right now via the commentary and Orton's promo earlier in the night, but yet not really put him over, nor bury him either. Seemed like the company is kind of keeping him "safe" or even on "standby" right now considering their limited options with things on top.

Cena's great at these type of deals and with the booking, they'll use all the shortcuts possible to make the match work. It won't be a classic but it'll be a solid entertainment match. A set up between players like these two aren't designed for a chain wrestling session but they'll generate great heat and work off Cena's ability to come up big in these matches.

I hope that the recent run of good matches on Raw, while not as great as those consistently on Smackdown, shows that it has an audience in the ratings. It's about time we get back to 2000-esque match-over-storylines.

Khali is perfectly fine if they keep everything under 10 minutes. Michaels gave him his best match yet, and I expect a good showing at the PPV.

Not to be Mr. anti-Cena here, but Michaels can bump as well and as convincingly as 95% of the roster right now. Cena? Not so much. Plus, a lot of Cena's offence looks weak on normal human beings, so what the hell it's going to look like on Khali I dread to think.

I just hope it doesn't follow the Umaga feud model, with Cena surviving Khali at Judgment Day, only to be forced into some deadly gimmick match at Vengeance.... which I fear would be a certain Prison of Punjabi if you will.
