Definitely didn't expect Superbad to earn that much. A couple weeks ago I didn't even expect it to open at #1. Guess I ate my words. It earned every penny though.

How big of a bomb is The Invasion?

I don't get it. I can't think of many huge box office hits Nichole Kidman starred in, she's had some hits here and there but I don't think anything to warrant her getting paid $15 million a movie.

Well, she does have an Oscar. But I agree that she's doesn't warrant the money she demands. Her last big hit was the others and that was 6 years ago.

Invasion was downright horrible. Quite possibly one of the worst films I've seen in the theatre this year. They changed up the details on how the alien virus came to arrive to the country, etc, so it didnt feel like a complete remake, but it was a really badly disjointed story overall. And this was AFTER the guys who wrote/directed the Matrix series came in to do damage control on the script with rewrites and then they hired a new director to do more filming done earlier this year, after they wrapped up initial filming on this in 2005 actually. I guess it was supposed to be released last summer, intially, but the studio hated it so much they canned it for a bit and then the new players came into the fold to add more things to it, including a 'twist ending' that is anything but that. I cant imagine how horrible it was before they came into the fold if they thought what it ended up being as was actually satisfactory to them.

Only positive on this was seeing Nicole Kidman looking hotter than all fuck in this one and even getting down to her bra and panties in a few parts. But was it worth paying her 17 fucking million for? Of course not. They'll be lucky to even be able to make back her salary here at the box office, as I totally expect a ridiculously huge drop for this next week. Its getting horrible reviews everywhere, check out Rotten Tomatoes to see what I mean.

Oh and I couldnt even get in to see Superbad this weekend. I tried Sat and today and both times I wanted to go were sold out. Yet this same theatre has Bourne still on three screens. Someone has no idea how to run a movie theater here in town.

The Invasion made me angry at Hollywood, and I really disagree with Red Jed's assessment.

I really enjoyed the things that the original director put in the picture- great job of building tension and setting the scene and story. Then the V for Vendetta idiots took over and the film became just another generic summer movie. Really pissed me off, and I would love to see the original cut, since it seems like that would be a great movie rather then the disjointed mess it became. And the twist ending was awful and obvious, as was the stupid ending scene with Jeffrey Wright.

Nicole Kidman looked terrible as usual. Look at her collagen lips and her botoxed face and those tight shirts! Plus, the bra and panties scene is nothing, when she's naked in about half of her movies.

If Warner Bros didn't get the summer tentpole flick they wanted, they should've released it in a February or October and see if they could get an audience, rather then hacking the film to shreds. I'm glad it bombed, they deserved it.

The movie began filming before Craig was even cast as Bond. Think about that

So you disagree with my thoughts on the movie, but sounds like you pretty much echoed my sentiments, other than that you dont like Kidman. Note that I didnt comment that I thought she did a good job in it at all....she didnt. I had no idea what was the original directors stuff and what wasnt, so I couldnt enjoy much of anything because of disjointed mess it was. Everything that had promise in it was tore back down in no time by counteracting BS.

Yeah, the annoucement of Craig in Bond happened as this was being filmed back in 05, apparently.

I also would like to see the original cut, actually. Although it's hard to say if it would have helped - we will probably never know unless we break this piece of shit down scene by scene and determine who did what. Maybe they will release both ala the Exorcist prequal.

I actually just saw Stardust tonight and it was FANTASTIC. The marketing/trailers really did this movie a disservice - i had zero interest in seeing it until my brother wanted to see it.

It was hands down one of the better beginning to end fantasy movies I've seen. Certainly the best one since LOTR ended. Really really good, funny, and imaginative. I remember thinking "this is a really well directed movie - i wonder who did this?" while watching it and was surprised to see Matthew Vaughan directing it.

Plus Robert Deniro as a gay pirate = wow.

It's too damn bad this movie is flopping.

They had Invasion in the Number 1 theater in podunk town I live in, and I stepped out of Superbad for a second to get a refill on my soda, and people where leaving the theater complaining about it, and one guy even tried to get his money back.

I took my Dr. Pepper and returned to laughing in Superbad.

I might have misinterpreted what you said, RedJed. It seems like you didn't like the original scenes, but liked the stuff that the V for Vendetta guys put in the movie.

I think most of the first half of the movie was the original director, and the second half was V for Vendetta.

The car chase,

Craig getting body snatched

, the copout ending, all the flash forward scenes, the first scene, the scene where they watch the news- all point to V for Vendetta.

I heard it being compared to Princess Bride in a quirky comedy fantasy sense. Is that accurate?

V For Vendetta was an excellent movie. Not sure why the Wachowskis would be involved in a remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers though. I have to admit it surprises me that people actually would walk out on it though. It looks like a rental, but nothing so terrible that anyone should storm out of a theater.

I couldn't imagine walking out of a theater. I spent $7 and I'm not throwing it down the drain by walking out, god dammit!

The only times I've come close to walking out on a movie were Final Fantasy and Joe Somebody (a forgettable Tim Allen movie from five or six years back where literally almost nothing happened for the entire movie.)

I'm not trashing V for Vendetta (though I thought the movie was just alright), I'm trashing the changes the guy made to the movie. They basically completely changed the tone of the movie and added in annoying flash forwards. Plus, they kind of ripped off Pulp Fiction

The Last Legion and 7 Dias (Claudio Caballero decides to gamble $500,000 dollars in a desperate attempt to raise the cash necessary to bring the world's biggest band (U2) to Mexico.) were very close to joining the sub $1,000 PSA club but according to estimates both made about $1200.

As sad as it may sound, I don't think any of Nichole Kidman's movies have done $67 million on opening weekend like Rush Hour 2 did. I don't think he deserves $15-20 million a movie but neither does Nichole Kidman. In fact, I could probably list on one hand people who I think deserve that much per movie.

Nicole Kidman does not deserve a 15-20 million per picture. It's hard to measure Chris Tucker's box office drawing, since all he's done is the Rush Hour movies.

Kidman's a big name who will get people talking about a film, but look at her recent efforts:

The Invasion (bombed)

Bewitched (big disappointment)

Interpreter (mild hit)

Stepford Wives (bomb)

Cold Mountain (box office hit)

Her Oscar bait movies (Fur, Birth, Dogville, Human Stain) all tanked.

Her peak was in 1999-2002, when everyone felt sorry for her getting fucked over in the Tom Cruise divorce and she had Moulin Rouge, The Hours and Others.

I think Tucker deserves 20 million per Rush Hour movie. Thats about it, but for this franchise, if its going to make 250 million per film world wide, then hells yeah, give the man his 20 mil.

Here's the Forbes list of best and worst investments in Hollywood (ever dollar they're paid to how much the film takes in).

1 Matt Damon, $1 = $29 return

2 Brad Pitt, $24

3= Vince Vaughn, $21

3= Johnny Depp, $21

5 Jennifer Aniston, $17

6 Angelina Jolie, $15

7 Renée Zellweger, $ 14

8= Reese Witherspoon, $13

8= Ben Stiller, $13

8= Sandra Bullock, $13

11 Tom Hanks, $12

12= Leonardo DiCaprio, $11

12= Tom Cruise, $11

14= Will Smith, $10

14= Denzel Washington, $10

16= Cameron Diaz, $9

16= Adam Sandler, $9

18= Will Ferrell, $8

18= Jim Carrey, $8

18= Nicole Kidman, $8

21. Jennifer Lopez, $7

22. Russell Crowe, $5

To be honest, if I was a successful actor, I might take the Matt Damon approach and not ask that much for movie roles. For one thing, it's a lot less pressure. If the film flops it's not that big a deal since it didn't have your huge fee to inflate the budget. And I'm sure you can still live a lavish life earning 7 or 8 million a movie.

I'm a bit shocked at Will Ferrell being so low. His movies usually make a fortune. He must ask for a lot if, after hundreds of millions of dollars, he's still a poor investment.

Craig should stick to just doing Bond films rather than bomb films.
