Guest Soriano's Torn Quad Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Why is Jose Contreras still in the starting rotation instead of Nick Masset? I don't get it. The guy is old and it shows.
Bored Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Brandon Webb only extends his scoreless inning streak by 1/3 of an inning as a Prince Fielder RBI single in the 1st ends at 42 1/3 innings. Another note on the Texas game, Wes Littleton picked up a save. Yes in a 27 run win someone got a save. He pitched the last three innings so by rule he gets a save even though it was already a 14-3 game at that point.
Brett Favre Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Those 27 run leads are tough for closers who are used to 1 run saves.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 The drama in the 2nd game is whether or not Millar will get on base to tie the Orioles record for consecutive games on base at 49.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Why is Jose Contreras still in the starting rotation instead of Nick Masset? I don't get it. The guy is old and it shows. I'd assume because they paid him all that money to be their starter.
Guest Soriano's Torn Quad Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 It's a sunk cost, though. You're paying him no matter what he does. It's not like you get more bang for your buck if you trot him out there to get smacked around. Just demote him to mop-up and see if Masset can make multiple starts.
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 As I watch the Yanks and Angels, I ponder Vlad Guerrero: Hall of Famer? Age: 31 (I thought he was older than this) ML Seasons: 12 Career Home Runs: 357 30 + HR Seasons: 8 (2 of 40+) 100 + RBI Seasons: 9 Career Average: .324 All Star Games: 8 (4 NL, 4 AL) 2004 American League MVP He has no Gold Glove awards but is generally regarded as an above average outfielder with a very good - great throwing arm. As of right now, 500 homers seems like a lock and his career average is currently 4th among active players. I am also not getting into niche statistics like OPS and other various things (like when I asked a while ago if Chipper Jones would make it) because we all know that the general voters of the BWAAA do not know them, or don't consider them. I'd say right now he will be in, as I said already he should smash 500 homers, he already has an MVP award, and winning a World Series, as always, would put him over the top. He has been one of the very best players in the game this decade.

Hey I advocated getting rid of him only to be told he has a clause in his contract making him hard to get rid of.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 I saw on ATH that the "experts" think that the Angels are the best team in the AL just because they whupped the Yankees the other night. I think they're in the top 4-5, but #1? No.
Brett Favre Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 As I watch the Yanks and Angels, I ponder Vlad Guerrero: Hall of Famer? I think he's a lock at this pace.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 os are winning 7-6 in the 2nd game and Millar got on base to get to 49 games.

He has been one of the very best players in the game this decade. If he were to retire tomorrow (freak injury, family problem, whatever), he'd get in. He's a lock, the rest of what he's doing is just resume padding. One of my favorite players, even though he plays for the team I hate the most.
At Home Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Vlad is one of my favorite players. He's had a great season this year. He threw a guy out at first base from way back in right field one time. It was intense.
Bruiser Chong Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Hey, since when does pbone watch baseball?
Guest Soriano's Torn Quad Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Ever since he started smoking pot smoking pot smoking pot smoking pot. In Central Daylight Time, the Cubs beat the Giants 4-2 at the stroke of midnight. Right as the throw to first was completed, the top-of-the-hour tone hit on the radio. Good thing they made the play when they did, or else Ryan Dempster was going to turn back into a pumpkin.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 I wonder if Al saw that game or if hes going to the 2nd? I was indeed at that game live. F'n unreal. Orioles fans were actually cheering at the sheer novelty by the end of the game. They figured if they scored 27, they might as well go ahead and score 30. We stayed through three innings of game two, at which point we took off for home. I got home just 15 minutes ago (it's 2:25am now). It was nice to see former Red Baron Marlon Byrd hit a grand slam. For the record, this was the greatest blowout in modern baseball history. It was my first trip to Camden Yards, and I saw history. The park definitely lived up to expectations.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Two final points about that game. 1. It got out of hand because Dave Trembley was saving his relievers for game two, not wanting to use his best options in a blowout game. No one was even warming up in the ninth inning. 2. Not only do I have the ticket to that game, it's autographed by O's legend Boog Powell.
At Home Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Hey, since when does pbone watch baseball? I've been an angels fan from when they sucked; the Tim Salmon days. I was at Game 7 of when they won the world series. Oh, I was also at the infamous game right before the strike. People threw shit all over the field, dumped trash, threw foul balls back, yelled and booed. It was like the whole stadium was angry and drunk. Even the announcer was trying to plead with the fans; the strike was supposed to take place right before the post-season, and we were tied with the mariners for first place, so if we stalled the game too long we forfeit, therefore killing our chances at post-season. The announcer guy kept saying "Hey, hey, you guys. Listen to me. LISTEN TO ME." Then someone threw a beer bottle onto the field and it shattered and he came back on saying "YOU'RE NOT LISTENING TO ME. DON'T STALL THE GAME OR WE FORFEIT."
Open the Muggy Gate Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 You are so fucking lucky al.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Some more fun stuff from yesterday's game. * Brian Burres' ERA rose from 4.45 to 5.24 * Rob Bell's ERA rose from 4.18 to 6.14. * Paul Shuey's ERA rose from 6.75 to 9.49! *David Murphy added 81 points to his career batting average.
Danville_Wrestling Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 I was just relieved yesterday that the Reds bullpen was able to go four innings without surrendering any runs to Atlanta in the 4-2 win. Only 9 1/2 back baby!
Cheech Tremendous Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Some more fun stuff from yesterday's game. * Brian Burres' ERA rose from 4.45 to 5.24 * Rob Bell's ERA rose from 4.18 to 6.14. * Paul Shuey's ERA rose from 6.75 to 9.49! *David Murphy added 81 points to his career batting average. Also, Wes Littleton "earned" a save in last night's 30-3 blowout.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Littleton getting a save was a little silly, but at least he did pitch well in the game. He pitched three scoreless innings, only running into any scoring threat in the eighth.
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Albert Pujols is the first player in history to hit 30 or more homers in his first 7 seasons.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Albert Pujols is the first player in history to hit 30 or more homers in his first 7 seasons. It sounds impressive but it's mostly because Pujols got to play a full season his first year, without getting a cup of coffee first.
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Also, I found out that I am older than 6 major league players this year. This trend is only going to increase for the rest of my life.
Bruiser Chong Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Craig Monroe to the Cubs. Just trade Murton. He may never pan out to be the guy some pegged him to become, but at least give him a chance to fail on a full-time basis.
vivalaultra Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 David Wells has found a home with the Dodgers. He'll certainly be better than Brett Tomko, I think.
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 The Yankees and AA Trenton Thunder may be severing their ties.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 The Yankees and AA Trenton Thunder may be severing their ties. Won't they have to wait until after 2008? That's a shame as Trenton is quite a nice park. I'm betting the Yankees want to aim for one of the Connecticut teams in the Eastern League. Trenton is only 15-20 miles from Philadelphia and it's not quite a Yankees' hotbed. I can't see who would want Trenton right off. Baltimore has Bowie, Washington has Harrisburg and the Phils have Reading. Maybe the Mets will leave Binghamton behind.
