WWE General Discussion - September 2007

Recommended Posts

Don't they have this unofficial house show title changes during the international tours on a somewhat regular basis? This isn't mentioned on WWE.Com, so I'd assume it is the house show special.

Speaking of WWE.com, they compare Cena to Sprewell and Bob Knight.

It's through Gerweck, so take with the usual pinch of salt:

I just saw the promo for Cyber Sunday and two matches where shown. John Cena Vs. Randy Orton for the WWE title and the choices are: Falls count anywhere, Lumberjack and Hell in a Cell . For Smackdown, in a fatal four way it will be Batista vs. Taker vs. Mark Henry vs The Great Khalil and the choices for a special guest ref are: Stone Cold, Mick Foley and Roddy Roddy Piper.

Why, none of those men appear to be Rey Mysterio at all.

Which seems to indicate that Rey was indeed put in the Unforgiven match to take the fall so the Batista/Khali feud can keep going. If the four-way match is accurate, and Undertaker is still set to get the Smackdown title at Survivor Series, the finish seems likely to get up that match, possibly Taker tombstones Henry but Khali takes Undertaker out and steals the pin.

I'd like for once they actually include another "legend" instead of the usual triumvirate of Foley, Austin and Piper. They really should scrap this as a PPV and build it as a TV Special, as it was suggested and considered not so long ago. It is an idea that translates better for TV anyways since in theory, shouldn't the viewer be weary of buying a show without an idea of what will occur although these shows are typically suggestively rigged.

Cyber Sunday is after No Mercy though, correct? I'm wondering if Batista will find his way into some sort of title match on that show too.

Yes, CS is after NM. For No Mercy, if Khali pins Rey at Unforgiven then it's seems a given that Khali and Batista come back to be the Smackdown main event. It's a 'B' show, so we'll probably see a non-finish of some kind to set up the four-way at Cyber Sunday. It'll more likely be a non-finish if the main event is Orton over Cena in some fashion, because they'll be ending the PPV with a finish and can afford the non-finish in the secondary main event.

MAJOR BACKSTAGE HEAT ON AUSTIN FOR PRE-SUMMERSLAM SPEECH

WWE got all of the talent together before Summerslam so that Stone Cold Steve Austin could talk to them for a few moments. The speech was meant to be inspirational, but it ended up rubbing a ton of people the wrong way and helped to lower an already low morale within the locker room.

Austin's speech contained three main points, all of which made people upset.

His first point was he felt that the wrestlers dressed like slobs outside the ring. He criticized everyone for not looking and carrying themself anywhere close to professional. A lot of people couldn't believe who they were hearing this from. It was unbelievable considering that during the height of Austin's worldwide superstardom in the late-90s all anyone ever saw Austin in publicly was a black t-shirt and either blue jeans or blue jean shorts. Also, when WWE began their new dress code in 2004, Austin was doing his co-GM/Sheriff gimmick on Raw. He was one of the few who was exempt from the suit-and-tie dress code for gimmick purposes (the only others were The Undertaker and John Cena).

His second point was that he felt WWE had no real superstars whatsoever and that it's time for someone to step up to take the ball and run with it. This also had a lot of people scratching their head, since both John Cena and Edge were members of the wrestler audience.

His third point was that no wrestler should be sitting back and waiting for the bookers to give them a gimmick that will make them successful. Austin told the story about how he was "The Ringmaster" when he started with WWE in 1995 and how he thought it sucked so a few months later, he came up with his own gimmick, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. This one had a lot of people silently laughing since it's a well-known fact that Austin's wife at the time that actually came up with the name.

One wrestler in the audience noted that Austin seemed very out of touch with the current conditions and with how much money the wrestlers make now. He was said to constantly use phrases like, "With as much money as you guys make..." This wasn't very receptive since almost half of the locker room barely makes six figures now, as oppposed to the Attitude Era when lower mid-card people like Test and Al Snow were making well over a quarter million.

A few wrestlers said that they were shocked at how Austin is now seemingly a puppet for McMahon, as some felt these were McMahon's words coming out of Austin's mouth. There was speculation among the locker room that Austin was acting this way because he is not dealing well with the fact that his movie "The Condemned" was a huge bomb in theatres.

I kinda agree with Austin here but then again how often are you allowed to propose something to the heads and hope they approve or don't punish you for trying to change your gimmick?

# The current plan calls for CM Punk to hold the ECW title until John Morrison’s suspension is over. Upon Morrison’s return, he will defeat Punk to recapture the ECW title.

# The official theme song for this year’s Unforgiven PPV is “Rise Today” by AlterBridge.

# The Internet pre-sale for WWE No Mercy is going on right now. The pre-sale password is WWEMERCY, not WWENOMERCY. Sorry for the mistake yesterday.

# Matt Sydal will be reporting to WWE’s Ohio Valley Wrestling once he completes his independent bookings. Officials expect him to join the developmental territory at the end of September.

So Punk gets the belt for a month, then quickly jobs it back to Morrison. Maybe THAT'S why people were/are upset with Punk getting the title now because everyone figured it'd be a hot-shot deal that meant nothing...

Good. I like Morrison with the belt better.

So his wife created the "Gimmick" or the name "Stone Cold"?

Austin seems dead on except the dress code thing. That is

just odd all together.

Hey Steve...how bout you put someone over.

Acting might not be the one for you, suck it up

and see if you can still draw in wrasslin.

I think that's why a lot of people thought Austin was out of touch. You're not really encouraged to come up with your own stuff anymore.

That shit with Morrison getting the belt right away after he comes back is such BS. Did they ever have any plan to actually give Punk the belt pre-suspension then is the question. That is just so wrong on so many levels, the main being of course to just throw the dude the belt back when he decieved the company with the roid issue.

Judging by the reaction and special feel that match had last night, one has to think they may reconsider this line of thinking. As much as I'm "meh" about the guy, Punk is way over right now and they need to ride this wave with him as champion until that changes. Its hoping for a miracle, but if the ECW rating jumps the next 3-4 weeks, we may get a longer Punk reign.

They would have to be beyond any level of retarded to put the belt back on Morrison. The guy was a wildly failed experiment, should have never gotten it to begin with, and his own 15 minutes of fame are over. Seriously if they just job Punk right back to him it's idiotic on so many levels. The roid issue is one thing, but how about the fact that Punk is actually over with the crowd and Morrison has heard nothing but crickets?

So unless I missed it, is Marcus Cor Von back yet?

No, not yet.

If Morrison does get the belt back, after a week or so after he comes back, it's just a way to keep building a title feud between the two. I don't think it's one of those "Well the champion is in trouble, lets do a title switch for now then put it back on him when he returns." kind of deal. It's very obvious that Morrison and Punk can have awesome matches and work very well with each other, plus the booking pretty much writes itself, so why not continue the feud?

Honestly, I think the feud should end after last night. Switching it back and forth between them isn't necessary - it will hurt both guys probably more than anything. Punk chased the belt (quite a good while may I add) and having him drop it back to Morrison would just "depress" the program down to square one again. Now if they want to do another Morrison-Punk match, by all means, go for it, just put Punk over again, as Morrison really needs time away from the main event to get his gimmick more over and refined. It's time for both guys to move on to two different programs - Punk could work a program with Cor Von when he returns, and Morrison could move on to who knows who. They got a month to figure that part out.

Well when the rematch happens, and by all means it should happen, Morrison shouldn't get the belt back that match. He should loose, then pull the heelish dick thing with the GM and get yet another rematch, winning the title back in a dirty fashion thus giving the feud more fire to keep it going strong.

I'm pretty sure there are a good portion of Punk haters on the board already. Quite a few have been vocal since he was signed in the first place. I like the guy and started watching him in probably 2004, it's cool to see him continue to improve and rise up the ranks.

Ok I understand beating a guy over the head when he's being a hypocritic shit, but lets not go over board here.

Austin had developed the cold serial killer persona but just didn't have a name for it when his wife told him to eat his dinner before it got Stone Cold so claiming she came up with it is really not right.

Also Austin would NEVER be allowed to go out and cut the promos that got him over in this day and age, hell one of the guys who was able to get over on the strength of his mike work (Cena) has been made into a god-awful Rock & Austin mash up buy the people responsible for the writing.

The name. I believe Austin came up with the gimmick himself after watching a programme about a serial killer.

Honestly, I think the only reason Vince is hesitant to push Punk over Morrison is because Punk doesn't have "the look" that Vince likes. And I've read before that Vince doesn't get the whole straight-edge gimmick either.

Foley and Austin's books cover this. Austin came up with the gimmick - he told WWF creative about it and how he wanted to be "cold-blooded" and have aname that sutied this. Apparently they came up with "Chilly McFreeze". Then Austin's wife (the British one before Debra I think - Jenny something?) says one day that her tea had gone "stone cold" and voila.

Who was the last person Austin put over anyway?
