Guest Report post Posted September 11, 2007 Smith's reads are poor and it's really hurting the 49ers offense. And the Cards blitz is strong.
Bored 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2007 For those complaining about the match-up, again remember MNF doesn't mean shit anymore. It's Sunday Night Football on Monday's plain and simple. And that was terrible personal foul call on the face mask. That could end up being a killer since the 49ers offense can't move the ball at all.

KingPK 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2007 The New England Patriots: America's Team. NFL security confiscated a video camera and its tape from a New England Patriots employee on the team's sideline during Sunday's game against the Jets in a suspected spying incident, sources said. The camera and its tape were placed in a sealed box and forwarded to the league office for investigation, the sources said. "We don't have any comment," an NFL spokesman said Monday. The Patriots' cameraman was suspected of aiming his camera at the Jets' defensive coaches who were sending signals to their unit on the field, the sources said. The league also is investigating some radio frequency issues that occurred during the game. The league's competition committee could conduct a conference call about the incident, which violates NFL policy, and ultimately recommend a penalty that could cost the Patriots a future draft pick or picks if it verifies that the team was spying on the Jets. "It's not their first time," a member of the committee, who did not wish to be identified, said. In fact, Green Bay Packers president Bob Harlan confirmed a similar incident that occurred when the Patriots played at Lambeau Field last Nov. 19. The same cameraman who was questioned by NFL security on Sunday was also the one whom the Packers removed from the sideline and escorted from the field during their 2006 game, according to Packers security official Doug Collins. "From what I can remember, he had quite a fit when we took him out," Harlan said. "We had gotten word before the game that they [the Patriots] did this sort of thing, so we were looking for it." A Jets official declined comment Monday, directing an inquiry to the league office. The Patriots also did not have immediate comment. If this is true, New England deserves to lose a draft pick or be fined heavily. BUT, if the Jets were too dumb not to mix in false signals like they do in college and in baseball, then they brought it on themselves. Why do you think pitchers and catchers cover their mouths with their gloves during meetings and catchers change signals when a runner is on 2nd? EVERYONE tries to steal signs/signals/plays in pro sports, I really doubt anyone would say otherwise. This isn't some unprecidented ploy by the Evil Genius to put another one over on the league like some people seem to think it is.
Cartman 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2007 Exactly. There really is no real competitive advantage to this either because like was said above, teams mix in different signals so it isn't possible to read them. There has to be some other explanation or reason for this camerawork on the sidelines.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2007 Not everyone uses a camera man to record opposing coaches during a game and get the signal up to the offensive coordinator. That is not the same thing as paying attention and trying to decipher signals. It is a pretty big deal. Don't act like this is common. Its classless honestly. There is no real competitve advantage? Are you kidding? This isn't baseball. Football doesn't go switching up signals every couple of minutes. you would have to manage to convey this signal change to roughly 22 different players (not all teams just get them in to one player and call the play. If you look at some defensive huddles, DB's will get their signals one place and in some cases all three levels will get their own signals. If you don't think there is a competitive advantage, then why do you think they would do it? it wouldn't take long to start deciphering the blitz signals through those long complicated calls to the field. That is all you really need. And thats what teams cover up when they add bullshit at the start and the finish of those signals, because the likelihood that a person, across the field would be able to figure that out, ingame is slim. A person with a camera recording all of their signals could figure it out pretty easily.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted September 11, 2007 Personally, I still think Houston made the right decision. They went for need over hype, and although Bush is a good player, he's still not much more than a third down back on a hell of an offense. Mario Williams has played pretty well for the Texans, and I'd prefer a few solid years out of the guy rather than the gamble taking Reggie Bush might've been. Well, I'm just saying, in comparison to your traditional LaDainian Tomlinson outing, he was quite contained. It's not often he doesn't break 80 yards, and the Bears defense should be commended for that. He still accounted for winning the game, since both of his touchdowns were the difference in a 14-3 game. And I actually posted that picture because I liked the visual of him flying out of the tunnel with the American flag more, but yeah. Chicago's defense outperformed San Diego in every ways except for keeping him out of the endzone, I'll commend them for that. Oh wait, it's points that win a football game, not yards, right? Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2007 FOXBORO - The Patriots [team stats] were caught illegally filming the Jets’ defensive signals Sunday - for at least the fourth time in the past year - and could lose a draft pick as a result, a league source said yesterday. The Pats have a reputation throughout the league for such chicanery, noted former competition committee member Charley Casserly, who first broke the story of the Pats stealing signs last year for CBS. But not until the Jets confiscated a camera and sent it to the league offices following Sunday’s game -which Belichick admitted being aware of during his weekly visit to WEEI - did rival clubs break their silence. According to league sources, the Packers and Lions also nabbed the Patriots filming their defensive signals, while the Bills suspected it and now are reviewing last year’s game tapes. Casserly’s report dealt with either the Jets, Bills, Broncos or Bengals. “There’s a league-wide perception that this is something they do,” one rival executive noted. In each instance, the pattern appears to be the same. A Patriots employee with a team-issued credential records opposing coaches signaling the defensive plays. It’s unclear what the Pats do with the information, though sources in Green Bay believed the cameraman was relaying information to the Patriots bench via hand signals. Earlier this summer, a league spokesman said all 32 teams received a reminder that it is illegal to videotape opposing signals, adding that cameras can’t be used on the sidelines, in the booth, or in the locker room during a game. According to an ESPN report, the eight-man competition committee could investigate. Among its members are Titans coach Jeff Fisher and Colts president Bill Polian, who have clashed with the Pats in the past, as well as Lions general manager Matt Millen, whose team believes it caught the Pats doing the same thing last December. Among the possible punishments would be for the Pats to lose a draft pick. For a window into the Patriots’ tactics, multiple Packers sources provided a fascinating account of what happened in the 35-0 victory last Nov. 19. A man identifying himself as a Patriots employee asked a security guard if he could shoot footage of Lambeau Field before the game, and permission was granted. Just before the game, he requested to stay on the sidelines to record quarterback Tom Brady [stats] for the coaching staff. However, he was soon spotted filming the Packers defense and signaling Patriots coaches. A member of the Packers security staff witnessed the exchange and asked him to leave. He retreated to the tunnel, continued filming, and appeared to be communicating with the coaches via hand signals before being escorted off the field. Asked why the Patriots weren’t reported, a Packers executive suggested there was a code of silence regarding such matters, particularly after a blowout. “It bothers you that it’s cheating,” he said, “but it’s not the reason they kicked our (BUTT).” It’s interesting to note a pair of comments after that game. The first came from Packers corner Al Harris, who praised the Patriots coaching staff. “It’s almost like they knew what we were doing, you know?” he said. “You have to tip your hat to them. They ran plays designed for us. They ran plays that made us check out of some things. I don’t know who calls their plays, but Belichick is pretty good. Honestly, he’s pretty good. Following the season, Belichick conducted an interview with the Globe and singled out the Packers game as a turning point, coming on the heels of consecutive losses to the Jets and Colts. “I think things could have unraveled a little bit,” he said. “It’s a point around midseason and that was a big game to rein things back in. I think it showed the team what we could do.”

Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2007 Sources: Goodell determines Pats broke rules by taping Jets' signals By Chris Mortensen ESPN.com (Archive) Updated: September 11, 2007, 5:44 PM ET NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has determined that the New England Patriots violated league rules Sunday when they videotaped defensive signals by the New York Jets' coaches, league sources have told ESPN's Chris Mortensen. NFL security officials confiscated a camera and videotape from Patriots video assistant Matt Estrella on the New England sidelines when it was suspected he was recording the Jets' defensive signals. Sources say the visual evidence confirmed the suspicion. Goodell is considering severe sanctions, including the possibility of docking the Patriots "multiple draft picks" because it is the competitive violation in the wake of a stern warning to all teams since he became commissioner, the sources said. The Patriots have been suspected in previous incidents. The Patriots will be allowed an opportunity to present their case by Friday, sources said, most likely via the telephone. The league also was reviewing a possible violation into the number of radio frequencies the Patriots were using during Sunday's game, sources said. The team did not have a satisfactory explanation when asked about possible irregularities in its communication setup during the game. Goodell is expected to have a decision no later than Friday but that is not set in stone. The league refused comment but did confirm Monday that they were reviewing a possible violation by the Patriots. Chris Mortensen covers the NFL for ESPN. Ripper 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2007 I personally think a 4 game suspension for everyone involved on the coaching staff is in order. When I said Draft picks, I forgot this was the patriots. losing the 30th pick in the draft isn't exactly that much of a punishment. It just saves cap space.
