Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2007 I am a little shocked to see Balls of Fury making money, I've heard nothing but awful things about it. Bummer about Shoot Em Up and Death Sentence not doing so well. Haven't seen them, but I plan to this week. And it's looking like Nanny Diaries is eating it a little. That can't be a good number being that Johansen is supposed to be a big deal these days
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2007 Scarlett, for all the hype she gets is not a big box office draw. Nanny Diaries, Scoop, The Island, A Love Song For Bobby Long have all done sub-par numbers. In fact, can anybody name a Scar-Jo movie that actually did well? Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2007 She's 4th billed in The Prestige...does that count?
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2007 Lost in Translation? Reviews-wise, obviously. But did LIT actually make decent money?

AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2007 what the hell is Halloween doing still on there? It made 44 million?!
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2007 The Brothers Solomon joins the sub-$1,000 club making $525,000 for a pathetic per-screen average of $750. It also becomes the third sub-$1,000 movie that I've seen in theatres. Scarlett Johansson is a hot name in the media, but I'll look at her movies post-Lost: Nanny Diaries will probably finish with around 30 million. It was supposed to be released in the spring, but they moved it to the fall to play the Venice Film Festival, but then dumped it in the end of August because it sucked. I don't think she had much to do with the Prestige's 53 million. She was basically a supporting player, and the movie was more about Bale v. Jackman, the concept and director Christopher Nolan. Black Dahlia tanked. Scoop was a Woody Allen movie, and if his movies don't get great reviews, which Scoop didn't, they don't go anywhere. I'd say Match Point racking up 23 mil on only 500 screens is a success, though that was more about the reviews and the Woody Allen name. Scarlett deserves some credit. The Island tanked. In Good Company was another movie where she really had third billing behind Dennis Quaid and Topher Grace. 45 million on less then 2,000 screens is impressive. Perfect Score was a Janaury dump that really had nothing to do with her.
HollywoodSpikeJenkins 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2007 Don't forget "Girl with a Pearl Earing" which got great reviews. Not sure how it did in the box office. Lets also not forget "Home Alone 3"
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2007 I only wanted to focus on movies that came out post-Lost. Also, Shoot 'Em Up bombing is another sign that adrenaline simple plot action movies just don't do well. Shame, since I love those movies
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2007 not to mention that Clive Owen is the man...I'd better see it before it's gone
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2007 The Island actually did make about 163 million worldwide, but the budget was 126 so unless it did massive DVD business then it probably lost money.

bob_barron 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2007 It came out about the same time as Lost in Translation. Shoot 'Em Up is just supposed to be the most over the top action movie ever, which of course will be seen as a parody.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2007 If they purposely tried to go over the top to reflect other action films, it is a parody.

Ripper 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2007 14 mil was the top spot? Goddamn. Did college football kill the box office? I mean alot of MAN MOVIES came out this weekend and maybe thats why they didn't make money.

RedJed 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2007 Damn, that is right about Bourne, that film has some of the strongest sustainability I've seen in a good while - it came out in early July, IIRC, and its still in the top 5. Not too shabby, although competition this time of year is few and far between. But still, just as impressive. 310 to Yuma I saw on Sat night, definately highly recommended. The character development in this film is ridiculously great, and it has a tremendous flow and feel to it. One of a very few western-type films I have actually completely enjoyed. The per-screen average for that film is pretty high there. I would expect a more substantial release of it next week possibly. It should get a great amount of word of mouth. Brothers Solomon REALLY bombed badly - wow. Didnt think it looked that bad from the previews, but the star power just isnt there, although it seemed like they put a decent amount of advertising behind it. Bummed about Shoot Em Up, going to see that before it probably leaves by next Friday.
haws bah gawd 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2007 310 to Yuma definitely looks interesting. I may have to give it a watch, and I'm not even a fan of westerns. I'm also glad beyond words that The Brothers Solomon tanked. Looked like a streaming pile to me. I honestly can't believe how well Transformers has done. I figured it would take, but 300+ Million is nothing to sneeze at.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2007 Wow, I can't remember the last time a Western got the number one spot at the box office. Unforgiven? Glad to see Shoot 'Em Up tanked. I like Clive Owen, but that movie sucked. I'm just wating to go see the Jodie Foster Punisher movie. Jodie Foster's gangsta!

LivingLegendGaryColeman 0 Report post Posted September 12, 2007 I'm just wating to go see the Jodie Foster Punisher movie. Jodie Foster's gangsta! Yeah, I've been pretty indifferent to the previews for that movie, but the other day there was one that showed Jodie Foster getting weapons together while DMX's "X Gonna Give It To You" was playing in the background... I laughed.

bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2007 I saw 3:10 to Yuma. It was quite good. Christian Bale is a great fuckin actor. Great job all around. Russell Crowe was good also, though a little too "charming badass anti-hero" cliche.
