CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 After seeing Myers tonight, I wouldn't be surprised to see footage of him ripping his shirt off and flexing like a maniac in the Phillies locker room a la Danny Jackson. He certainly seems like the type.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 "Whoosh." Hey, great contribution to the thread! ____________ FIRST PLACE BABY! How the Mets get 3 hits is just pathetic. Man, I hope the Nats are ready, because the Phils are playing inspired baseball and I think the division is ours. Kyle Kendrick, if he played a full season, could easily get a ton of ROTY votes, methinks. Even for a pitcher.

devo 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 Okay. One hundred and fifty-nine games and we're no closer to deciding a division winner. The entire season comes down to the next three days. Might as well forget everything that's happened, 'cause it doesn't matter anymore. I'm hoping the Metropolitans can adopt that attitude and save their year. Let's go Mets!
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 The MLB.com and TSM Mets fans all show signs of grieving: "This isn't happening. Come on, Phils are 4 games back, they're not catching the Mets ..." - DENIAL "WTF?!?!? COACH YOUR TEAM WILLIE! Ugh! Another shitty performance by Wagner!" - ANGER "You know what? If they don't make the playoffs at least Willie gets fired!" - BARGAINING "Fuck this. Let the team go down. This is ridiculous." - DEPRESSION And devo comes with the latest: "Might as well forget everything that's happened, 'cause it doesn't matter anymore." - ACCEPTANCE We'll never forget those Mets that we grieve for. Our feelings may be tempered more with good memories than sadness as time passes, but that isn't to say that waves of raw emotion won't overcome us way after we thing we should be done. I think the trick here is to understand that the feelings will occur, try to keep them in perspective, try to understand why you feel a certain way, and if there are any unresolved issues that cause particular emotional pain, forgive yourself and others and if necessary talk with someone about it. There is no completion date to grieving...let your emotions flow through the stages of grief. Mr. Met loves you!

the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 As great as this is to see, I can't believe I am actually seeing a Philly fan looking like he is counting his chickens. Man, UTSU haven't you learned by now to be excited but wait til the last out of the last game before crowing. Question for al: Phillies, if they win the division, worst division winning pitching staff (inc. bullpen) ever?
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 This is a different team. Even if they lose, the fan reaction won't be "DAMN THEM!", it's "I FEEL BAD FOR THEM". That shows that this team is a lot more deep and actually cares, IMO, and separates them from the heartless bums that played here in the past. This team is now completely void of heartless no-talents, except for occassional appearences by Alfonseca, Davis, Mesa, Helms and Barajas, and has a never-say die attitude, plus a lot more developed talent than previous years. Perhaps I'm just popping for Myers, who I've hated, showing some positive emotion and doing a very "Batista-like" dance after his big final strikeout tonight. I dunno, but I'm excited, and going to home games #19 and #20 tomorrow and Sunday and if they don't win the East, I'll be disappointed, but not mad. That's a far cry from the town's attitude as of late.
Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 "Whoosh." Hey, great contribution to the thread! You show up once a week at best in the baseball threads to tell us how much Manuel sucks or how the Phillies don't have it and you're going to deride me for my contributions? That's funny.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 You've still given nothing to this thread, not even opinions about baseball, except ones that were erroneous. It was your incorrect statement that originally led to me rebuttal and your serious uncreative response. I'll ignore your comments about me because they are unfounded and also erroneous. Even the people that like me only find my posts, quote, "funny", in a negative OR positive manner, once in a blue moon. The moon is not blue. Keep trying, chum. The times I bitch about Manuel or Myers, my only two targets, are when they do something stupid (Myers throwing bad pitches and losing games, blowing up on the media, Manuel's numerous coaching blunders), and the rest of the time I either give Philly updates or give positive opinions on the team. This is a discussion forum and is thus a grounds for conversation and not uncolorful metaphoric ine-word phrases also serving as sounds like your "Whoosh." or whatever you were trying to convey following the dissection of your original point about the great MVP Ryan Howard. I shall check in tomorrow at approximately 3 AM to discuss the Phillies post-season push following a trip to the great Citizens Bank Park and the local bar. I hope to be in a happy mood and will see if we cannot resolve this matter with a discussion of what your favorite baseball team is and how their postseason hopes are going. This will be Eastern Standard Time, so if you're really from the Pacific Northwest, I invite you to join me at 12 midnight Pacific Time. Otherwise, please post your baseball-related comments that do not attack posters for having differing opinions and I will comment on them.
Steve J. Rogers 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 What's the deal with the Yankees having an insane celebration when their $200 million team barely squeaked into the wild card? Yeah, making the playoffs is an accomplishment, but the whole thing seems misguided. I wouldn't call this season a story of success. There was a hilarious argument last night on BBTN with Ravech and I believe Dusty Baker. After they cut away from the Yankees/Rays feed, complete with Brian Kay (?) deeming this season a story of perseverance and courage, Ravech wondered aloud, with a $200 million budget, whether it should rather be labeled a season of underachieving. Baker then retorted "You can't call it a underachieving season. Their pitchers, early on in the season, were pitching terribly." What I would pay to have a camera on Ravech's face after that. Ravech just sighed and moved on to the next segment after that exchange. That's hilarious. I heard something similar on some ESPN show a few weeks back. One of their analysts was saying that this year might be Joe Torre's finest work as a manager because he took a team that no one thought could compete (really...?) and kept them in the race all year. According to this dolt, the Yankees were in a clear rebuilding mode this year and weren't expected them to make a run at the playoffs. It was too much for me to handle. I had to turn the channel. What is the purpose of even making an argument like that? And yeah, show me ANYONE who actually thought the Yankees were going to suck real bad this year? the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 No doubt, this team (and manager) certainly gets credit no matter what happens. Lord knows I counted them out about 20 different times this year. I've been amused by Burrell running around like a 7 year old being told they are going to Pizza Hut for winning the last couple of weeks.
Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 For a team that started 21-29 with teams like Detroit, Cleveland, Seattle, Boston, and Anaheim around, it's pretty impressive.
NYU 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 Even though he probably doesn't deserve it, no way Willie Randolph survives this. This could set the franchise back years and years. I have no idea what happens this off season I really don't know what to say I do think he'll survive this season but he's absolutely going to be given an ultimatum for next season to make the playoffs or else. This is just crushing though. The majority of this bullpen needs to be torn apart and shipped to any team willing to take them on. Particularly Mota -- he's the one pitcher everybody is placing the most blame on, and he needs to go. He has earned himself the same crown of thorns Armando Benitez wore while he was here. UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 The point of that was that Steve J. Rogers over-exaggerates the Mets problems. Or even mention the Phillies AT ALL? Are you mental? Jeez, chill with the flame-baiting.

UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 So you're not allowed to post your thoughts here unless you've posted ALL SEASON (which I have) ? Who the fuck are you, again? For someone that pretends he is a mod you sure do everything BUT discuss baseball. Now you have: 1) made self-imposed stupid rules 2) flamed me, puts words into my posts that a blind man could see weren't in the post 3) claimed things about baseball players that logically make no sense 4) STILL not discussed baseball once 5) told me I have to be here all year to post 6) obviously not been here all year, since you have no idea who Steve J. Rogers is 7) made the last two pages un-fun So anyway (please don't respond, I offered to be civil with you and discuss baseball but you couldn't comprehend that and keep telling me not to celebrate despite having a lot to cheer about in Philadelphia and still using the words "IF WE LOSE" in multiple posts) - the Brewers, despite having some sick Piggly Wiggly commercials on MLB Package, had an even sicker looking defense tonight. In a bad way. Errors/missed balls galore pretty much put away any chance for them to make the playoffs, IMO, despite Chicago making no effort to clinch the division. Bright future and possible MVP candidate (top candidate), young team, but season seems over. A shame, I wanted to see Bernie Brewer slide down the, uh, slide and do something special for a home Brewers playoff game. The Padres look sick right now, and I hope they stay hot if only just to keep the even hotter Padres out of the playoffs if the Phillies lock up the other spot. The Rox look pretty deadly, and the Padres really haven't had a tough schedule late in the year, but only looked vulnerable when playing Colorado. I'd rather take my chances facing Young and Peavy then getting Holliday and friends every day for 3-5 or 7 games.
