Looking forward to the stuff on the Samoans and what looks to be a J-Tex match with the shorty featuring Buzz Sawyer and The Great Muta! The Raws on the MNW should be great with the post Wrestlemania stuff leading into the formation of The Hart Foundation while Nitro enters a COMPLETE dead period as Hogan basically disappears and the company went months without a World Title match on PPV.

 

The NWA show skipping ahead tells me they are itching to get to the formation of the Horsemen at the beginning of 1986.

So, as I was saying, the Nitros coming up are downright horrible. WCW was definitely in "coasting" mode as they knew Vince couldn't throw anything at them that was going to give them a serious challenge at this point.

The March 31 Raw might be the show with Bulldog vs. Owen in the rematch with one of the greatest angles in history taking place. I remember taping that show since I watched UK vs. Arizona in the national title game that night.

Doesn't look like it. I do hope they tape some more in the near future. It was easily the best thing the WWE has produced in a LONG time. I'd like to see some different people on the panel, though. You could get Steamboat, Windham, or any one of the "producers" they have working for them right now in place of Bischoff, who is not under contract anymore. Hell, I'd love to see Dusty back on it only because you know he's good for some great storytelling. Now that I think about it... I wish Jim Cornette was still with the company because he would be incredible on a show like this.

 

I'd love to see them tackle topics like they did with the Monday Night Wars. They could talk about the Montreal Screwjob (They alluded to it in the MNW episode), territory days (You know Lawler and Ross have a wealth of stories from their experiences), among other things.

 

Still, I'd even like it if they did another series on individual stars. The Iron Sheik/Andre the Giant episode was my favorite roundtable besides the MNW episode.

Sting/Vampiro is too much. I really can't stand Scott Hudson on these late WCW shows. Just shut the fuck up and call the match; he's worse than Mark Madden.

 

His little Hogan joke was the least funniest thing I've heard.

I believe the Choose Your Big One poll on WWE.com was among 3 Halloween Havoc events (I want to say '89, '91, and '92). So at least one Halloween Havoc should be on 24/7 this month.

I'm kind of disappointed by this lineup. I guess having 24/7 since 2005 does that since they do play a lot of the same stuff per month. I was hoping for Halloween Havoc 93 so I can finally see that opening segment that sounds so terrible it's awesome with Tony Schiavone turning into a werewolf or something goofy that I read about. I hope Havoc 89 wins the poll.

 

Brody/Abby was pretty fun though. And that Sting/Vampiro Torch match is probably one of the worst matches I've ever seen in the best possible way ever. Total Kennel From Hell vibe. The ECW show has a fun Raven/Dreamer match with a nice video package detailing the feud up until that point. The Boston Garden show sounds terrible with Hogan/Bundy being the only match that I might check out since I've enjoyed all of their matches I've seen so far for some reason.

I like the Snitsky intros to the Shorties. Sting vs Vampiro was priceless in terms of how laughably awful it was with all the "lightning" and what not. Hansen vs Martel was a nice little brawl too.

Just watched the Angels-Kai/Martin matchup. Watching various WWE shows from 1985-86, it was apparent that the company constantly tried to find a replacement for Wendi Richter. Lisa Sliwa, Candice Pardue, Velvet McIntyre, etc. The Jumping Bomb Angels were OVER.

I have come to the conclusion that WCCW cage matches suck. They all have refs trying to enforce rules and crap....who wants shit like that in a cage match? It's like they thought Gene Kiniski's involvement as ref at Starrcade 83 in the Flair/Race cage match was a GOOD idea.

 

HH 97 was a fun show but like quite a few ECW PPVs it simply runs out of gas at the end. I enjoyed the first half of the show quite a bit, but it started waning around the time the goofy USWA interpromotional matches started (PG-13, Lawler). I thought it was quite bizarre that Sabu was the champion going into the show and they really didn't mention him winning the belt all that much in the barbed wire match. As in Douglas had an obviously huge advantage going against two guys who damn near killed each other a week earlier!

I'm watching Tombstone Part 1 right now. I wouldn't buy this DVD when it came out but I have no problem watching a bunch of Taker matches on 24/7. I do like how it doesn't go right to a match (like I thought it did), it has this intro - which I'm watching now - going over the introduction of the character, complete with Brother Love handing him over to Paul Bearer.

I was reading an old review of Nitro to see what Benoit-related stuff was removed from the 3/17/97 ep, and the main event was intro'd by Michael Buffer.

 

I'm not surprised that WWE cut out that footage since Buffer owns the TM on his spiel, and in and of itself it's not much, but it just seems to fit in with WWE's "let's change things to save money instead of presenting an accurate depiction of history" mentality.

 

And watching the old Nitro's, one thing that stands out as decidedly "WCW" is the replay of the entrances in slow motion after the match. Also "only in WCW" was the practice of wrestlers cutting out-of-breath promos right into the camera after the end of a match, where more often than not they say stuff that tends to make them sound slow on the mic and not very creative.
