Reports are that the Cubs have flipped Omar Infante and Will Oh-man to the Braves for a minor league pitcher. Infante was expendable and Oh-man was the proverbial white flag last season, their departure is fine with me. Hopefully the pitcher has some upside, though, as the Cubs have essentially traded three guys to get him.

ESPN.com has an article that says that Miguel Cabrera has lost at least 15 pounds this offseason and is 100% focused in being in the best shape of his life next season.

 

Guess the Marlins weren't worth getting in shape for? I can't say I disagree.

 

Ken Rosenthal reported about an hour ago that the Marlins and Tigers are talking a blockbuster deal that would see both Cabrera AND Willis go to the Tigers for Cameron Maybin, Andrew Miller, and other players.

holy shit, i just read that, cabrera and willis? for miller, maybin, and some other small parts? the small parts coming from whatever the tigers can get for inge. if i was the marlins, i'd take inge, too. he struggles for average but he is a 25+ hr man with great defense. the trade is intriguing for both teams. before maybin sucked the cock during his call-up, he was a fairly big deal. maybe he still is? I like miller, but i could deal with him going.

I just heard on Mike and the Mad Dog that the Yankees believe Santana is going to the Red Sox for Lester, Crisp and a "couple of other prospects". Something about that potential deal just doesn't sound right from Minnesota's end. If Santana goes to Boston, the Yankees will go after Haren.

I think the Marlins should do that deal with the Tigers, if it's indeed true. The Marlins aren't going to contend for the next couple years, but a bunch of young talent like that could set them up to have a solid window in a few years.

Crisp and Melky are a Wash?????????????? Last time I checked, Melky put up better numbers last year, is 5 years younger, makes 5 million less per year and hasn't even hit his ceiling yet. I wouldn't call that a wash. And Hughes has a much better ceiling compared to a cancer patient and 2 spare parts. Now if and when the Red Sox get Santana, are the Red Sox fans going to blame the Yankees for always spending money and buying players?

Considering there's not a Mets fan out there who thinks that was a good deal, I fail to see your point. Santana's at worst a top 3 in MLB pitcher, and yet you've got Yankee fans who have convinced themselves that Joba, Hughes AND Kennedy will all be as good as he is so there's no need to get him, and that Cano, Cabrera and all of their other prospects are untouchable. If you're not willing to trade anyone that is worth a dime, why get excited last week when it seemed like your team was the favorite to land him? It sounds like a guy who wanted to date a girl, talked her up for a while, asked her out, got rejected and then says something to the effect of "I never wanted that bitch anyway".

The biggest problem I have is that the Twins want both Hughes AND Kennedy. I wouldn't mind giving up a package of Hughes/Melky/Horne, it's just ridiculous the Twins might take Lester/Coco/Masterson/Lowrie when you could aruguably say both Hughes AND Kennedy are better if not equal to Lester.

I think that Santana will be quite awesome with the Red Sox, and the Yankee fans & sportswriters will celebrate "letting" the Red Sox acquire him until next season when he is awesome, beats the shit out of the Yankees at home, and then they will write that not acquiring him was a huge mistake and shouldn't they have not re-signed Choke-Rod and used some of that money to acquire players that would have replaced the ones they should have given up for Santana.
