Infante was expendable and Oh-man was the proverbial white flag last season, their departure is fine with me. Hopefully the pitcher has some upside, though, as the Cubs have essentially traded three guys to get him.

Guess the Marlins weren't worth getting in shape for? I can't say I disagree. Ken Rosenthal reported about an hour ago that the Marlins and Tigers are talking a blockbuster deal that would see both Cabrera AND Willis go to the Tigers for Cameron Maybin, Andrew Miller, and other players. I kinda like that one.

I like miller, but i could deal with him going.

Something about that potential deal just doesn't sound right from Minnesota's end. If Santana goes to Boston, the Yankees will go after Haren.

Last time I checked, Melky put up better numbers last year, is 5 years younger, makes 5 million less per year and hasn't even hit his ceiling yet. I wouldn't call that a wash. And Hughes has a much better ceiling compared to a cancer patient and 2 spare parts. Now if and when the Red Sox get Santana, are the Red Sox fans going to blame the Yankees for always spending money and buying players?

It's laughable how some fans are embracing the "underdog" role when they're still paying almost $200 million per year to field their team. Must be some powerful drugs those guys are on.

Santana's at worst a top 3 in MLB pitcher, and yet you've got Yankee fans who have convinced themselves that Joba, Hughes AND Kennedy will all be as good as he is so there's no need to get him, and that Cano, Cabrera and all of their other prospects are untouchable. If you're not willing to trade anyone that is worth a dime, why get excited last week when it seemed like your team was the favorite to land him? It sounds like a guy who wanted to date a girl, talked her up for a while, asked her out, got rejected and then says something to the effect of "I never wanted that bitch anyway".

I as a Red Sox fan haven't seriously bitched about the Yankee payroll since 2004. I can't speak for the rest of them.

I wouldn't mind giving up a package of Hughes/Melky/Horne, it's just ridiculous the Twins might take Lester/Coco/Masterson/Lowrie when you could aruguably say both Hughes AND Kennedy are better if not equal to Lester. edit: I heard that the Twins offered Santana for Hughes/Melky/Marquez/Jackson or Horne last night.

I think that Santana will be quite awesome with the Red Sox, and the Yankee fans & sportswriters will celebrate "letting" the Red Sox acquire him until next season when he is awesome, beats the shit out of the Yankees at home, and then they will write that not acquiring him was a huge mistake and shouldn't they have not re-signed Choke-Rod and used some of that money to acquire players that would have replaced the ones they should have given up for Santana. I know I can't wait.
