naiwf Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 I think the amazing thing about this is that people are actually unhappy they saw a team go unbeaten in the regular season. If the dreaded Cowboys had done it I'd still have to give them credit for doing something I never would have thought I'd have the chance to see. Of course I'd root for all of their playoff opponents to give them that one loss 73-0, but I'd still respect their accomplishment.
Brett Favre Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 You damn better respect it. Who the hell do you think we're talking about here? These guys know how to play football. They play to win. They leave it on the field. They have the heart of a champion. No one is going to tell me otherwise.

And if all else fails, the refs will throw a BS flag against the Ravens to ensure 4 more chances to throw into the endzone when the game should be over.   Edited for accuracy.
Danville_Wrestling Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 It's hard to tell if Manning actually intends to move around in second half passing situations like Macauley Culkin running from the bees in that one big sad movie with Dan Aykroyd, or if his enfeebled actions are the result of an experimental neuro-toxin that the Patriots have pumped into opposing locker rooms at halftime for years. Â That's one of most hilarious sports analogies I've ever read, especially since I am definitely not an eli Manning fan. Â Props to the Pats for going 16-0, I may never see that done again in my lifetime. On another note, the real season starts next week in the playoffs and the AFC is not going to be an easy road for New England to navigate. Joseph Addai could definitely give New England problems in the AFC title game if the Colts get there as the outdoor weather should reign in some of New England's passing attack (albeit not all of it). Hell, I think even Jacksonville could give New England some trouble in the divisional round.

I also liked the 15-yard personal foul against the Patriots that was revised to a 15-yard personal foul against the Giants for no readily apparent reason, and of course, the eye gouge non-call. The Patriots' "dynasty" shall surely be remembered for its wheelbarrows of goofy-ass officiating.
Boon Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 This was an exciting game to watch. Only one turnover really surprised me. The Pats went 6-13 on 3rd downs, but it seemed like they were converting every 3rd and long in the second half. Brandon Jacobs is a monster. If they had stayed with him in the second half, I could've easily seen the Giants pulling this one off. Some really dick moves by Harrison/Wilfork leave a sour taste, but 16-0 is history. Â I know suggesting to you people not to bitch about the refs is a reach, but excessive celebration is a borderline call everytime and that penalty hurt a lot. OMFG THE REFZ GAVE THE PATZ DA GAME is beyond tiresome at this point.
Failed Bridge Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 as much as Czech and I are friends the only one I constantly see bitching in these threads is him and he's obviously no Boston sports fan, so where is this "all Boston sports fans from TSM bitch and complain" bologna coming from?

OMFG THE REFZ GAVE THE PATZ DA GAME is beyond tiresome at this point. Excessive celebration isn't borderline when it takes 30 seconds and you jump on a teammate so he can lift you into the air. Â They didn't call a fucking poke to the eye as unsportsmanlike conduct. Â They called unnecessary roughness when someone tripped over a camerman's foot while he was being stared at. Â Never mind that a drive that was stopped on third and long was continued for an illegal contact call that was borderline at best on a play where Brady never had a chance to throw the ball. Â OMFG THE REFZ GAVE THE PATZ DA GAME is beyond tiresome at this point only because everytime they don't run the fucking score up somebody has to say it.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 I notice the not so secret thing about Rick Neuheisel going to coach UCLA which means the Ravens will have yet another Offensive Coordinator next year. Â Â Â Â

Oh borderline my fucking ass; I saw the penalty coming the second he caught that ball. "You people." ugh.
Guest Tzar Lysergic Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 See, here's the thing. Â As much as I hate the Patriots, and I really hate the Patriots; as much as Brian hates the Romans, I have a really difficult time expressing my disgust with them. No idea why. I think it's the novelty and awe of seeing a team go 16-0 and rewrite every page of the history book in the process. Â My issue with hating on them relentlessly is due to how karmic the past two seasons of NFL football as been for me. Â Last year, it was my two all-time favorite sports team playing for the championship, and this year has good money on it being my two most hated. Ain't that some shit?
Guest My Pal, the Tortoise Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 I can see that, but I don't care to see history rewritten, and certainly not by this odious bunch. I probably wouldn't hate the whole thing so much if I wasn't inundated with Patriot love from all sides: the New England-based national sports media, a board that's a de facto Boston sports board, so on, so forth. I'm tired of being told why I have to like this team.
cabbageboy Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 If I must endure the Patriots in the Super Bowl I better not also have to endure the Cowboys with Tony Romo. That is pretty much the epitome of a heel vs. heel matchup. At least with NE vs. GB there would be the cool "Can Favre win one more big one and beat an invincible juggernaut?" storyline. And to be honest, we already know that NE will crush the Cowboys. I could stomach the Colts vs. Cowboys, Patriots vs. Packers, Colts vs. Packers....but please not Patriots vs. Cowboys. Â It feels bizarre saying this since I've never really hated the Cowboys, but I think this year that they are wildly lucky and Romo is insanely overrated. The Patriots may have had some breaks, but at least have won with their own skills for the most part. I've quite literally seen Buffalo and Detroit hand Dallas games. The Cowboys are basically a slightly more talented version of the Bears with Rex Grossman.
HarleyQuinn Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 The one thing I did like about the game (even when the calls were ticky tacky by the referees against the Giants... Pats homer here too) was... Â Belichick asks the referee who the unsportsmanlike conduct call was on, saw it was Rodney Harrison, and instantly sent him to the bench for a play or two. A nice way of not only admonishing Rodney for a dumb penalty, but also again telling the rest of the team that nobody is above anybody else.
Hawk 34 Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 How would Green Bay/NE be any less insufferable? FAVRE: AMERICAN HERO would be equally nauseating as the Romo-TO-Jessica triangle. Â Sitting a guy down for a play is teaching a lesson?
Guest My Pal, the Tortoise Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 Curiously, I'm immune to the Favre thing. Every year is his last year, and there are several quarterbacks more unlikable than Favre. Two of them played last night. The one thing I did like about the game (even when the calls were ticky tacky by the referees against the Giants... Pats homer here too) NAW NOT ANOTHER, NOT HERE Â The Cowboys are basically a slightly more talented version of the Bears with Rex Grossman. No they aren't. Are you high?
Slayer Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 Curiously, I'm immune to the Favre thing. Every year is his last year I'd think that would be a major reason why you would hate him, especially vis-a-vis the media's complete 180 of him this year compared with the last two
Guest My Pal, the Tortoise Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 Oh, yeah, I'm totally sick of his Football Clemens shit and I want him to just retire already so that Wisconsin can mourn the loss (they'd wear black socks with their sandals) and move on, but given the alternatives, hey, worse people could win this thing. Favre is just the respected arch-nemesis at this point, whereas Eli Manning, Tom Brady, Tony Romo, and their respective teams offend my football sensibilities. Â The other element of this is that when the Bears were in the Super Bowl last year and I was really obnoxious and insufferable, it wasn't so bad for everyone else, because hey, there's only one of me. Multiply me by 20 in various forms, New Me, Old Me, Straight Me, Gay Me, Mentally Unstable Me, Irretrievably Retarded Me, and so on down the line, and you guys would want to just give up the place entirely.

As a Bears fan, there are worse things to happen than the Green Bay Packers winning the Super Bowl? Â I guess this rivalry is really dying down then.
Slayer Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 Just to generate some alternate discussion, since it seems most of us (self included) are presuming the SB will automatically come down to some combination of the top-two seeds in either conference... considering the number of divisional round upsets in the last four years, are there any 3-or-below seeds that have an outside shot at the SB?
Guest My Pal, the Tortoise Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 Doin' it for the Great Lakes. Â But seriously, I'm at the point where I can at least deal with the well-worn rival winning it all, because I like the idea of the Packers and the Bears being at the top. Having the Patriots and the NFC East thrust upon me is far worse.
Slayer Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 btw  The other element of this is that when the Bears were in the Super Bowl last year and I was really obnoxious and insufferable, it wasn't so bad for everyone else, because hey, there's only one of me. I don't think dealing with the motley crew of ya Packers fans here (Cuban hippie, Southern stoner, Canadian automaton, and local cunt) would be any more preferable

Let's not forget the Steelers won it as a 6 seed. I think Jacksonville has an absolutely great shot of making the Super Bowl, but that's pretty much it (NE/Indy/JAX being the only three I would expect to make it on the AFC side), the NFC is a crapshoot and anyone could make it to the Super Bowl from that conference. Well New York Giants has to be excluded because Eli Manning will not put together 3 wins in a row in the playoffs against the cream of the 2007 NFC crop.
Guest Tzar Lysergic Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 I don't really see a 3 or under having much of a shot. I can't see anyone getting through both Indianapolis and New England in the AFC. Â The NFC could be iffy. Seattle, maybe? Washington/Minneosta/New Orleans..no way. I haven't seen enough of Tampa Bay this season to really judge. Giants? Get fucked.
Slayer Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 I'm sure Kinetic has some sort of opinion to offer on Tampa Bay (more like TAMPON Bay, m i rite)
Guest Tzar Lysergic Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 Don't buy the Jacksonville erection. The Colts swept these guys this season, including one shitkicking, and no one can be favored in New England, period. They don't exactly have big play potential through the air, either. Â Running the ball and playing tough defense is great and all, but they're beatable. Â
snuffbox Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 Green Bay is fielding their junior varsity today.
Guest Tzar Lysergic Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 Cold, but not puking-cold in Chicago. Nice hit on special teams for Chicago after a bullshit first possession.
Guest Tzar Lysergic Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 Picked by Urlacher! Joy!
