cabbageboy Posted March 1, 2008 Report Posted March 1, 2008 I enjoyed it pretty well, but did anyone else feel that they should have made Ferrell's role a supporting character and made Woody Harrelson the main character? His character is much more compelling in the film (washed up former NBA star now playing out his career in the ABA, turns player/coach). While I'm not old enough to remember the ABA, there are plenty of people in Louisville who are still bitter about the way the Kentucky Colonels were screwed over and disbanded. While the depiction of the ABA in this film is sorta accurate, it's not in other aspects. The ABA did have crazy marketing schemes to boost lousy attendance. However, the league was certainly not some sort of semi-pro crap. There were all sorts of major stars in the ABA and in fact the actual level of play for the top teams was likely better than the NBA of the same time period.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 I wanna see his next movie coming out in July with John C Reilly Step Brothers
Jaxxson Mayhem Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 I'll catch it on cable, if only because Maura Tierney is in it. She has a sex scene in it. All they show is part of her ass though.
Spaceman Spiff Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 Outstanding! I may even go so far as to drop $3.99 on it when it shows up on On Demand.
bob_barron Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 As much as I love Maura, her role really should've been cut out of the movie. Easily the worst part of the movie. Okay, I take that back since the sex scene was awesome
Mecha Mummy Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 I wanna see his next movie coming out in July with John C Reilly Step Brothers ... seriously? That looks terrible. Like, from the trailer it pretty much looks like The Brothers Solomon except with awful "hahaha they're manchildren" jokes as opposed to "hahaha they're awful with women" jokes.
Craig Th Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 Will Arnett was awesome in this movie. You shouldn't be smoking. I only smoke when I drink
bob_barron Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 Agreed, he owned this movie. I loved when he pulled the gun on Tim Meadows. It was also cool that Ben Franklin from the Office was his commentating partner
Mik Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 I'm a big Will Ferrell fan. I've enjoyed every movie he's been in. I even liked "Kicking and Screaming". With that said, this movie sucked. Despite all the bad reviews and negative comments in this thread I figured I would still enjoy it. Man, was I wrong. The most it got out of me was a chuckle and that was maybe 5 times at most. I wasn't bored out of my mind or anything but it just wasn't funny.
Youth N Asia Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 Enjoyed it for the most part, but I don't think it's one I need to see again. Nowhere near as funny as Walk Hard (which shouldn't have tanked), but better than his last little turd called Blades of Glory. I saw the movie in Flint actually, little drive down the road, crowd seemed to love it
DrVenkman PhD Posted March 12, 2008 Report Posted March 12, 2008 Agreed, he owned this movie. I loved when he pulled the gun on Tim Meadows. It was also cool that Ben Franklin from the Office was his commentating partner The whole movie I was thinking "I know that guy / voice from somewhere" but couldn't put it together. Thanks. I saw it cheap last night and actually enjoyed it, though it's not much different than typical Ferrel. Will Arnett was great though (as previously stated by others).
Matt Young Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Bear star snaps... The grizzly bear that wrestled Will Ferrell in Semi-Pro killed a man yesterday. From ABC News: The bear named Rocky is 7 feet tall and weighs 700 pounds. Without warning, the seemingly tame bear's killer instinct kicked in as three experienced trainers were working with him at a facility east of Los Angeles. "He, unfortunately, bit one of the trainers," Maurice Moore of the San Bernadino Fire Department said. "A single bite to the neck, no aggression acts to follow." Rocky attacked 39-year-old Stephan Miller, who died before emergency help arrived. Here's the bear's clip with Ferrell from Semi-Pro.
