Kinetic 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2008 Former Chargers safety Terrence Kiel died Friday night in a car accident. He was 27. The accident occurred in the Scripps Ranch area of San Diego. A witness told police that Kiel was driving a 2004 Chevy sedan the wrong way before losing control and rolling it. Kiel was ejected from the vehicle. Kiel was a second-round pick in the 2003 draft. He appeared in every game in 2003 and 2004, 12 in 2005, and 15 in 2006. The Chargers released him in 2007 after he pleaded guilty to sending codeine-laced cough syrup to Houston, presumably for use as the main ingredient in the beverage known as “lean” or “purple drank.” No other team signed him. Guest !!! Report post Posted July 9, 2008 If NBC adds one more person to its pregame show, I'm going to need a second TV to fit them all. I was actually hoping that they'd downplay Olbermann's involvement for the 2008 season, since there's sort of a campaign and election happening during the first two months of football season and theoretically he should be too busy being the face of their news department to do highlights of that day's Broncos/Raiders game. Oh well. Countdown with Keith Olbermann airs every weekday night at 8p Eastern/7p Central, then a replay at 10/9 Central, then a third fucking time after that. Don't miss it. Gert T 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2008 Not much discussion going on in this thread, so I'll just throw this article out there (it has been a topic of discussion on sports talk radio). Some curious rankings and omissions there... What a shitty list. Agreed. I am a diehard Bengals fan, and I can't justify Carson Palmer in the Top 8. Don't get me wrong, he could be a Top 3 QB, if we had a better O-Coordinator. At the least, its a good summer read, meant to garner attention. Just to difficult to make when its not broken down by position.
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2008 Matt Jones, coke fiend. Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Matt Jones faces a felony drug charge in his former college town after police say he was inside a car cutting up cocaine with a credit card. The 25-year-old Jones and two others were arrested early Thursday. A police report said officers approached the car and an officer drew his handgun after Jones did not immediately show his hands. Police said they searched the vehicle and found a plastic bag filled with a white substance that tested positive for cocaine and a jar with possible marijuana residue. Jared Hicks and Benjamin Cook were also arrested on misdemeanor drug charges. Jones will be arraigned Friday on a charge of felony possession of a controlled substance. Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver said he was waiting to learn details of the case. "We're trying to investigate that now," Weaver said. "We don't have all the facts. We will comment on that once we have all the facts." Jones, a star quarterback at Arkansas and a first-round pick in 2005, failed to develop into the go-to receiver Jacksonville thought he could be. I like that Troy Williamson was Minnesota's replacement for Randy Moss at one point. Also, linebacker Napoleon Harris. Is he even still with Minnesota? HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2008 Sam Hollenbach was cut by Washington on 7/10. Was most notable for playing poorly at Maryland (Final 2 years saw 28 TD vs. 26 INT). Washington now has Campbell, Collins, Brennan, and Derek Divine at QB. Divine was strictly a backup at Marshall.

MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2008 Trent Dilfer has retired. But has he really, though? I mean, this guy's won as many Super Bowls as Favre. What if he gets the bug? I think the Ravens should have tried to bring back Dilfer this year. Couldnt be any worse than Boller/Smith/WACKO FOR JOE FLACCO Im gonna stick beside my statement last year that Troy Smith should be the starting QB this year, but I have a feeling Boller gets the start, sucks hard and gets replaced by WFJF. HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2008 I'd like to see Troy Smith start simply because he had success at Ohio State in a tough conference and played well against good competition. Even at his height, he has a really good weight (6'0" 225) and is mobile enough to pick up 20-30 yards a game. Even with the increase in size of defensive players, the concept of a small quarterback not being able to read throwing lanes isn't that much of a hindrance. The difference between 6'0" and 6'2" is largely nothing in all honesty and too much IMO is made on a quarterback's height between 6'0" and 6'3". They drafted Boller after all because of his rocket arm and size without realizing he couldn't play football. College stats don't mean a ton but he averaged in 3 seasons a 50.0% completion rate. His best year was 53.4% his Sr. season... What I liked about Troy coming out of college was: Accuracy, ability to prevent mistakes (46 TD vs. 10 INT his final 2 years), and ability to go to the open receiver (In 2006, 7 players had at least 13 catches). Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2008 I think he's worth much more of a shot than Boller, who really hasn't gotten it together in several attempts. I think I've mentioned it here before, but Troy Smith reminds me much more of Drew Brees than the spread-option mobile quarterbacks I feel he gets lumped in with. They're practically the same size, very accurate, and they're mobile without being scramblers. In his best season at Ohio State, Smith dialed down the rushing significantly and only ran 62 times. When your choices are 1) Kyle Boller, 2) a guy who sounds like Kyle Boller did coming out of college, and 3) a guy with high career completion percentage, versatile physical ability, and a whole lot of games won, I'd at least entertain giving the third guy a few starts. In Flacco's defense... He was far, far more accurate than Boller could've wished to be. He does have a good pocket presence and could buy some time when necessary but he isn't known as a scrambler. Think Peyton Manning maybe, capable of a 3-4 yard run but don't expect him to be running often. The downsides... a laser of an arm but there are questions about his touch and whether he can consistently throw middle routes without just powering them through. Also is he a one year wonder? He really struggled down the stretch but made smart decisions in terms of TD to INT. Final 5 Games: 97/188 (51.2%) with 1,223 yards (6.5 YPA) and 7 TD vs. 1 INT. I personally liked QB Josh Johnson more, who was selected 4 rounds later. Johnson's similar to Troy Smith, athletic and played in a pass happy offense meaning that his decision making was better IMO because he played in an offense where he had to make smart decisions with the ball.
