HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted February 13, 2008 THIS IS A MUSIC ONLY DRAFT! Shamelessly stealing this concept from another board b/c honestly... it's an astonishing thread. I'll be the head honcho keeping track because I don't have a great taste in music and am more curious to see what others pick. Here's a link to the thread that gave me the idea: http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...=153018&hl= Concept: You're stuck on a desert is@\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00Ú\x00\x00<\x00\x00\x00\x0020yourself for the remainder of your days. You have a water cooler, unlimited supply of food, and a solar powered MP3/CD/Record Player/8-Track. What albums do you bring? Design: Upon deciding the draft order, each poster will select an album that they want for their island (i.e. at pick 1.01 Vitamin X selects Abbey Road by The Beatles and writes a brief reason why he chose that album at 1.01. Something like, "Paul and George really elevated themselves and I love everything on Side A, especially the vocals on Come Together and on Side B I loved the harmonizing on Because." Then the poster at pick 1.02 would pick their album, so on and so forth. After the completion of all 20 rounds, a poll would be set up with the posters and their "collection" and TSM would vote on the best collection. Rules - 20 Rounds (Serpentine). - PM the person after you when their pick is up. - Must post a brief writeup on why you chose the album you did. - You cannot choose: Re-Released Albums, Greatest Hits, Boxed Sets, Compilations (Tributes, Movie Soundtracks), Bootlegs. - All else is fair game from 1800's - 2008. Note: Original movie score soundtracks (i.e. The Fifth Element) are okay, soundtracks (i.e. The Crow) are not. - 12 hour deadline between picks. If a pick is missed, the following posters can pick until the original poster picks. You can also PM your pick to me or somebody else and have them post for you if you know you'll be gone. - Winner will be determined by a board wide vote on who has obtained the best collection. Draft Order - Remember: Serpentine 1 - Tzar Lysergic 2 - RHR 3 - Ravenbomb 4 - TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 5 - "Hail" bps21 6 - StevieKick 7 - the Sperm 8 - The Coat Is My Father 9 - Cowboy 13012 10 - Mr. S£im Citrus 11 - Milky Korova 12 - The Man In Blak 13 - mw679 14 - Darthtiki 15 - Edwin MacPhisto 16 - incandescent 17 - Vitamin X Draft Results - Setup by poster. Guest Tzar Lysergic Report post Posted February 15, 2008 The album I cannot live without: Neurosis-Souls at Zero The primordial ooze that spawned the feel and style of the remainder of their career. I've seen it called transitional, which is true, but a quality that I appreciate. Raw and hateful with a depth to the negativity recorded. Some of the best use of sampling I can think of. When I want to hear this album, absolutely nothing else will suffice. Intense, accessible, deep, and perfect in every way.
HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2008 It's been 24 hours. Ravenbomb's on the clock with the rest to follow. RHR can make his selection at any time as well (will still "count" as 1.02).
Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2008 "Safe as Milk" by Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band Not as infulential an album as Trout Mask Replica, perhaps, but easier to listen to and just as good of an album. I can play the album a few times in a row and not get sick of hearing it, and then a day or so later something like Yellow Brick Road or Sure 'Nuff 'n Yes I Do will come up on a playlist, and it feels like some song I haven't heard in a while and I forgot how great it was. RHR 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2008 I could live on an island forever with the images this album puts in my mind. From the driving opening track, to the haunting middle track, to the beautiful end, this is, in my opinion, the greatest album ever recorded. It's tough, it's imperfectly perfect. The first time I listened to it all the way through over 15 years ago, I thought I had discovered some secret. And it stays with me still. And the fact that he left nearly 45 songs OFF the album that are every bit as good as the ones on it, make DARKNESS ON THE EDGE OF TOWN my first pick. TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2008 Thriller - Michael Jackson - The most listenable album I've ever heard. I can go through it endlessly without skipping a track and often find myself liking different things about different songs on every listen. Featuring everything from ballads to straight pop dance numbers to a bit of rock, 'Thriller' is the complete package and perfect mainstream album.
