EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2008 How about the Marlins having a better record than the Tigers (as does every other team in baseball..but of all teams the Marlins) I think records are meaningless at this stage. How often do you look at the L10 column in the newspaper and take that as an accurate gauge of team quality? Yet that's what is happening here.

The Marlins and Os both have the same record. so do Arizona and St Louis' hot starts not count then either?

USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2008 The Kansas City Royals and Chicago White Sox are among AL leaders. That's how serious I take records at this point.
treble 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2008 BJ Ryan is off the DL.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2008 I know it's way too early to talk about stuff like this, but Gabe Kapler is making a strong case for "Comeback Player of the Year", if there was an official award like that.

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2008 Phillies are battling the Cubs, tied at 5-5 in the ninth. The Cubs have burned all their position players at this point. The Phillies are working shorthanded, as Jimmy Rollins is not yet DL bound but has not played a defensive inning since Tuesday. Shane Victorino hit the DL, replaced by Chris Snelling who will likely join him within a week. The Lehigh Valley IronPigs are now 0-11. I'll get my first chance to check out that new park tomorrow, and then the Phillies live on Tuesday.
strummer 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2008 You know things are getting bad when Gary Cohen (who is a fair, balanced announcer who isn't much for hyperbole) is comparing Shea stadium crowds to the ones in the early 60s Well when you have 22 baserunners in 9 innings and score only 7 runs and hit into 5 double plays it's hard to "cheer"
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2008 Tough loss for the Phils, but good game.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2008 The Cubs had no business winning that game, but what an exciting last two innings. I'll never know how Lee made that pick to send the game to extra frames. I'm sure we'll hear plenty about the DeRosa homer since a run determined the outcome. A couple of points where that game was won/lost. Utley missing a home run by five feet, Lee's ground ball snag, the Phillies blowing a double play, etc.
Boon 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2008 Anybody following the Ortiz jersey/Yankee stadium story? Nice move by the Yankees after they dug it up- they're sending it to be auctioned off for the Jimmy Fund.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2008 BJ Ryan makes his first appearance in 365 days, coming into a 5-4 game in the bottom of the 10th...and promptly gives up a leadoff triple. Nice. And some good defence leaves the runner stranded at third. Even nicer.
treble 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2008 First Jays sweep in Texas since '85, I think. I'm tempted to think the series against Oakland was just some bad luck, and a case of a team having their number. They've had a chance to win every game so far this year, and with just a bit better luck, they could be sitting with only 1 or 2 losses right now.

Smartly Pretty 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2008 Guys, what's the best place to buy throwback baseball jerseys? I want a Mets away jersey from 1986, and e-bay only had home. So what's the cheapest online store?

Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2008 Not that it's that surprising, but I'd just like to point out that I live in Wisconsin, and the Cubs-Phillies game was blacked out on TBS...a game in Philadelphia! MLB's archaic black out laws really need to end.

Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2008 This is absurd. I turned the game on, expecting it to at least be in the latter innings and it's only the FOURTH? Please. I hate these games.

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2008 Here's a better one. If you hate these games, don't watch. It's nothing to do with the teams playing or the hyped rivalry. This is just slow, boring, plodding baseball. If I were a fan of either team, I'd be upset at the nature of the games. There is no reason to make the fans sit through this. Baseball can be so much better.
Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2008 You make it sound like it's the only thing on TV though. Honestly, when I watch games, and I really haven't watched this one yet, I don't care how the game goes as long as the team I'm rooting for wins.

Honestly, when I watch games, and I really haven't watched this one yet, I don't care how the game goes as long as the team I'm rooting for wins. It is, if you ignore non-baseball related programming. I want to see my team win, but I want to be entertained in the process. The Phillies lost today, but that was a highly entertaining game. This type of game makes you go to bed and hope your team won in the boxscore the next morning.
