It would be pretty funny if Shaq didn't single handedly cost Phoenix 3 games in the first round. Maybe he should stop freestyling and go work on the underhand freethrows. fucking asshole.

Apparently Shawn Marion did NOT opt out of his deal. If Wade is healthy and drops the weight he gained and they pick up a nice piece in the draft they'll probably compete for the 8th seed next season.

Shaq's deputy police badge got revoked as a result of that video.

Mutombo is probably done, too. He's been talking for a while like this was going to be his last year, but that people were trying to talk him into one more year. I'd love to seem him end up somewhere and win a ring, though, even if it is Boston.

So I am the only one that realizes that they will be one of the top teams in the East next year?

No, I realize that as well. A team with a healthy Dwyane Wade, a 'playing for a contract' Shawn Marion and whatever rookie they get can easily compete in the East.

Not to mention the awesome post prescence of...

...

well, there's...

...

Well, maybe they can talk Zo into coming back...

Miami is not contending for anything right now, guys. Seriously. Their ceiling is about what naiwf said, a lower-playoff seed.

How many awesome post-up guys are in the East, anyways? There's Howard, Bosh, KG, Sheed maybe, and... ?

So yeah, 5-8 seed!

Even Kendrick Perkins is about 3x as good as the garbage Miami has in the middle right now (Haslem aside).

Dwayne Wade/Shawn marion/probably OJ Mayo. they are also probably going ot angle to get Odom or Brand though. Really, they can put anything that can catch the ball down there and will be okay.

And I didn't say contending. I said they would be one of the upper seeds in the East. then lose horribly in the playoffs.

I'm assuming you're putting Boston and Detroit in the top 4, so where does Miami fit in against the likes of Cleveland, a healthy Washington, Orlando and Toronto? I guess I just see them in the mix with Atlanta, Philly and some of the other bottom feeders for the 6 to 8 spots, not a 3 or 4.

Simple. I don't think Washington or Toronto are going to be good teams next year.

I think losing Anthony Parker and that gaping hole at the 2 position is going to hurt Toronto. I am not so convienced that Washington will be much better, Arenas or not. They are about where I expected them to be anyway.

And I have to see what Detroit ends up with before I start handing them a top spot.

Outside of Orlando and Boston, there is nothing really known about the rest of the East in my eyes.

Even if Detroit is there, I don't see Miami out of the top five.

First year head coach means that I certainly do. But not for longer than a season or two.

And it looks like we are near our first trade of the off-season:

NEW YORK – After on-and-off again negotiations, the Indiana Pacers are close to an agreement to send six-time All-Star Jermaine O’Neal to the Toronto Raptors for point guard T.J. Ford and the 17th pick in Thursday’s NBA draft, a league executive said Wednesday.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=Am9M...o&type=lgns

So Colangelo turns Charlie V and Matt Bonner into Jermaine O'Neal in 3 seasons. I hope he still has something left in the tank. Wasn't this the same guy the Lakers wanted BAD last year and some thought he value was as high as Bynum? Either the mighty have fallen or the Raptors STOLE him here.

Remains to be seen.....

That TJ Ford guy is pretty good. i don't think giving up Ford, effective Rasho and a first round pick to get a guy is stealing him.

If anything I think Pacers got the better end of the trade. TJ Ford gives the Pacers the ability to do whatever they want with Tinsley, and they get a decent center to fill in O'Neal's spot for a season or two, and they get a first round pick in a pretty good draft. That's a win.

If the trade goes through I like it for both teams. O'Neal's rep has taken a big hit the last couple years, it seems like he just kind of checked out once they started slowly dismantling that team. The knocks on him are deserved, misses too many games, drifts out to the perimeter too much for a guy who's only an average mid-range jump shooter, takes plays off etc. but putting him next to Chris Bosh could be the tonic for a resurgence. Ford is a good player, but personally I like Calderon better, and this allows them to resign him and hand him the PG spot fulltime.

For Indiana they get a very good-great playmaker who, aside from his suspect outside shot, should fit into Jim O'Brien's system and mesh well with shooters like Granger and Dunleavy. The 17th pick shouldn't be slept on, there will be some legit talent still on the board at that pick. It seems like everyone is hating on Hibbert, but I think he'd be a good pick for them if he's there. DeAndre Jordan, CDR, Robin Lopez, they can get a contributer here and maybe more than that. Plus they're going to get rid of Tinsley, which is addition by subtraction at this point, as is turning the page on J.O. Ford is a major injury risk, but one worth taking for the Pacers here IMO.

As far as the Heat go, I'm skeptical about Wade returning to form. He's always been injury prone due to style of play, and if he doesn't have the ability to slash and finish at the rim he becomes merely a good player, not the great player that he has been in the past. If he's a quick guy who shoots pull up jumpers and occasionally attacks the basket he's a hell of a lot more guardable than the guy who's hitting the mouth of the defense every time and the mid range jumper is his changeup shot. How Wade performs and if he stays healthy enough to play 70+ games is the difference in the Heat being a top 4-5 or on the bubble playoff team. With the pick they have they should be a middle of the pack playoff team, I just have a lot of questions about Wade at this point.

I've thought a lot about the possibility of us taking Hibbert there, as well, but I have my concerns about how well he would fit into a running game. I think that even more than the injuries was the main reason Jermaine's production took a dive last season.

Hibbert is a guy who could help create opportunites to run from the defensive end, but he's not going to be a factor in it offensively. With Ford running the break, he's so fast in the open court, they don't necessarily need a 5 man break, not that a 5 man break is anything a team necessarily needs anyway. I think Hibbert would be a good fit for them, plus they still have Foster and Murphy which takes pressure off him to play a ton of minutes right a way. I think he's a guy who should develop and get better and better over the years.

I've been on the TJ Ford bandwagon since his rookie season, but it still surprises me to see anybody else show love, given how much they gas up Calderon... Am I the only person who actually thinks that Ford is better than Calderon?

No dude, you're definitely not. The problem with Ford is only his injury history; Calderon, for all we might know, is a one-hit wonder. He did a heck of a job in relief of Ford, but we'll see how he does over a full season.

Calderon isn't a one hit wonder. He is just a change up guard. Without another great point guard on the team he is about to become ordinary. He is a deadly shooter, he isn't that quick off the dribble, but with the shooters Toronto had, he was able to rack up some big assist numbers.

TJ, if you watched him play, got to the rim at will, could create for the jumpshooters and the bigs around the rim, and could get the other team in foul trouble.

I definately think he was the better point, and now they have a hole at the 2 guard and the backup point spot. And they added JO who is twice as injury prone as Ford, lost Rasho who was a very good player for them.

Like I said before...i really don't think Toronto is going to be a very good team this year.
