PILLS! PILLS! PILLS!

All-Time Wrestling Roster Draft

Recommended Posts

I think most of our rosters are fairly consistant though. Most of my picks reached their peak sometime in the '70s or '80s and the ones picked outside of that era- I believe would have fit in that era. That's why I didn't bother to pick very many cruiserweights- it just wouldn't fit in with my roster. I hesitated on picking Public Enemy for a couple of rounds because I wasn't sure if their style would fit in with the semi old-school mentality I have.

The thing is though- building these cards will be all about pacing. You can have the scientific wrestling showcase, the wild brawl, the goofy comedy match, and the crazy ass spotfest with people flying off ladders through tables and thumbtacks on the same card all on the same card and make it work as long as you pace it well. It's happened before. Just look at WrestleMania X-7- it had all of those types of matches.

I agree, all of those types of matches can be used effectively on a card. I'm just going to be curious to see who pulls off a good card, and who just pulled in big names that don't match up well together.

With my roster, everyone is generally from the same era with the exception of some real old timers. Even with that in mind, though, I've got the card balanced so that those stars are up against each other (Sheik vs. Brazil, Fargos vs. Valiants in a 6-man).

For my next pick, and to bolster my tag team division I choose Los Ice Creams.

Unfortunatly in the brief time I had to do this at work I couldn't find a picture. I will try to find one this evening though.

It pains me to know you are saddend Stevie. It will only get worse though I feel.

Just wait until you see who I put them against, it will make you even sadder I would guess.

With my next pick in the Wrestling Draft I select...

Johnny Gunn.

I liked him in his WCW days. With this pick I am totally blocking out his Salvatore Sincere days.

You completely misread that, Drury. I said you were lucky that The Patriot that was taken wasn't the Brandi version. Johnny Gunn/Tom Brandi is yours.

I am, as Dusty Rhodes would say, flubbergasted by this last chain of posts.

I apologize for confusing him. I just wanted to point out Drury's history of repeat picks.

Tony Garea

- A good undercard face. I'll use him to put over heels and be a sacrifice to Hassan's team of mercenaries. He was over enough with Martel and is a solid worker.

Sonny Siaki

- A good undercard heel. He'll draw good heat and have lower-mid card feuds with faces who need elevation. Not sure exactly what to do with him yet but I've always liked him and I think he's a good pick this late.

I'm up now right?

With my next pick I am choosing a team who were WWE tag team champions and one half later went on to great singles success and won the King of the Ring tournamnet.

For my 29th pick of the draft, I choose:

01.jpg

Mabel & Mo - They are Men on a Mission.

When a friend and I had the idea of a Men on a Mission vs. Los Ice Cream match I couldn't resist making a reality in this draft. I have no better reason for picking them than I wanted to see Men on a Mission attempt to devour the Ice Creams. Good times.

I just figured if Kai was his next choice he's not likely to want to change his pick and I didn't want her, so seems fine to me.

Yeah I reread Mellow's post and figured that I should go. I'm as easily confused as my screen namesake at times.

Anyways, with Jim Duggan and The Patriot on my roster, I've decided that my roster should have an evil foreigner and my next pick is easily the best evil foreigner available at this point. Though he's remembered by current fans as more of a tag team specialist (He was a part of three memorable WWWF/WWF tag teams), he also had a highly successful solo career. He was a rare breed of wrestler who managed to thrive in both the more serious, straightforward '70s WWWF and the cartoonish Rock 'N' Wrestling era WWF.

He's a former WWF Tag Team Champion and a member of the WWE Hall of Fame Class of '05.

With my 29th pick in the All Time Wrestling Roster Draft, I'm proud to select...

19.jpg...Nikolai Volkoff

The confused and indignant look he got on his face whenever the audience booed his singing of the Soviet National Anthem always gave me a chuckle.

Very good pick. The fact I already had Ivan was the reason I never jumped on taking Nikolai.
