MMA Comments that Don't Warrant a Thread

Poor MacDonald.

Chuck did alright on Conan but I pissed myself when Conan was talking to him about nicknames and Chuck told him Tito's and Conan laughed and said "That's not a good name".

Conan, 1. Ortiz, 0.

Yeah, Evan Tanner hasn't fought since he beat what's-his-name at UFC 59. Last I heard a few days ago, he's trying to set up a MMA training team that would live with him and be comprised of delinquint youths and homeless men. I heard that he was talking to UFC about making a return, but nothing's come out of it and doesn't look to happen in the near future. However, he was on his myspace page as recently as yesterday...talking about auctioning a bunch of memorabilia in his basement and pimpin' his new website. www.evantanner.net

Until he gets taken down by somebody with good jits.

Gomi/Sherk will not happen right off the bat, what with Sherk being out until July and Gomi being an unranked UFC fighter. Gomi/Stevenson, Gomi/Fisher (~!~!~!) and Gomi/Melvin are likely matchups.

I feel exactly the same way about BJ Penn. But I think seeing him whine and complain about the GSP decision is what made me feel that way. I like everything about him, objectively as a fighter, but I love to see him get his head beaten in.

On a side note, I have a grudge against Matt Lindland for his objections after the GSP/Penn decision as well.

The irony is that despite PRIDE's LW division being much deeper than the UFC's, Gomi has about 3 terrible, terrible style match-ups for him in the cage that are arguably tougher than anything PRIDE can offer right now.

After what he did to Ishida I don't see him getting taken down by anyone other than Penn. You have said yourself that Joe Daddy would have a tough time with him.

You're right though, this is another case of PRIDE using the UFC to gain some recognition in the U.S.

Although a gret wrestler, Ishida isn't exactly the trickiest guy to figure out, and he was basically asking to get KO'ed. I think someone like Sherk and possibly Griffin would stand a better chance against Gomi (as far as similar styles go).

Also, aside from Penn, Shaolin is probably Gomi's biggest nightmare match-up.

I think BJ is an incredible talent and I've enjoyed the fights I've seen him in.

But for some reason I love seeing him lose more then anything.

I am in the same boat, mostly because the BJ Penn fanboys piss me off.

First few participants for TUF 5 are out......

Nathan Diaz (Yes, brother of Nick)

Dan Lauzon

Matt Wiman

Both Stout and Hominick were offered shots and turned them down. Hominick wants to focus on facing (or losing, as Tong would say) Hioki for the TKO FW Title and Stout didn't want to be on a tv show and he apparently has a UFC slot ready in April for 69. This is, of course, provided that Holanda doesn't rip his arm off at the next TKO show.

I used to be like this with a lot of fighters (or even org. nuthuggers which Sherdog is full of) but then I got over it. I don't care what online geeks say, the man is fucking cool and is the most naturally talented fighter in the world.

I forgot about Griffin and Gomi, and I didn't consider Shaolin since he's not in the UFC. Gomi should Aoki soon though, that would be sick..or go the exact same way as the fight with Ishida did. I was surprised when I saw that one, I didn't think that Gomi would dwarf him as much as he did physically. It was like he hunched over to knock him out. Anyway, Sherk is very similar though I think he is much better defensively as far as striking goes, but his wrestling is probably worse. Griffen I haven't seen enough of.

Fisher is a guy that needs to get his head straightened out, all the tools but he fights dumb sometimes.

For me it's not just online, it's in real life to, I have a few friends who are big BJ Penn fans, infact my one friend calls the Hughes/Penn 2 fight a "horrible stoppage".

Nick Diaz said on Sherdog that he was offered to go on TUF 4 the Comeback, but he responded, I don't remember exact words, but it was along the lines of how he doesn't do that faggy shit fighters do to promote themselves like paint their toenails. When Josh Gross pointed out that Chuck does it too, Nick said all non-chalant like that he's still cool cuz he let him stay in his house and cooked him some breakfast.

California law regarding MMA officially changes today

This morning, the California State Athletic Commission

received word from the Office of Administrative Law

that the ring regulation (California Code of

Regulations, Title 4, Section 523) containing the

modified language for the ring surrounded by five

horizontal ropes and, depending on the size of the

ring, two or three vertical ropes has been approved.

It was filed with the Secretary of State's Office this

afternoon and is effective immediately.

The first event in California to be held in the newly

approved structure will be the IFL's event on 1/19/07

in Oakland.

Um, what does this law mean?? They can fight in three rope rings now? Is this good?

Damn, Lindland's staying busy. He's fighting Carlos Newton Feb. 2nd in Houston for the IFL. On a similar note, I'm considering going to to see the show, but I've little to no knowledge of the IFL and I haven't heard of very many of their fighters. Anybody have any info? Are the fights generally...good? I read through the topic posted about it, but I haven't seen any of it firsthand, and alot of the fighters look like shlubs.

--Aaron Brink, a former MMA fighter turned porn star, is the first announced signing for Kimo's New Era Fighting promotion, a group that is designed to present MMA to pro wrestling fans by using all pro wrestling marketing tools with soap opera, storylines, etc. and the only difference being the fights in the ring will be real. Brink said he is done with porn because you can't do both at the same time.

Some of the fighters show promise, but for the most part they all use the same basic "amateur" formula: adequate stand-up, decent takedowns wrestling, and a ground game that heavily favors G N' P over subs.
