razazteca Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 MSNBC has a MMA behind the scenes similiar to Inside the UFC program called Warrior Nation that is shown late nights focusing on the smaller groups like Valor and Strikeforce in the past its been about lightweights and women fighters. I've been wanting to checkout the newest episode but with the Anna Nichole Smith as the top story it looks like Warrior Nation is getting bumped for Geraldo rants about Smith's death. Â - Patry will be supporting the motion filed by Shaun Tomkins and Marc Hominick with the Quebec Athletic Commission to have the decison against Hioki overturned. Hioki and his corner flat-out admitted to Patry and Shaun that they thought that Marc won the fight and were preparing themselves to turn over the belt to Hominick when the decison was read. I doubt that the decison will be overturned but the filing is justified. I'm gonna order the show when it airs on PPV this Saturday because it might look different but I was sitting 8 rows up from the cage and if anything won the fight for Marc it was his agression in the final three rounds, him being suitably tooled on his feet with leg kicks for the first two. Cell, Hioki attempted three of four sloppy singles in the last two rounds but Hominick avoided/ran. The only clearly defined rounds were the first three, one and two going to Hioki and the third to Marc. Tough fight either way. Â - There is absolutely no question that the Goulet fight is going to be overturned and ruled a No Contest. The referee allowed Goulet at least another ten seconds of time after the bell and it was obvious to everybody in the crowd except for him because Schulte's corner was frantically screaming at him from their side of the cage that the round was over. He'll most likely plead that he didn't hear the bell over the roar of the crowd (which, to be fair was quite loud) but it's still no excuse for poor officiating. This is also the only fight that's ever been stood up when a fighter has another fighters back with a body triangle solidly locked on. I'm not sure who Goulet is paying off at the Quebec Athletic Commission but between this fight and him getting gifted a decison over Joslin he's looking pretty shady. Â - Holanda/Stout was a tremendous battle on one hand but ridiculously frustrating on the other. I'm not gonna disagree with anything that Cell says about Stouts skills but he should be flat-out embarassed that he was getting put on his back by takedowns that shitty and for Fabio to not be in shape for a title fight is unacceptable. Definitely worth checking out though as there were quite a few moments where I thought Fabio was going to break Stouts arm but he hung tough. This hasn't been widely reported but it's worth noting that the second round also finished a minute early. Â - Ran into GSP (who looks pimpin' with the gold) and he said he'll be 100% in a week or two. Â - Chris Clements is going to turn some heads very soon. Very solid chin, capable on the ground and has KO power in both hands. With some more refined standup and another win or two in TKO he'll have other promotions knocking on his door. Â Next show is on June 1st with Goulet/Vigneault for the WW Title scheduled but that could change depending on the Schulte decison.
Hunter's Torn Quad Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestlingobserver.com, the UFC offered Brandon Vera $200,000 guaranteed per fight, with much more if he wins the title and headlines Pay Per Views. Brandon Vera and his camp shot back with a demand of a $1.5 million signing bonus with seven figures guaranteed per fight on a three fight deal, which was the same amount offered by Gary Shaw of Elite XC, as soon as Vera’s contract expires in September. The UFC thought the offer was laughable and turned it down without any thought at all. Gary Shaw did confirm to Meltzer the figures were accurate.  I know it's good business to get the best deal you can, but did Vera really think UFC would match the EXC deal? I like watching Vera fight, but he's not worth a $1.5 million signing bonus, let alone a seven figure per-fight deal. Even the UFC deal is near the high end of what he's worth right now.

Randleman was stripped of his fighters license and fined $5000. He can re-apply to the Athletic Commission in one year and must prove that he's healthy and roid-free. Expect Randleman to announce his retirement soon enough. Alves was fined $5500 and is out for 8 months but nothing happened to his license. Â On a side-note from that Gilbert Yvel was denied a fighters license by the NSAC due to his history of abusing refs, verbally and physically. This kills his scheduled fight with Sergei Kharitonov that was supposed to take place at PRIDE: Second Coming this month in Vegas. No replacement for Gilbert has been announced.

Not sure if Rampage is a dude you want harboring a grudge against you but that would be a good fight no doubt.

He pick his spots, and KO'd Eastman around the same time he KO's all his opponets. Most of Rampage's KO's in PRIDE came around the 7 or 8 min mark of the 1st round.

Â Rumours are now pointing to Vera fighting Jake O'Brien at an event TBD. It'll most likely be a prelim that way if O'Brien does what UFC hopes and pulls it out they can show the fight and if Vera takes it they'll quietly ignore the whole thing.

O'Brien is a big dude as well whereas Brandon could easily be fighting at 205 so Vera will also have to deal with a size disadvantage.

When he gets somebody on the ground, he's absolutely clueless. He's like Koscheck with even less finishing skills. Brandon Vera is a monster striker and a half-decent wrestler himself. As far as the size differential, Vera subbed Assuerio and knocked out Scherner, Eilers, and Frank Mir, all of whom are heavier than Jake O'Brien. The fact that Irish couldn't put away Herring despite ample opportunities doesn't make me confident that he could do a damn thing with Vera even if he could take him down.

I think Shogun taking out Rampage, Rogerio, Overeem and Arona in less then a year bests Chuck's victories over Horn, Randy, Babalu and Tito in the past two. There also needs to be consideration paid to the fact that Shogun was unranked in the top ten before the MW Grand Prix and by the time it was over he was a legit top five 205'er. I think Shogun has also looked better in victory then Chuck, he smashed the fuck out of three of the four opponents he faced and handed Nog his first ever MMA loss. You can also argue that Shogun has faced much tougher competition in his short career whereas Chuck took out a bloated Horn, a past-his-prime Couture and a guy with a dumbshit gameplan in Babalu. People consider the Tito victory impressive but Tito didn't do anything of note before he got his title shot. All of the guys Shogun took out were easily top tenners and in the case of Rogerio and Arona, top fivers. Â If you want to do a point-by-point analysis of their respective disciplines, Shogun is overall the more complete fighter but it's a moot point because Chuck is more or less a kickboxer whereas Shogun can bring it on every level.
