MMA Comments that Don't Warrant a Thread

I get that, but that's the clear #1 vs. #2 fight and after Faber vs. Pulver doubled the best ever rating the WEC ever pulled, they might be looking into it more.

Just so no one gets alarmed - I'm moving this WEC discussion to CTDWAT.

I doubted they would put the fight on free TV... It would problay be made a PPV.

I am trying to remember the Pride in which during the fighter parade, the song played was the mixture of the theme of every fighter on that card. I think it may have been a Shockwave. Anybody knows?

Pretty sure it was Shockwave 2005.

So the Brazillian MMA site Tatame has a posting right now saying that we will be seeing Anderson and Lyoto as Nog's assistant coaches on TUF. If so, GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. They should just team up and take on the entire house AND Mir and his coaches.

File this under abrupt but pretty fucking awesome as Meltzer has been reporting that for their Atlanta show in September UFC wants to have Anderson move up to 205 and fight Chuck.

Wow. Now thats a fight I didn't expect to see. Chuck is going to get KTFO.

Is this the new thing in UFC? Have Anderson Silva destroy everyone Rampage fought? I have no doubt in my mind that Anderson Silva would beat down Rampage.

I thought Anderson already dead the rumors of him moving up to 205... I figured he would want to beat Okami 1st before moving up, since in the past he's expressed how much he wants to avenge that bullshit loss.

Sengoku 3 was last night. Since it's not gonna be airing in the US, I shall hit on small details as I remember them.

Have no memory of the opening fight. That's not good. OH, wait. It was Fabio Silva versus Yoshiki Takahashi. Good fight, actually, with them just winging punches. Silva *KILLED HIM* and then proceeded to try and LEGITIMATELY KILL HIM with a fucking Bloodsport-like stomp, and a face kick. Fabio's not that good, but he's got the intensity of his brother.

Next fight was Damm (I only know that name because it's AWESOME) and Jordav...something. Pretty boring fight until Damm just fucking KILLED the guy with a cross counter, and then proceeded to have the greatest celebration in MMA history. He leaped in the air, flung about, then ran and dove onto his knees like a soccer player, and at the every end before he got to the back, he threw his hands up and screamed out "YEAH~!". Money.

I think the third fight was Marcio "De Pe Pano" Cruz vs. Choi Mu Bai. Not much to this one, just two big guys grappling. Predictably, if you get caught with Cruz, he's going to own you. Choi was eventually caught in this fucking WHACKY sideways triangle into an armbar. Awesome submission.

I am going to results to help me with this...

Fourth fight was Chris Rice vs. Sanae Kikuta. Two things. Rice gets MASSIVE props for being one of the few English speaking MMA fighters with creative balls. He came out in a black robe, a fucking scythe and a blank white mask. It was actually really effective, and vaguely creepy. Sadly, he could not fight in the mask. The other, is Kikuta got him with an armbar, and IMMEDIATELY freaked out because he thought he had hurt Rice and checked on him. Incredibly classy. You don't see that often. He was legitimately scared that he had actually hurt his opponent. Most fighters don't care. So credit to Kikuta.

Final fight before intermission was Michael Costa who gets UNGODLY praise because he came out in suspenders, a fedora, and proceeded to DANCE TO THE RING, against Nick Thomson who just looked angsty and like he had come from the woods. This was a good scrap, back and forth, until Thomson got him with a keylock turned into Kimura which was really nice. I really wanted Costa to win just so he'd dance some more though, sadly.

The only fight to go to a decision also had a questionable decision. Kazuo Misaki and Logan Clark had a good fight, where Misaki won the JD when he probably should have lost. In the end, it doesn't really matter, because both came out looking much better then they went in. Clark is a complete unknown, but he had good striking, and really high aggression. He pressed the fight the entire fifteen minutes and looked really good. Misaki, while he didn't get the big shots, showed alot of maturity as he dealt with the MUCH larger Logan Clark by trying to chop Clark down with low kicks (That started paying off when Clark slowed down later), and became a great out boxer, as he hit and got out, or countered when Clark would charge. In the end, I think Logan should have won the JD, but it was one of those fights that only helps both regardless. Clark should see steady booking in Japan after this fight.

The biggest WTF moment of the year happened in the semi main event as Travis "Mr. No Buys" Wiuff KO'd Kazuyuki Fujita. Out cold. I don't know how this happened. I still can't grasp this. He just nailed Fujita as he charged, and then beat him with methodical hammer blows. I believe this is the first time Fujita has EVER been KO'd, and the man has taken around fifty full force facekicks from Silva, and Fedor's hooks. Yet TRAVIS WIUFF KO'D HIM. At least when Hunt went down, it was due to a body blow. I have no explanation for this one.

As my friend said, I somehow blame Kendo Ka Shin for this.

The main event went about as expected. I really doubt Maurice Smith came to Japan with a thought in his head that he was winning this fight. In this case, it doesn't really matter if they worked this or not. Yoshida was/did going to submit him no matter WHAT they did. As it was, Smith landed some low kicks, got backed in the corner, Yoshida yanked him down with a headlock, and then proceeded to try and rip his head off with a neck crank. Smith had absolutely no hope on the ground with Yoshida.

I tuned out during the post show...4:30, I was done.

Decent/good show overall though.

I finally saw Guida/Aurelio from UFC 74 this past weekend.

Can someone do their best job to explain to me how that was a split decision? When Buffer read the announcement I almost spit out my drink.

Why would Anderson move up to fight a contender and not the champion? Oh that's right, Chuck is still the golden boy.

I don't really want to see this fight, but if it did go down I think Anderson would murder-lize him like every other opponent. Unless the size difference is just too much. Anderson just seems skinny for 205.

The joke amongst me and a friend (and i mean it, joke don't take me seriously) is that Dana wants to do anything in his power to have Silva defeated. Mainly because Silva came in and beat on his golden boy MW champ (rich) and proceeded to beat on everyone else. So he's going to send Chuck after him in an attempt to have him beaten. It's just a crazy wrestling conspiracy. lol

Then again.......Dana does look unhappy everytime he has to put the belt around Silva's waist.....

"There's a million legitimate reasons to dislike Hughes, namely participation statutory rape, forced conversions, infidelity, being a complete arrogant prick, a religious hypocrite, and the fact that he has never once questioned his behaviour.

Accusing him of having an easy ride in his career, however, is not one of them."

From DVD MB

What's the backstory here.......

- The participation in stat rape thing is new to me, could refer to something from his younger days or could be BS.

- Forced conversion I imagine would refer to Hughes pushing religion on fighters in his camp but I've never heard about him actually forcing somebody to convert.

The rest is kinda self-explanatory. I'm surprised they didn't bring up "racist" based on Matt's comments to Din Thomas on TUF 4.

Anderson vs. Chuck would be in hopes of piggybacking Silva off Liddell. Spider is so dominant in the division but is not yet seen by the general public as Randy, Tito, Chuck, GSP, are. Getting a rub off Chuck, and possibly a win given Anderson and Chucks relative styles.

So it looks like the IFL is just about dead in the water. They have a few guys who should find homes immediately.

Matyushenko, Heiron, Horodecki, Roy Nelson, etc.

The fight I want to see most now is Miguel Torres vs. Wagnney Fabiano. Fabiano has looked really impressive the past few times out. I think it'd be awesome.

It was Rudo's wildest MMA dreams come true.

I'm surprised you are able to type and eat bag of dicks at the same time.

As homophobic as Iron Ring's target audience. Fitting.

I was just thinking.... Would anyone like to see an TUF: Comeback 2? I think the idea is very good, especially with the right fighters... Most people disliked that season, but I enjoyed it. Plus if you really think of it, it was very succesful, because it helped resurrect a couple of the fighters careers...

Matt Serra - Went on to become UFC WW Champion of the World

Chris Lytle - Continues to be a capable gatekeeper in the UFC's deepest divison

Din Thomas - Was on his way to a LW title shot until he fucked up his knee in the Florian fight

Rich Clementi - Contender in the LW divison

Patrick Cote - On the path to a Middleweight title shot

Jorge Rivera - Middleweight gatekeeper, post a few good W's since the season was over

Scott Smith - Having a very succesful career in the Elite XC

Travis Lutter - Was consider a legit threat in the MW divison, but as always he underachieve... Still gave Anderson his toughest fight in the UFC so far.

So looking back TUF 4 was pretty succesful in that sense, I'd be interested to see the fighters they would bring...

Din is coming off a serious knee injury... And the problem with Din is never his skills. Skill-wise, he's top 5 in the world at LW... Championship caliber no question, but it's where he is at mentally. I like how you brought up the Neer fight, but failed to mention that after TUF, he went on to win 3 straight against 3 very good fighters in Clementi, Jeremy Stephens, and of course your favorite man crush Clay Guida. He was easily in contention of a title shot, but then that freak accident with Florian happend... Who knows if he will ever be the same again.

Rich Clementi - Contender in the LW divison <----- Not really

3 straight W's in the LW divison, most likely will get a chance a contender in his next fight... He deserves it.

Patrick Cote - On the path to a Middleweight title shot <---- About to get tapped by Big Dog

Remains to be seen, at this point in time... He is on the path to a middleweight title shot... Quit trying to be a smart ass.

Scott Smith - Having a very succesful career in the Elite XC <---- One win and one NC = succesful?

Co-main eventing a big primetime card on CBS, and fighting for a title = succesful...

Smith was the only MW at the time that could challenge Lawler, it's not like he was working his way through the ranks with multiple fights. That's called lack of options, not success.
