Hawkius Maximus 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 Michael Bisping can sell out a UK show pretty much on his own now. Chris Leben will provide soundbites of him talking shit about Bisping, and possibly the UK. People will want to see Leben die, and stylistically, it's an interesting fight. Bisping's never really fought someone so tough. Leben and his "Zombie-fu" has upped his ability to take damage and come back from it significantly. Leben I would assume has more power, but he has to connect first, and on the ground who knows. This fight won't mean a goddamn thing in the US, but in the UK? I can see them eating it up. Bisping alone is the attraction. Who he faces is just icing now.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 Not disputing how this fares from a UK standpoint but this better have a seriously stacked undercard because that main event won't appeal to most casual North American fans. And speaking of that fight, I'd love to hear how Bisping plans on winning it. The only thing I see him having on Leben is quickness, other then that Chris has the better wrestling, striking, grappling and chin.

Bisping looks like a much better techncial striker...
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 UFC 72 with Franklin/Okami...78 with Bisping/Evans...and 85 with Hughes/Alves... I could see Leben and Bisping main event. With TUF holding up titles the UFC is putting some lackluster main events together.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 Okay, not technically sound but Leben packs more power and, unlike Bisping, can actually KO people with his shots.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 Okay, not technically sound but Leben packs more power and, unlike Bisping, can actually KO people with his shots. Bisping has power at 185 as well as proven... The only way I see Leben winning is by out grappling Bisping, but Bisping usually finds ways to get back to his feet. He's a lot more stronger fighter at 185... I think it's going to be a close fight.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 What power? I was close enough in Montreal to see him unload bomb after bomb on McCarthy that did nothing. He can strike fine but the only time I've ever actually seen him pull off a standing KO is against Kristian Rothermael on TUF3, other then that it takes an accumulation of strikes. Another question mark here is Bisping's chin as he's never been put up against somebody with Leben's power.
Hawkius Maximus 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 Bisping doesn't have power, but he creates power through the speed in which he strikes. There's very few people in UFC, or the world, that strike as fast as he does with the mix he does. He goes from hooks, to uppercuts, to flying knees with little difficulty. The sheer number of shots overwhelms people until they collapse. That's happened in both his recent fights. He has just enough power to stun, and when their stunned, he kills. Bisping's gameplan will be simple against Leben. He'll stay out of the pocket, and nail Leben when a chance opens. Logically speaking, for every one shot Leben will land, Bisping will land three or four. Even Leben's willpower to stay up should eventually crack, if only because he'll mentally go "I'M BEING PUNCHED. ALOT. THIS SUCKS". Bisping's striking may be near Silva's quality in terms of fluidity, form, and quickness. He just doesn't have Silva's power. and I think Leben/Bisping will do good in the US as the main. Rashad/Bisping did surprising. Leben's as known, if not more so, and far more charismatic. And with those two, I could see it turning into legitimate dislike. Dislike = Money. Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 "Bisping's striking may be near Silva's quality in terms of fluidity, form, and quickness. He just doesn't have Silva's power." Okay, the only correct part of that sentance was you saying he doesn't have Silva's power.
Hawkius Maximus 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2008 You have been paying attention to Bisping's 185 fight's right? Bisping is twice as fast as he was at LHW, and his striking is as crisp as anyone in that division beyond Silva. He doesn't throw huge shots because he doesn't have to. All of his hits are compact and controlled. Bisping's striking is textbook, just chained together at high speeds. There isn't anyone else, at the very least in UFC, that is as good as Bisping as at doing that aside from Silva. I've seen K-1 fighters who can't chain together like Bisping can. And further, we really don't know how Bisping would do in a full on stand up fight. He should have lost to Hamill, but that was more or less Hamill dirty boxing and over powering him. Leben, if he's smart will aim to take Bisping down (Leben is not smart), while Silva would strike with him. *I'D* be interested in seeing how that goes. Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2008 You honestly think Leben is a better grappler than Bisping? Wrestling is one thing, but Bisping is much more fluid on the mat, both offensively and defensively.
AboveAverage484 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2008 Wow, Thomson beat Melendez quite decisively last night. Shakes up the LW standings one would think.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2008 Wow, Thomson beat Melendez quite decisively last night. Shakes up the LW standings one would think. Yeah what an upset... And I don't think LOTC has seen any of Bispings fights at 185...
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2008 You are absolutely right. I mean, it's not like I was there live for any of them.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2008 Well considering you think Bisping basically stands no chance against Chris Leben, I think you were problay at the Bell Centre washroom for the whole Bisping/McCarthy fight.
Tawren 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2008 I bought a 3-month subscription to the online Wrestling Observer and was reading through some of the early June Observers. In his results for Hughes/Alves at UFC 85, Meltzer remarks about how Alves won with a shining wizard and then cut a copycat promo. I really hate his MMA reporting. Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 Looks like the Kharitonov fight was a bust and Justin Eiler will be facing Bigfoot Silva for the EliteXC HW title.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 Justin fucking Eilers? What a FUCKING joke... You mean to tell me they couldn't find any better then JUSTIN EILERS?
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 Well, seeing as how most of the HW's in the world are either booked for the Affliction show or under contract to Daddy Warbucks......not really, no. Elite's only option was to hotshot somebody like Pee Wee or Brett Rogers into the spot and they seem to have plans for both of them.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 SILVA IS DUCKING WES SIMS~!
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 Sims likely can't compete due to the submission loss to Steve Bosse at the TKO show a month ago. Also, the shame of tapping out to Steve F'n Bosse should be so great that Sims doesn't show his face in public for a while. I have no doubt that if said medical issue wasn't around we'd be seeing Sims vs Bigfoot.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 Congrats to GSP for being the only MMA competitor to be included in the Best Fighter award at the ESPY's. GSP will be beating out Floyd Mayweather, Kelly Pavlik, Holly Holm and Joe Calzaghe for said award.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 So, looks like the Franklin to 205 rumors are legit and he's taking on Matt Hamill at UFC 88 in Atlanta. Hmmmmm. Don't really know what to make of that one.
Mik 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 I like that matchup. Matt has come a long way, seemingly, since TUF3 and that fight might be a lot more even than people think. Since Rich is a small LHW, Matt might be able to take him down and impose his will. If it stays on the feet though, Rich will murder him. Matt's gotten to be a better striker but he's still not on Rich's level. As for the move up - he's got to. Even if he wins 10 fights in a row at MW no one wants to see him get another title shot.
