Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2008 Japan notes from last night... - Sergey Golyaev took a split decision victory over Takanori Gomi that many are saying Gomi shoud've easily won. This totally fucks up Sengoku's plans on having the winner of their LW tourney take on Gomi on NYE - Speaking of the winner it was Satoru Kitaoka as he heel hooked Eji Mitsuoka in rapid fashion to win - Jorge Santiago continues his hot streak by heel hooking Siyar Bahadurzada and TKO'ing Kazuhiro Nakamura to win the MW tourney and thus has earned himself a shot against Kazuo Misaki on NYE for the Sengoku MW champion. - Other Nog wins. Doerkson wins. King Mo wins.
BruteSquad_BRODY 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2008 Is "King Mo" the former "Mighty Mo" of K1?
Hawkius Maximus 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2008 Sengoku was...alright. It was incredibly boring until about halfway through. The Gomi fight is an oddity. I got into an argument with a friend over it. Gomi wasn't NEARLY aggressive enough, but every time he did try to throw bombs, the guy used good evasion to get away. Gomi would have had the fight won, but the guy landed a lucky jab that landed right on the button with Gomi's forward momentium with a punch and he was rocked. The guy's inexperience was pretty evident, as he was scared to rush in to finish Gomi but Gomi was *done*. He also seemed to tweak his knee, as through the third round he was clearly slower. Gomi had problems with the guy's range and probably didn't train enough, but I didn't see it being a factor. He would have gassed had he not trained well. Had Gomi been more aggressive, he probably would have won easily but I don't buy it as being that simple. The guy had a clear speed advantage that he was using with movement. You don't really beat speed by running at them and throwing full force. That lucky jab showed why. But then again, throughout the entire event I thought Eiji Mitsuoka had won the fight with Kitaoka. So I was clearly in another realm of mental thought. Speaking of Kitaoka, he impressed me. He's alot like Aokl in that he's CLEARLY one-sided in his game, but damned if that one side isn't really good. He's also got decent standup with power. His opponent in the finals had the strategy of RUNNING to the ropes everytime Kitaoka shooted to get the ref to break them up. A cheap strategy, but it worked. King Mo is awesome. And no he's not Mighty Mo. Picture a charismatic black man with a good athletic build, who comes out wearing a crown, a robe, and a sceptor who has Japanese women following him who also dances. And has pretty goddamn scary G&P. Fabio Silva had no answer for Mo's takedowns and the beating he was giving him. It was like a low-rent Fedor, in that he was just PUMMELLING him until he finally nailed Silva good and finished him. He then had a dance party in the aisleway. Awesome man. Japanese promotions need to cut it out with the twelve fight cards, or whatever insane number this was. I don't even remember any other fights that weren't tournament ones, and I know they were there.
Hawkius Maximus 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2008 I just remembered. I have to say this. Lil' Nog proved he's not an elite LHW last night. It's not that his opponent was bad. He had pretty good stand up from what I saw, but he was one dimensional. A BJJ expert like Nog should have easily been able to stop him, but instead Lil' Nog was gunshy the entire fight. The stream I was on had issues, but from what I saw he just...wasn't engaging. I cut the joke that he was scared due to the last time he fought a black striker. It actually seemed like it the more the fight went on. Against all the other top LHW's in UFC, Lil'Nog probably would do no better then taking them to a decision. He didn't show anything, really. Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2008 Kitaoka's going to end his career with an extremely awkward resume, as he has already and will continue to beat some pretty good fighters, but will also end up dropping his fair share of losses to otherwise middling competition. The fact that he'll probably never beat Inoue is fucking hysterical. Also, it's nice to see someone finally agreeing to the fact that Minotoro ain't that good, as I was calling it since Matyushenko roughed him up years ago. There was a slight scare when he actually managed to beat Henderson & Overeem twice, but I think time has put both wins in perspective a bit more.

Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2008 I heard the Masvidal and GOmi decisions were horrible on the forums, but on all the news sites they don't mention any kind of controversy at all. Anybody here who saw it would be able to clarify?
Hawkius Maximus 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 I did earlier. On Gomi anyway. Dude won the fight pretty clearly. Gomi was winning until he got nailed with a jab as he was swinging in. He went down, and had the guy shown any killer instinct, would have been easily finished. Instead, the guy was scared and allowed Gomi to recover. But make no mistake, Gomi was done. It was the closest anyone got to winning the fight (Gomi had two sub attempts, but the guy basically locked down on the limbs with everything he had to defend) so he won. Other then that, Gomi had it won, but not by a significant margin. You've got to remember. Rounds mean nothing. It's who comes close to winning that matters. The guy won fair. starvenger 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 MMA Junkie/5oz is reporting that Dennis Kang has signed with the UFC. No word on his buddy Kodos.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 This is good news for the MW division but I think Akiyama and Mousasi kinda took a lot of the shine off Denis. Regardless I imagine he'll get matched up against a mid-level guy to start off with and move on to guys like Nate, Hendo or Franklin before long.
Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 Recent main eventer tests positive, out 9 months Chris Leben tested positive for Stanazolol in a test administered by UFC on the day of his fight with Michael Bisping on 10/18 in Birmingham, England. Leben, who lost a three-round decision, has been suspended for nine months by UFC and fined one-third of his undisclosed purse. When informed of his positive test, Leben admitted using the drug but said it was months back and thought it would have cleared his system. Leben is the second fighter to fail a UFC administered drug test as opposed to an athletic commission test. The UFC shows in the U.K. are not governed by an athletic commission, so Marc Ratner, the company's Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, who had years of experience as the head of the Nevada commission, oversees the event, doing many of the jobs that an athletic commission would do. F4W As someone who hasn't seen any Dennis Kang fights, can someone give me a thumbnail description of what I can expect?
Hawkius Maximus 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 It always amuses me when it's the LOSING fighter that fails the drug test. I mean, talk about feeling stupid. It didn't help you win, and then hurt your career significantly.
