Mik 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2008 I wonder what's going to become of The Athlete. It's pretty clear he's one of the better MWs, but he can't get past Franklin and Silva would crush him. If he doesn't improve enough to be a legit contender, he'd be a pretty good gatekeeper. Hopefully he can string together another winning streak though. Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2008 Hey YPOV, two questions....... 1) Is the blonde chick that GSP gave a peck on the cheek to after beating Hughes his current lady? 2) Read an interview where GSP says amongst the other "personal issues" before the Serra fight that the government was going after him. What's the deal?
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2008 Oh, and GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2008 I don't know Georges personally so I don't know who that lady is, but I'm pretty sure he doesn't have a current lady, and that he just likes to have fun. He used to have a crazy batshit insane(not in a good way) girlfriend, but that ended awhile ago, like a couple of years back. I have no idea about the government thing, but a lot of the excuses he gave about training was crap. He blamed it on poor training places but the reality was that he just had family issues that caused him to miss training. This government thing could be along those lines. What's up with this Couture North btw? I might be in Toronto for the summer so I might go train there for a few months. I know Couture's gyms are normally crazy expensive, and a lot of times these new gyms that boast all these great trainers tend to not pan out in delivering because they might come once in awhile while students tend to do most of the teaching. That might not be the case here, because of the name value that comes with a Couture gym, but it wouldn't surprise me if say, Hominick came a couple of times then never really showed up again. I helped that Bocek student guy by having a worked fight on display at this drag show in the summer to promote a new gym he was involved in. If he's really gonna be working with Randy, what happened to that one? Did he just get up and leave? How is he gonna divide his time between all the gyms and actually show up when he's supposed to? It's not uncommon for these guys to state their involvement with something only to half-ass it. I'm skeptical, but then again that's just my nature. At the end of the day, sparring partners are most important, and if good guys go to this gym then that's all that matters really.
Mik 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2008 My first reaction was that was GSP's mom, but then again that was just what popped in my head. She looked too old to be his lady.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2008 GSP/Sera J-Mac/Dirte Alves/Karo Bocek/Danzig Joslin vs TBA Goulet vs TBA Franklin vs Lutter Stout vs TBA GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO indeed. Dream opponents are the following: Stout vs Huerta, Joslin vs Marcus Davis, Goulet vs Somebody with striking power.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2008 So I'm going to see Lil Nog fight Todd Gouwenberg on Feburary 1st, here in Calgary. John Alessio, Cyborg Santos, and Mike Pyle are suppose to be on the card. Randy Couture is suppose to be in attendence for the card as well.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2008 Alessio is off the card.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2008 Alessio is off the card. Oh well, I'm mostly paying to go see Lil Nog, or maybe getting a chance to meet Randy.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2008 Ask Randy if Xtreme Couture North is hiring. I need out of my current job and would take a decent paycut to work there.
Mik 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2008 I read on one of the blogs last week, I think MMAJunkie, that Joslin is off the Montreal card.

Mik 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2008 Tamdan McCrory isn't fighting again until he finishes college in May. I know I'm the only one who really cares, but I still think he can be a beast at 170 in a few years.

At the end of the day, sparring partners are most important, and if good guys go to this gym then that's all that matters really. That's my general feeling on XCN. Mindyou, Geris has been working on this for a while, but it seems like too many divided loyalties. I doubt Joslin will put the club before his, and at the end of the day Tompkins can reign his guys in whenever he wants. Also, the student base is going to be an interesting one, as it will likely attract a lot of people for the name alone, and who will ultimately end up vanishing at the end of their term. It seems like a Legends Gym scenario, where it starts off with lots of names attached and at the end of the day when the people who go there for the names realize that they don't get to roll with those names and instead take instructions from guys who they don't know, they'll end up leaving. The money won't be what everyone thinks and those in it for the money will leave. Since it's a franchise, Couture and Co will end up taking a percentage of whatever is made, as well. To me, it seems too much like a money grab to work. The gyms that have longevity are ones that started from nothing and grew from there. The ones that rely on the owner's and trainers passion are the ones that tend to build a more loyal student base. I would imagine GSP's problems with the Government would be financial, and most likely dealing with the tax man, given how the UFC pays their fighters. Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2008 Roan Carneiro joins American Top Team... It's very interesting to see all these Brazilian fighters move up to America to train at elite level training camps. Most of them are all going to American Top Team. I guess the training equipment and facilities in America are a lot better then Brazil.

Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2008 I got this from the junkie... Shaw downplayed his recent war of words with Dana White but again challenged the UFC president to match his best fighters with EliteXC’s best with winner-takes-all fights. He even offered to put up $1 million for it. Shaw also insisted that EliteXC heavyweight Antonio Silva could defeat “any heavyweight currently in the UFC.“ AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA What a tard.
