MMA Comments that Don't Warrant a Thread

Herman got tapped by MacDonald, allowed Scott Smith of all people to try and get a kneebar on him and was saved by the bell against Doerkson. No reason Maia can't take this but I also like Ed so if he wins it's cool.

You know, that's a pretty sweet UFN. I'd pay to watch Karo/Alves and KenFlo/Lauzon and I'd be satisfied with a Bonnar/Hamill free main event, maybe. All three on one free card? That's nice.

Fabricio Werdum is your #1 contender for the heavyweight championship, according to Dana. Impressive win over Napao, sure, but he looked so bad against Andrei. I don't think he's earned it yet.

Kongo at least looks decent in victory. Aside from totally exposing Aleksander, Werdum's biggest wins have come with first round performances that make Gono look like the Tazmanian Devil.

I'd say they are covering their bases with Werdum. If Sylvia or Nog wins, they get a challenger they would be heavily favoured against. I imagine they want Kongo as their champ, so if he was announced as number 1 and Nog won, he'd be f'd in the A. Arlovski vs. Sylvia 4 is a fight no one wants to see after their third bout, so if he were announced and Sylvia won, Zuffa would be f'd in the A. Natch, the best option would be not announcing a contender at all.

The heavyweight division has a number of possible fights. With Kongo, Hardonk, and Sanchez winning recently, they have some bangers they could throw against each other, as well as against their established hw's in AA and big Tim, with little possibility of shitty grappling. Then there's Vera as an X factor. It's a pretty good division for fantasy booking, albeit with mediocre fighters.

You also have to think that out of Lesnar and Shane Carwin (who looks like an absolute beast and CUTS to heavyweight)... there will also be some new blood in the title hunt by let's say end 2009.

from mmajunkie.com

UFC light heavyweight Tito Ortiz today confirmed that he has reluctantly accepted a May 24 fight with Lyoto Machida — while also saying it’ll likely be his final fight in the UFC.

The highly publicized interview took place this afternoon on Fight Network Radio.

Ortiz said he accepted the UFC 85 fight with Machida, but that he was “expecting a bigger fight,” such as a rematch with Rashad Evans. Ortiz and Evans fought to a disappointing draw back at UFC 71. If it weren’t for a costly one-point deduction issued to Ortiz for repeatedly grabbing the fence to avoid takedowns, Ortiz would have earned the unanimous-decision victory.

With the rematch apparently not on the table, Ortiz said he accepted the Machida fight and that he’s “just looking to get my final fight over with the UFC.“

Ortiz has one fight left on his current deal, and he’s been working toward a new one for more than six months. However, even bypassing UFC President Dana White and working directly with UFC co-owner Fertitta brought no resolution.

“They said I wasn’t worth the money, I was worth no more than what I’m getting paid now, and I’m not a commodity to them anymore — I’m not as viable to them anymore,” Ortiz said. “That was a sign of disrespect.“

Ortiz earned $210,000 for both his UFC 73 and UFC 66 fights.

Ortiz also reasoned he should leave the UFC because, with White running the show, he’ll never get a title shot again.

Without an extension in sight, Ortiz will likely hit the free-agent market — where suitors such as M-1 Global, HDNet Fights, EliteXC and Strikeforce will likely be waiting.

“UFC is caring so much about the brand itself,” Ortiz said. “They could care less about the fighters. Fighters are a dime a dozen. They’ll keep coming. Dana is really out for himself and the company. He doesn’t give a sh** about the fighters.“

---

Really...Tito's bitching about not getting another title shot? If you look at his last 9 fights the record looks good on paper. 6-3-1. But his last three title matches, all with Randy and Chuck he beaten like a bitch. His wins lately have been over an uninspired Vitor, a decision over Cote who's a true middleweight, an over the hill Shamrock, a draw with Rashad, and a questionable win over Forrest. Dude is so far away from deserving a title fight. Keep in mind he can't put anyone away anymore. I say Machida rips him apart

Though Meltzer denied any Shogun Montreal bookings, on the Canadian UG a guy affiliated with Shoguns new group "Universidade da Luta" and Mauricio Veio said the following in regards to Veio continuing to teach at Toronto BJJ:

"In April Mauricio will be back to corner Shogun in Montreal, and then will continue teaching at TBJJ through June and possibly longer. At that time his brother Dida will be here as will Shogun and Ninja. Should be some decent training and a great learning experience for the students at Toronto BJJ."

HOPE~!

I think Forrest should have won but I do see how it went to Tito.

I don't see how anyone can give the fight to Forrest... He won the 2nd round only... 1st Round was all Tito, and you could argue it was a 10-8 round. 3rd Round, was clearly Tito's round as well. He outboxed Forrest pretty much the whole round and took him down to secure the round.

Just because Joe Rogan is a faggot and likes to pick favorites doesn't mean he's always right.

Yeah, seriously. Maybe one in ten punches he threw actually connected. The third has some of the more biased commentary in recent UFC memory and Bonnar being there to cheer on Forrest doesn't help.

Got the new issue of Fight! today with Brock Lesnar on the cover. He's wearing blue/white Warrior wear shorts in his promo pic if anyone is interested in that sort of thing.

There's also a feature on the Diaz brothers which I haven't read yet and a smoking hot pictorial of Ariany Celeste.

They just switched from bi-monthly to monthly so I'll recommend the mag again to anyone who may be interested.

Any chance Thiago Tavares loses on the next UFC show? He's 12-1, facing a 4-5 guy, both coming off of losses.

If Thiago Tavares gets upset, i can make 9 times whatever i bet on his opponent.

I think that Tito is actually a bad matchup for Lyoto, I can imagine Tito taking down Lyoto and landing elbows from Lyoto's guard for 3 rounds. If Lyoto can't stuff Tito's takedowns, he's fucked.

I agree. But what exactly is Tito trying to prove here. He's claiming they aren't paying him enough but he makes more than 95% of the roster. I can only think of very few that make more than he does, which I believe is $210k a fight. I'm not sure he's worth Chuck Liddell money. He just wants to bail on the UFC so he might not show up 100% for the fight. I think Machida would be a great title contender so I'm hoping he can beat Tito.

Karo on Tagg radio:

“Their camp is talking crap,” Parisyan said. “I have respect for Jon Fitch as a person. I have never seen him be cocky. He’s a very humble guy. He’s a great athlete. But everybody thinks I’ve been dodging Jon Fitch. That’s never f***ing happened at all. I have never been called on the phone, and never been offered to fight Jon Fitch.“

And while Parisyan stood firm in his denial of any knowledge of an offer to fight Fitch, he did admit to requesting an opponent other than Fitch.

“You have to understand,” Parisyan said, “that I was offered a title fight for sure, so I said, ‘You know what? I’ll get an opponent that I have a higher percentage of beating.’ I still think I can beat Jon Fitch. But still, the reality is, it’s still a tougher fight.“

As for a potential future match-up with Fitch, Parisyan insisted he would accept the fight.

“In my mind, if they offer me, I can’t say no,” Parisyan said. “There’s no way I’m going to say no if I get an offer.“
