The one (and only!) Raw thread for 16/6/2008

Recommended Posts

On Monday night, Raw will make itself at home in Salt Lake City, as WWE Champion Triple H and John Cena continue to circle one another like junkyard dogs, spoiling for their title match at Night of Champions. This week, Cena will face Umaga in a Street Fight. Surely The Game will be watching as his Night of Champions opponent meets the Samoan Bulldozer on Raw.

Just two weeks ago, Cena defeated Jeff Hardy to become the No. 1 contender. Last week saw Triple H sweep Cena’s legs out from under him after the Chain Gang Commander’s victory over JBL. Then, in the night’s main event between The Game and Jeff Hardy, Cena interfered, causing Triple H to lose by count-out. With less than two weeks before Night of Champions, will anything keep these two fierce competitors from annihilating one another? Will Cena's Street Fight with Umaga affect his strategy going into Night of Champions?

An appearance by Shawn Michaels on Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho’s Highlight Reel quickly turned ugly when Y2J attacked The Showstopper. Their rivalry had been building for the past few weeks as Jericho alternately accused HBK of faking an injury and then encouraged him in a match against Batista. What is the purpose of the mind games that the Intercontinental Champion is playing with Michaels, and how will Michaels react to being attacked last Monday night?

Also last week, World Tag Team Champions Hardcore Holly & Cody Rhodes suffered their second defeat in a row, this time at the hands of Umaga & Snitsky. While recovering after the match, the champs were again confronted by Raw’s newest Superstar, Ted DiBiase. The “simply priceless” DiBiase warned them that at Night of Champions, he and a partner of his choosing will prevail over the World Tag Team Champions. With the ongoing strife between Holly & Rhodes, will they be able to stand up to DiBiase and his mystery partner? And who will that partner turn out to be?

As temperatures run high on Raw, surely in the back of all the Superstars’ minds are thoughts of the impending WWE Draft. In less than two weeks, all Superstars from all brands will be eligible to be drafted to another show. Who will get selected to leave Raw and which of your favorite Superstars will begin appearing on Monday nights?

But, your biggest reason to tune into Raw this week is no doubt the continuation of McMahon’s Million Dollar Mania. The reports are all true: Mr. McMahon is giving away his own money. Just last week he gave away a cool $1 million, and he’s promised to do it all again this week. To get your share, all you have to do is register at WWE.com and tune in.

Discuss!

Thank god for Jericho and Michaels because this show has been absolutely brutal lately.

Even that was mostly ineffective last week for me with Jericho completely unable to overpower a "bruised and battered" Shawn Michaels without a low blow. Yeah the ending image was cool but the stuff leading up to it was pretty eh for me. Hopefully it improves this week and keeps getting better.

Everything else though, christ it's brutal. The McMahon money stuff was just a drag. Didn't help that the three big winners all sounded like the same exact guy.

The lack of Michaels blading because of WWE's new "kiddie image" direction kind of hurt the segment too.

okay, I forgot to mention that McMahon getting Rick Rolled was a definite highlight...oh and giving a chick $2 was classic. Other than that, this money give away thing is taking up way too much time.

Him not even realizing it was an answer tone showed how hip and with the times Vince is making it even 100 times better. The chick thing was coldly nice.

But a giveaway after EVERY match? God, that is overkill.

WWE is confusing me with this feud. First it's Michaels/Batista with Jericho being the shit stirrer. Then Michaels/Jericho @ Judgment Day. Then they go back to Michaels/Batista for One Night Stand. And now it's a huge feud between Michaels & Jericho again? What the hell is going on? And what the hell was the deal with Jericho not hitting JBL with the chair a few weeks ago on Raw? Seemed like they were gonna start up a feud again. I mean I know this might be stating the obvious, but it seems like WWE has no idea what feud to go with here.

Perhaps we should see how it pans out before we judge it.

Sure we've seen it before and we know who's going over, but a Cena-Umaga street fight should be one of the best free tv matches this year.

I bet Stephanie and her band of hack writers love this money giveaway shit the most. They get to put in even less of an effort into the program than usual.

That was a JN-esque post right there.

I think I read something that they will try to balance out the giveaway stuff with more wrestling

Better yet, have two callers compete for the prize. Get them to choose a Diva to represent them each to run an obstacle course. Have Adamle call it American Gladiators style. Less wrestling that way!

Am I the only one who is continually perplexed at WWE jobbing guys out on a show before trading them to another? Do they not realize that Raw and SD aren't different promotions or anything and that jobbing guys out only hurts their perceived value in their OWN promotion? I bet they trade Umaga to SD and then act shocked when he has zero heat from jobbing out on Raw for the last 6 months.

So, the concensus here is nobody likes the money giveaways...do you guys still enter in it though?

Cause hell I did, it might be boring but if Vince wants to ring me and give me 50 grand, why not.

I don't think WWE can't legally do a "If Wrestler A beats Wrestler B" you win the money thing. Just because it would be rigged and they would know the end result of the match ahead of time.

No because someone losing to someone doesn't really mean anything anymore and can easily be built back up as a monster somewhere else and it's not like Umaga is losing to say Val Venis. He's losing (if he does lose) to the #1 contender to the WWE championship. What do you think is wiser..having the person whose going to main event your next pay per view losing or having someone who doesn't even have a match on that show losing?

Besides, when are people going to learn? it's not about who wins or loses that matters, it's how the match is worked.

To be fair, they already know who they're calling ahead of time, apparantly.

If anyone in the UK is watching WWE Vintage Collection which is on before Raw, there's what seems like a 30 minute+ match between Bret Hart and Bad News on.

25 minutes in now.

Edit: Time limit draw.

Good little match actually.

Have they announced what the code word is yet?

And anyone who can't see the live verison has to check out WWE.com to get the word once the show starts up.

I remember where I was when Shawn lost his smile.

I remember where I was when Rock-a-Billy debuted (well because I was there).

I remember when HHH raped the "corpse" of Katie Vick.
