EVIL~! alkeiper Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 The Richie Sexson signing indicates to me that Shelley Duncan's shoulder injury is season ending. It's funny that I've heard no news of that. Eric Milton is a AAA Yankee? Dear lord.
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 The scrap heap continues to pile up. Morgan Ensberg (who was mercifully DFA'd after being the starting 3B during A-Rod's DL stint), Jason Lane (spent the entire season at AAA so far), Sidney Ponson Round II (who's been good in 2 of 3 starts), and now Eric Milton and Richie Sexson. While I'm at it, LaTroy Hawkins and Chad Moeller are wastes of roster spots. Sexson has potential because he's hitting lefties and the Yankees haven't been. Maybe they get lucky. It's not costing them anything, so they have that going for them.
strummer Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 Joe Blanton has been traded to the Phillies
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 Hideo Nomo retired. So the Yankees probably won't be signing him.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 Joe Blanton has been traded to the Phillies Source?
milliondollarchamp Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 Joe Blanton has been traded to the Phillies Source? it was just on espn news
the pinjockey Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 Cardenas has been rumored to have been taken out of the Clearwater lineup.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 Joe Blanton has been traded to the Phillies Source? it was just on espn news Anyone know the players going to Oakland?
milliondollarchamp Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 The Athletics get second baseman Adrian Cardenas, pitcher Josh Outman and outfielder Matthew Spencer, all minor leaguers. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3494315
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 Let's see. Jason Donald, Greg Golson and Lou Marson are still in Reading's lineup. Cardenas would suck. Not that he's untouchable, but he could have attracted a better pitcher, IMO. Edit: Outman too? Jeez, I hope the Phillies have a good supply of lube.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 Gah! Seriously, Adrian Cardenas? For Joe F'n Blanton?
the pinjockey Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 I guess that also means the end of Happ's chances to pitch with the big club unless Myers still shits the bed upon his return. Is Blanton really going to be that much/any better than Happ would have been? If they were going to give up that package for Blanton they really should have just gone ahead and shot their wad for Harden. Would cost more (maybe not that much, though), but at least you get quality in return.
milliondollarchamp Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 WIP in Philly are saying that the Phillies and Rockies have "exchanged calls" about Matt Holliday. Nothing imminent, no rumored offers, just an exchange of calls.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 WIP in Philly are saying that the Phillies and Rockies have "exchanged calls" about Matt Holliday. Nothing imminent, no rumored offers, just an exchange of calls. That seems like a dead end. Phils have no holes in the outfield, unless their intent is to ditch Burrell after the season.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 I worked out the Phils' new top ten prospects. 1. Carlos Carrasco, RHP 2. Lou Marson, C 3. Kyle Drabek, RHP 4. Joe Savery, LHP 5. Dominic Brown, OF 6. Jason Donald, SS/IF 7. Greg Golson, OF 8. Travis D'Arnaud, C 9. Edgar Garcia, RHP 10. Freddy Galvis, SS Just missed: J.A. Happ, LHP; Drew Naylor, RHP; Antonio Bastardo, LHP; Andrew Carpenter, RHP
NYU Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 Okay, so Johan Santana giving up five runs to Cincinnati and being taken out after the fourth inning is just....not acceptable. Yeesh.
Bored Posted July 18, 2008 Author Report Posted July 18, 2008 Hey that takes the sting off the questionable return they received for Harden. Blanton does have good long term value simply because he's very durable but he's yet to put two good years together in a row at this point. The Cardenas addition is interesting when you consider that they just drafted Jemile Weeks, in what most think was an overdraft at #12, so one of them is going to have to change positions. It's expected Gio Gonzalez, who they got in the Swisher trade, will be called up to take Blanton's spot in the rotation.
MFer Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 I know that Bonds is a pariah at this point, but he's gotta be better than some of these players being picked up by contenders, no?
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 I know that Bonds is a pariah at this point, but he's gotta be better than some of these players being picked up by contenders, no? Not if you're looking for pitching, which all of the major deals have involved.
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 I worked out the Phils' new top ten prospects. 3. Kyle Drabek, RHP Doug's son?
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 I worked out the Phils' new top ten prospects. 3. Kyle Drabek, RHP Doug's son? Yes. He's out with Tommy John surgery, but set to return soon.

Not if you're looking for pitching, which all of the major deals have involved. I think he's referring more to Richie Sexson and Tony Clark.
Dandy Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 Got to love the 5 straight hits Cordero has given up to blow the 2 run lead and put the Mets in the driver's seat. Fuck. Edit---Oops, 6.
NYU Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 Ten game winning streak and now tied for first place with Philly. I'm excited. Against all my best judgment.
jimmy no nose Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 I love Coors Field. Chris Iannetta broke his bat today and had the ball end up about 15 rows deep.
naiwf Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 It's almost like the Mets remembered how to play all of a sudden. If Johan or Pedro ever give us anything this team will be a factor in September.
strummer Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 Johan Santana was barely breaking 90 MPH tonight. He's clearly hiding an injury
CanadianChris Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 I know that Bonds is a pariah at this point, but he's gotta be better than some of these players being picked up by contenders, no? Not if you're looking for pitching, which all of the major deals have involved. I think he's referring more to Richie Sexson and Tony Clark. Bonds is nothing more than a DH at this point, so he for sure wouldn't have gone to Arizona, and if he went to New York, they'd have to have Giambi in the field every day. He's not a great fit in either place.
Mike wanna be Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 Johan Santana was barely breaking 90 MPH tonight. He's clearly hiding an injury He was barely breaking 90 against the Giants in the five-inning rainout. Let's hope you're lying. It's like somebody was honest with the team. "Minaya's ass is out the door if we miss the playoffs, and you all are Minaya's boys. He leaves, you don't get the preferential treatment you'd get if he stays. Might want to start winning ballgames."
