luke-o 0 Report post Posted August 2, 2008 Austin Powers is awesome. If only for "I'm going to the shops to buy you some orange sheerrbert." The 2nd one was cool, but the 3rd one was a bit crap. It just got stupid by the end of it with everyone being related to everyone else. Waynes World 1 and 2 are both fantastic. I love both of them. Austin Powers 4 screams desparity to make some benjamians.
strummer 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2008 I could see why people don't like Waynes World 2. Due to the rush job there is essentially no plot (or at the very least a rehash of the original one). There are several scenes that don't lead anywhere and are essentially set pieces to get laughs unrelated to the story.....but it made me laugh just a little bit harder than the first movie. The first is clearly a better made movie but I like the second one just a bit more
Guest Cal Moriarty Report post Posted August 3, 2008 every Austin Powers movie thus far has been far superior to Wayne's World when stating that WW3 would be easier to look forward to. Oh fuck no. This isn't true. Wayne's World is great. Everyone around my age can probably recite the script from memory. Not one of the Austin Powers movies is better. I wouldn't put Wayne's World up there with the Marx Brothers films, that's silly, but it is very very good.

The first is clearly a better made movie but I like the second one just a bit more The haphazard, slapped together feel is one of the main reasons I really enjoy Wayne's World 2. I could understand some being annoyed by it but it's so blatant that they're just throwing shit at the wall and seeing if it sticks that I can't help but enjoy it. Anyways I don't want to see anymore Mike Myers sequels at the moment. I don't want to see Wayne's World 3, Austin Powers 4, Shrek 4, So I Married Another Axe Murderer, none of that. He should do some more dramatic work or some supporting roles, anything but more sequels.
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2008 I just looked him up to see if I agree, and apparently he's going to play Keith Moon... interesting choice.
luke-o 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2008 I like Waynes World 2 an awful lot. "When did you become a nut bar?" "I had to beat them to death with their own shoes" "...lower case j's" "hung ding mow... Jeff" Good times.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2008 Myers actually did well as the eccentric owner of Studio 54 in "54"...probably th eonly good thing about that bizarre movie.
DarKnight 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2008 I really don't think Myers draws a dime outside of his franchise movies like Wayne's World, Austin Powers, and Shrek, and I wouldn't even say he draws money in those movies, since I think the characters draw money themselves. Look at his starring vehicle movies like "So I Married an Axe Murderer", "The Love Guru", and maybe others I'm forgetting, but no one gave a shit about those movies. Guest Cal Moriarty Report post Posted August 4, 2008 But those are Mike Myers's characters. What the fuck are you talking about?
DarKnight 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2008 I'm talking about the characters being good and well-written on their own (and sure Myers does have his jokes too) to where people like to see the movie because of the characters. Wayne is a funny character, Austin is a funny character, but in a starring vehicle like the Love Guru? Not so much.
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2008 Hate to break it to you but Mike Myers created all of those characters except Shrek and wrote (or co-wrote) all of the Austin Powers and Wayne's World movies. Even with Shrek, Myers brought some ideas to the table. Call him out for being dreadfully inconsistant but saying he wasn't the draw for the Austin Powers or Wayne's World is a mind numbingly stupid argument. Shrek is a bit different as I think the draw for that (as with any of the DreamWorks CGI movies) is the all star voice cast.
Copper Feel 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2008 Austin Powers in particular since he played three (and later four) of the most well-loved characters in the series.
DarKnight 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2008 I wasn't saying that Myers doesn't draw as those characters, since he does, but I don't think many people say stuff like "hey, its that new Mike Myers Austin Powers movie", they instead say "Its a new Austin Powers movie". Obviously, no one could ever see anyone else play roles like Austin Powers or Wayne, but I just think that Myers doesn't draw outside of his landmark roles. King Kamala 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2008 Well I don't think there are enough non Austin Powers/Wayne's World/Shrek Mike Myers movies to determine if he's a draw. Admittedly, I haven't seen So I Married An Axe Murderer in a decade or so but he wasn't the star that he was today when that was released and a lot of movies starring SNL castmembers in their first starring roles kind of bomb for some reason. Cat In The Hat and The Love Guru were just bad, bad movies. All of his other roles were supporting or were part of an ensemble.
DarKnight 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2008 I'm glad that Cat in the Hat tanked. I haven't seen it, but Myers just looked really creepy and disturbing in that movie. To be honest, who in Hollywood actually has star power? As in, whatever movie it is, it makes a lot of money due to a person being in it. I think Will Smith definitely has star power, since everything he's in seems like it makes $200M or so. I would also say Johnny Depp, but he's also in a lot of arthouse movies, however anything mainstream that he's in does very well at the box office. People say Clooney has star power, but a lot of his movies don't really make that much money.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2008 He only did Cat in the Hat to settle a lawsuit with Universial over him dropping out of Dieter
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2008 That explains that movie's awfulness. What I don't get is that The Grinch and Cat In The Hat movies were equally bad but the latter is almost universely reviled by critics and filmgoers alike (and rightfully so) while the former made a shitton of money and wasn't completely trashed (and in some cases was enjoyed) by critics. It's one of those things I'll never get. Thank God, we aren't seeing anymore live action Dr. Seuss adaptations. Incidentally, The Grinch Grinches The Cat In The Hat special was surprisingly disappointing to me when I saw it as a ten year old. The only thing that I can really remember from it was The Grinch's mother showing up for a musical number at the end.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2008 I can't believe anyone liked Wayne's World 2 at all. Half of the movie goes nowhere, and the other half is like a bad parody of "This is Spinal Tap."
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2008 How exactly do you parody a parody? I think you're thinking that it's a ripoff of Spinal Tap, Invader. Although on the subject of terrible comedy,I wouldn't be surprised if Friedberg and Seltzer attempted to do Parody Movie. A parody of parodies.

DarKnight 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2008 They really need to stop making those Scary Movie/Date Movie/Epic Movie/Superhero Movie stuff. Its just so pointless. The thing that is disturbing about those is that they seem to make a decent amount of money when they come out.

CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2008 I had dinner at Wayne Gretzky's restaurant last October with my dad and brother. We asked how often Wayne was in, etc. She said occasionally, but a handful of other celebrities came in pretty often. When she mentioned Mike Myers, we asked what he was like. She said he was a diva (which a passing-by waitress confirmed as well). We were kind of surprised by it, but after thinking about it for a while, it made sense. Now, the Conan story doesn't surprise me at all. Does anyone think Wayne's World is so beloved is because it was the only SNL movie that didn't suck?
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2008 Does anyone think Wayne's World is so beloved is because it was the only SNL movie that didn't suck? Uh...you're only forgetting Blues Brothers. The greatest of the SNL films. And Office Space could technically be considered an SNL film, correct? Milton originally appeared on shorts on SNL I think. King Kamala 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2008 Blues Brothers 2000 does indeed have some great music. Unfortunately, almost everything else about the movie is terrible. But there is a lot of music in the movie so it's not a complete loss. For the record, I find Night At The Roxbury somewhat amusing but I realize I'm probably in the minority there.
