Man, the Cubs are done. At least their failure will make more baseball fans happy than their success. What a pathetic outfit this is right now.

Czech, stop being a damn woman. You're going to let ONE week of awful baseball offset an otherwise great season? I'm as disgusted as you are about what just happened, but they're still four games up on the Brewers and guess what? They're still going to be after today.

People hate on the Cubs? Since when?

Likely referring to people like me. Considering they are mortal locks to make the playoffs, I don't think I care too much about whatever recent slump they may experience. It'll be when they face the Dodgers or Dbacks in the first round that I'll care.

But for the record, that is the type of play I expect to see if the Cubs are within outs of winning the World Series. I wasn't listening to the radio, but I'd imagine we got another Brant Brown moment from Santo out of that play.

Forgive me if I'm worried, but I can easily see them only winning 5 more games the rest of the year in a worst-case scenario. They look terrible. Even if they make the playoffs, are they going to have a rotation? closer? competent first baseman?

There's no reason to trot Zambrano and Harden out there if it's not absolutely necessary. Regardless of how awful they looked this week, they're still a near lock for the playoffs. I still think they'll win the division. They can't possibly play this badly much longer. Wood is fine. When you don't get to pitch very often, you tend to be rusty. If they're still playing like this in a week, I'll join you on the ledge. Until then, let's accept that it was quite possibly one of the worst weeks a team can have where they only lose two games in the standings.

lol @ the overreaction to the Cubs....

Anyways, Phils close the gap to 1 GB in hopes to end tonight tied with the Mets for first place. With Hamels going tonight, and the Phils pitching being almost dominant this series, it isn't as ludicrous as I thought Friday at 7pm.

Czech is reaching Anglesault levels with his negativity it seems like.

It would be more entertaining if he reached The Don levels.

GREAT JOB CARLOSS ZAMBRANO SUCK DICK SPIC BEANER!!

At the very least, the rhetoric of Czech's "the sky is falling" posts is a lot easier on the brain than AS's or The Don's.

Not really. Kind of hypocritical for a guy who constantly derides other fanbases for excessive negativity to essentially be doing the same thing with his team in first place, still, where they've been for a good chunk of the year.

What this guy said. Plus I would probably say AS was just as intelligent as Czech, it's The Don that sets the standard for that kind of posting.

My god. The Mets were only able to muster two singles off Jaime fucking Moyer. And you want to talk about how the CUBS are looking bad right now?!

What's the infamous Merkle Boner game? That sounds amusing.

You asked last time too.

Regarding the Cubs, making the playoffs is really all that matters. We've seen the '00 Yankees, the '05 White Sox and '06 Tigers look like crap down the stretch and immediately start kicking ass in the postseason. They are still the class of the National League.

Tonight we have Phillies/Mets on ESPN, Cole Hamels and Johan Santana on the mound. A tie for first place on the line. This is what pennant race baseball is all about.

Orioles are now 20 games out of the wild card. If they won every single Sunday, they would STILL not be in first place.

Meanwhile, the Yankees trail the Mariners 4-2. A loss will drop them into fourth place in the AL East.

Boston/Tampa Bay kicks off next week. Tampa will go in leading by a game and a half.

I knew that sounded familiar! Pot.

I googled it anyway, so you don't have to repeat yourself.

Asking this time yielded that dude's dick though, so I'm glad I did.

It's cool.

Keeping an eye on Pawtucket/Scranton. Phil Hughes has struck out nine in seven innings with no runs, Bartolo Colon has a two-hit shutout going. Hughes' fine performance is perhaps a ray of hope for the Yankees (in 2009 of course).

The one comfort an Orioles fan can take out of the season is...umm...Guthrie didn't completely suck. That's it, that's all the good news out of the season. Aubrey Huff decided to hit the ball, of course I think it's a contract year so that explains that. But otherwise, it was a miserable season. Cabrera was erratic as usual, Adam Jones didn't show speed or pop in his bat although that's too early to tell if he'll be solid, Adam Loewen got injured and has become an outfielder (oy), and the bullpen would have struggled to stop the Little League World Series champions. About the only other positive that can be said is, at least they won't lose 100 games.

Hopefully Mark Tex meant what he said years ago about wanting to be an Oriole, which would give them a big bat in a line-up that desperately needs one. Of course they also need starting pitching, relief pitching, a shortstop, a catcher and a third basemen since I don't see Mora lasting the meetings.

I'm still hopeful for something out of the outfield and Wieters in the future, but the pitching STILL looks questionable as ever with half the pitchers arms imploding (as expected). 2009 is going to be another long one for the refuse to spend-refuse to scout someone who won't disintegrate Orioles.

It's 8:04. Why the FUCK is ESPN still showing Football highlights?

I came in here to ask the same thing. This is very, very frustrating.

Edit: First base can be awarded on a catcher's interference? Never seen that before.
