Dobbs 3K Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 If people were to refer to our economy under Bill Clinton as "socialism" they would seemingly get laughed at, yet Obama who seems to have a similar centrist-moderate approach despite some more liberal sounding rhetoric in his speeches, is suddenly "dooming our country with socialism" all because of what exactly, he wants to roll back Bush's tax cuts on the top 2%? Well, it's just going to make the Republicans look like even bigger idiots, since new data is saying that we will start to turn things around economically in the early fall of this year, not in a year or two like some were predicting. Also, somewhat related...I saw a really compelling news story on PBS the other day about Cuba's impending economic boom (oil discoveries and new resorts going up). Any chance Obama could finally open up relations with that country so it's not just Canada and Europe making money off a country 50 miles from our coast?
EricMM Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 Does Jim Cramer on The Daily Show count as "coverage"? Because to my mind Stewart asked tougher questions and posed a more serious stance in his discussions with Cramer than I've ever heard on other news networks.
Dobbs 3K Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 Does Jim Cramer on The Daily Show count as "coverage"? Because to my mind Stewart asked tougher questions and posed a more serious stance in his discussions with Cramer than I've ever heard on other news networks. Seeing how more than half the other news shows on cable are more entertainment than hard news, I would say "Yes, absolutely."

Any chance Obama could finally open up relations with that country so it's not just Canada and Europe making money off a country 50 miles from our coast? I see no reason why not. Some of the reasons we haven't opened up relations with some countries are just laughable. Cuba is one of them. Let's be friends.
Dobbs 3K Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 Well, hopefully Obama is the kind of president who isn't going to stick to Cold War rhetoric, and will be able not to kowtow to the population of just one major US city.
SuperJerk Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 Does Jim Cramer on The Daily Show count as "coverage"? Because to my mind Stewart asked tougher questions and posed a more serious stance in his discussions with Cramer than I've ever heard on other news networks. Stewart is taken more seriously by the mainstream press than Olberman, Hannity, and O'Reilly combined. Okay, that probably proves nothing.
At Home Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 Well no shit. All those networks are the pretty representations of moneyed interests, reflecting moneyed interests. They're utterly worthless.
Guest Czech please! Posted March 14, 2009 Report Posted March 14, 2009 The Daily Show and Countdown are both tolerated by their moneyed interests because they make money. (At least The Daily Show does. I haven't seen many ads on MSNBC that indicate the inventory is in demand.)
Jobber of the Week Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 Stewart asked tougher questions and posed a more serious stance in his discussions with Cramer than I've ever heard on other news networks. That means you need more NPR and BBC.
SuperJerk Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 The Daily Show and Countdown are both tolerated by their moneyed interests because they make money. Czech's having a Howard Zinn moment.
At Home Posted March 16, 2009 Report Posted March 16, 2009 I'm not saying that Viacom isn't a corporation, but it's like the kid who is so far below the radar in school that he can do whatever he wants.
At Home Posted March 16, 2009 Report Posted March 16, 2009 You'd think that Glenn Beck is exactly the kind of person Republicans would categorically shun.
SuperJerk Posted March 16, 2009 Report Posted March 16, 2009 Someone wanna recap? I really don't want to watch the video.
SuperJerk Posted March 16, 2009 Report Posted March 16, 2009 Fox News hit an all time low by editing this old clip: and putting it in this new story: When you take a 6-month old clip, edit it so it looks like the person is saying the exact opposite of what he really was, and then claim someone just said it this weekend, you are not a news network.
Gary Floyd Posted March 16, 2009 Report Posted March 16, 2009 Someone wanna recap? I really don't want to watch the video. It's Glenn Beck crying. anyways
snuffbox Posted March 17, 2009 Author Report Posted March 17, 2009 I guess Shep doesn't find funny faces and weeping to merit tv/radio-god status. He's not really an American.
Spaceman Spiff Posted March 17, 2009 Report Posted March 17, 2009 Oh, man, when Shepherd Smith is scoring points off you, it's time to call it quits.
Czech please! Posted March 17, 2009 Report Posted March 17, 2009 That felt really choreographed and creepy and I feel dirty for having watched it all. Are we in a nation of Howard Beales or what. Holy shit.
snuffbox Posted March 17, 2009 Author Report Posted March 17, 2009 For strange reasons all my own, I doubt that Fox News would choreograph one of their anchors to make fun of their latest multi-million dollar retard investment.
Dobbs 3K Posted March 17, 2009 Report Posted March 17, 2009 So how come the other networks don't call out Fox News for their bullshit more often?
snuffbox Posted March 17, 2009 Author Report Posted March 17, 2009 Oh. You're right then, Czech. Glen Beck doesn't seem capable of being genuine or honest.
Czech please! Posted March 17, 2009 Report Posted March 17, 2009 Oh. You're right then, Czech. Glen Beck doesn't seem capable of being genuine or honest. Sorry for not clarifying! What's weirdest of all is that there's no sound coming from the studio audience. They must have felt like they were held hostage.
PUT THAT DICK IN MY MOUTH! Posted March 17, 2009 Report Posted March 17, 2009 This Glenn Beck "912 Project" shit is starting to verge on "cultish" and it really sort of bothers me that this kook has a national media platform.
Czech please! Posted March 17, 2009 Report Posted March 17, 2009 We shouldn't be surprised. He's a Mormon. He knows all about cult figures. His "9/12 principles" or whatever seem to have either a watered-down-for-mass-consumption Mormon flair (all the nationalism/family values stuff), or self-evident rudimentary libertarianism (free speech, gov't works for me) that anyone can get behind so as to distract you from the 300-level Glenn Beck insanity coming down the pike, like North American Unions or turning Mexicans into fuel.
BUTT Posted March 17, 2009 Report Posted March 17, 2009 Haha holy crap. Beck looked about 5 seconds from yelling "It's still real to me dammit!"
Art Sandusky Posted March 17, 2009 Report Posted March 17, 2009 Shepard Smith is a mole inside Fox News on behalf of real journalists. Remember, during the Katrina crisis he was the guy in New Orleans being shouted down by Sean Hannity while trying to tell the public (rather, the Fox News watching public) that it was a horrible situation down there. I'll bet he gets canned within the year, unable to stand the bullshit anymore.
SuperJerk Posted March 17, 2009 Report Posted March 17, 2009 Shepard also put a right-wing comedian in his place on air for saying McCain's loss was the media's fault.
Czech please! Posted March 17, 2009 Report Posted March 17, 2009 Let's not go overboard in our praise of Shepard Smith here.
