I honestly thought HSM would make like $70 million this weekend. Does that make me an idiot? The Miley Cyrus 3D concert movie made $30 million in its opening weekend with a lot less theaters, and I figured a lot more people would want to see HSM than a concert movie. Apparently not so?

$30.5 for Saw? That's it? WOW, it took a huge fucking nosedive after that 14 million opening day.

Saw II through IV all made in the low thirties in their opening weekend.

The SAW movies are all front-loaded like that. Every SAW opens to about 30 mil and then has a steep drop-off. The final gross should be in the mid-60s.

I thought it'd do 65 million going in, and after the opening day, I thought it would do about 55-60. No way should a kids movie fall 9 percent from Friday to Saturday. I think it will hold up well though, kids movies usually do.

The movie barely cost anything to make, so I'm sure Disney is happy.

Yeah, the actual total itself isn't surprising, but after I saw it make over $14 million on opening day, I was expecting more. I mean, it just barely made more on Saturday and Sunday COMBINED.

Gonna be an ugly second weekend dropoff.

The tickets for that movie were also higher priced than standard movie tickets...I think my wife spent $25 just on tickets for her and our daughter.

I never got why they didn't release the second one in theaters. Sure no one would have predicted how freakishly popular the first one would become but I'm sure they had an idea that the second one would make a shitton of money especially since they can't cost that much money.

I'm sure a lot of people are waiting to see HSM3 until it comes out on DVD or gets aired on the Disney Channel 500 million times...like most people did with HSM and HSM2.

You know, with Halloween being next week I think Saw V has a better shot of retaining some audience than it would otherwise, unless everyone is out trick or treating. After that though....not so good.

I don't think a lot of kids under 12 went to see Saw 5.

I'm not surprised by the list at all. I was hoping SAW V could pull it out, but I wasn't expecting it would. Every year people ask about a new SAW movie, after the first film did so well, Tobin Bell signed on for 6 movies. For the start there was going to be at least 6 movies. As much as I love this series, I really wouldn't like it to go past 6.

I was surprised HSM3 didn't make more than it did to be honest. When my girlfriend and I were getting tickets for Saw 5 on Friday afternoon, I was seeing time and time again, where a couple adults would show up with 10-15 kids in tow (possibly a day care field trip?), buying tickets for HSM3 for all of them. I have a feeling HSM 3 will probably have a lot of staying power in theaters. My girlfriend's niece for instance, watched the first one on Disney Channel, I know at least 15 times, maybe more. I can see lots of kids begging their parents to take them to see this time and time again.

Well, as far as Saw V goes on Halloween I meant that people are at various functions that night, might take a kid trick or treating instead of going to a movie, stay home to hand out candy, anything other than going to the theater.
