Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2008 Too bad for Punisher. I think the mostly unknown Ray Stevenson wasn't an easy sell to movie goers
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2008 The last time a movie opened to more than 10 mil in the post-Thanksgiving weekend was Aeon Flux in 2005

bob_barron 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2008 This hasn't been a very good year for Lionsgate I take it. Â LionsGate is ranked 7th among studios for 2008. Â

The Dames 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2008 I just took a look at the last few years figures. It looks like Lionsgate is improving, it finished 8th last year, so it's moved up and this is the highest percentage market share they've ever had. The top 6 all have established franchises though and it looks like Lionsgate is doing fine given the fact that their main franchise (Saw) is limited in how much revenue it can bring since it doesn't cut through a broad variety of audiences and is rated R. The Niggardly King 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2008 Too bad for Punisher. I think the mostly unknown Ray Stevenson wasn't an easy sell to movie goers  I think the fact that it looks like a straight to DVD movie from every preview didn't help
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2008 Stevenson is the closest Punisher to the comics too. He at least looks and seems like The Punisher. The TV ads definitely sucked for this one, since it is a fairly amusing violent flick. As far as Lionsgate goes, being #7 is basically the glass ceiling for them. They can't really match studios like Warner Bros., Paramount, Columbia, Universal, Disney, and Fox. The only way Lionsgate would catch any of them is if one had a monumentally horrid year. Lionsgate is today's Cannon. Â Considering Quantum of Solace opened at 67 million does anyone else think that movie has had lethargic word of mouth considering it's going to have to stagger to match Casino Royale's 167 million (domestic)? I thought Q of S might be as high as #3 worldwide this year but I can't see it now.
cd213 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2008 I'm happy for ROLE MODELS. The movie rocks and it looks like it has some great legs. Go Paul Rudd!!

Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted December 8, 2008 I liked Thomas Jane in the other Punisher. Dolph Lundgren was hilarious in the role, though.
bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2008 Punisher really did look like shit in the commercials. And I loved Ray as Titus Pullo but he also looked horrible as far as line delivery and cheap-cheesy-DVD delivery goes in those commercials.
haws bah gawd 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2008 I have a problem with a trailer (The new Punisher) that opens with one of the most cliched lines in history, "The battle between good and evil......has begun". Find something new for God's sake.
The Buzz 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2008 I think Punisher will pick up next week, or overseas. The last one did horribly domestically and made a killing in dvd sales and rentals.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2008 Nah, this Punisher is a flop. It will be there for the mandatory 2 weeks and then be gone. The 2004 Punisher was easier to market since Thomas Jane was at least somewhat known from Deep Blue Sea if nothing else, and Travolta was the villain. Â But yeah the TV spots and trailers are hysterically awful. Lines like "Someone has to punish the corrupt" and "I wish I could get my hands on God!" are just...bad. haws bah gawd 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2008 I didn't know Thomas Jane from a hole in the wall before I saw the 2004 Punisher. Now, he's one of my favorites. I even went to the theatres to see Deep Blue Sea, and didn't remember him being the shark wrangler from that film. That's two mentions of Deep Blue Sea in this thread. We should celebrate witht e video to Deepest, Bluest by LL Cool J. Â
Anakin Flair 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2008 I really liked the Thomas Jane Punisher. I liked how it was more of a drama than a straight-out action movie, despite the source material being straight-out action. This one just looked like a bunch of gratuitous action scenes spliced together into one crapy movie.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2008 I knew who Thomas Jane was from Deep Blue Sea and also from playing Mickey Mantle in 61. Oh, and from Dreamcatcher as well. Â Let's face it, there's a glass ceiling on how good a Punisher movie is going to be. It's basically a comic style version of Death Wish. The 2004 Punisher is probably a better actual movie with a better cast and story, but the new one is more entertaining in a crap sort of way.
RepoMan 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2008 I have a problem with a trailer (The new Punisher) that opens with one of the most cliched lines in history, "The battle between good and evil......has begun". Find something new for God's sake. Â Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't some of the Punisher's appeal is that involves a lot of moral grey areas concerncing the whole vigilante thing? Â
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2008 2004 Punisher bored me...except the singing assassin, that was a bad ass song. Thomas Jane wasn't the problem, I just couldn't get in to John Travolta as the villian. Â Â

Anakin Flair 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2008 Twilight was odd in that the first trailers were geared towards marketing it as a romantic movie, while more recent commercials marketed it as an action movie. Don't feel bad about not knowing what it is Rocket, up until four months ago I had no idea what it was either- and they're calling the book series it's based off the next Harry Potter.
