PUT THAT DICK IN MY MOUTH! 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2009 Overall, it was a good year for films. Much better than last year. No way. 2007 was one of the best movie years in recent memory.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2009 Ok, ok. How many of those 114 movies did you see in theaters? Every single one. I don't rank movies that I don't see in theatres. I'm actually up to 116, just haven't ranked them yet. No way. 2007 was one of the best movie years in recent memory. I disagree. I felt 2007 was a disappointment overall, I remember feeling my top ten was very weak. Part of it was my fault, I didn't get around to seeing many of the prestige pictures. Copper Feel 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2009 I didn't see much, as this was the first year I really began watching movies that weren't currently in the cinema (cheers Love Film!). Of what I did see, I liked: Pineapple Express Quantum of Solace Reading Burn After Reading Forgetting Sarah Marshall Zach and Miri Make a Porno In Bruges The Dark Knight

bob_barron 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2009 Oh man The Love Guru was one of the worst films I watched in '08. I've completely blocked it from memory. I just felt sorry for all involved during that one. You could tell that Mike Myers just doesn't get it anymore. How do you do it? Do you only go on discount nights/get in for free? Do you have nothing else that you find worth spending money on? If this is something I should know about you, forgive me for not paying enough attention to the more prominent posters here.. No worries. I live near New York City and an arts theatre, so I can see almost any movie that comes out, no matter how obscure, which helps. Plus, I often do double and triple features. And you're right, I basically spend a lot of my time and $ at the cinema. Regarding byron's list- I didn't see a lot of those films so I can't really comment. I loved Blood and Zodiac, thought No Country was pretty good, and didn't like Ratatouille as much as others. Before the Devil...was really good though. I just wish I wasn't working so much in fall 07, I missed a lot of films I wanted to see.
godthedog 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2009 hey, why not: 1. the king of kong 2. there will be blood 3. no country for old men 4. persepolis 5. michael clayton 6. ratatouille 7. sweeney todd 8. grindhouse (when taken together as an evening's entertainment, in a theater) 9. eastern promises 10. the bourne ultimatum '07 was the only year that had enough top-shelf material that i felt the need to do a top 10 list. pretty stellar year, the best in my serious movie-watching days since 1999. speaking of triple-features, bob...did you ever do a houston street theater odyssey? i got to do it once sometime in 2004 (i think), where i started at the sunshine, then went to the angelika, and ended at the film forum. that was fun. god damn i miss that city for movies. bob_barron 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2009 Bourne would've made my top ten, but I felt the car chase was a letdown. Here's mine: 1) Knocked Up 2) Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix 3) Grindhouse 4) Superbad 5) The Kingdom 6) Gone Baby Gone 7) Juno 8) Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story 9) There Will Be Blood 10) Blades of Glory I thought 2006 was a LOT better than 07. That was a great year for movies.

bob_barron 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2009 Street Kings? Really? The cast was fun for a laugh, but that's about it. Good to see the love for The Bank Job- I was pimping that movie to everyone last spring. Rock 'n' Rolla was cute, but I think it ran out of things to do toward the end. I enjoyed Street Kings, it was like a poor mans Training Day to me. Plus I was really impressed with Keanu Reeves, whom I don't normally like. Rock n' Rolla was an extremely fun movie for me. Kept me interested all through out the movie and had me thinking. I also really enjoyed First Sunday, mainly because of Tracy Morgan and it was a sweet movie. bob_barron 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 Oh shit forgot about Bug, take out No Country and slide that baby right in it's spot. Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 47) Resurrecting the Champ That was one of the most unintentional funny movies I've ever seen, mainly because of Samuel L. Jackson and because I drove by the filming of the movie and saw Samuel L. Jackson and yelled out my window when I saw him, "YEAH THEY DESERVED TO DIE, AND I HOPE THEY BURN IN HELL!!!!", and Sam Jackson looked at me and smiled. It was the greatest moments of my life, my daughters birth comes 2nd. But what I found so funny about the movie is how far off Samuel L. Jackson fell off. He pretty much played the same role in Jungle Fever, and in that role I thought he should've got the Best Supporting Actor Oscar award, where as Resurrecting the Champ he was just dreadful. imajackoff? 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 1. The Dark Knight 2. Slumdog Millionaire 3. In Bruges 4. Iron Man 5. Cloverfield 6. The Wrestler 7. Bigger, Stronger, Faster 8. Hellboy II 9. Wanted 10. Kung Fu Panda Kind of a disappointing year for comedies. I had hopes for Tropic Thunder and Sarah Marshall but was underwhelmed by both.
PILLS! PILLS! PILLS! 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 Can't remember how many movies I saw last year (that were released last year, of course). Not many. Wish I had that kind of time and money and the will to be around the public when I'm trying to escape reality. The Dark Knight I won't elaborate. The Wrestler Great in and of itself, but especially enjoyable for me based on reasons you should already know. Iron Man Couldn't tell you the last year that two tremendous superhero movies came out. The Hammer Did anybody else see this? They should. Cloverfield In the minority in that I really liked it. And I usually hate this kind of stuff. Forgetting Sarah Marshall Laughed my ass off. Pineapple Express Great action/thriller spoof. Burn After Reading Better than I expected. Though I expected it to be a letdown. Catch 22. Tropic Thunder Didn't realize that it was Tom Cruise until the end. Yep, I'm that guy. Indiana Jones 4 Liked that it had Karen Allen. That's about it. Just John 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 Am I the only one who saw Miracle at St. Anna? I haven't seen it on anyone's best or worst lists. It would place in my top 10, although the order is yet to be determined since I haven't seen films with limited release yet (Gran Torino, The Wrestler, etc). Also, I'm disappointed by the lack of 10000 BC and Prom Night on the "worst of" lists, although maybe I'm the only one who (stupidly) saw those too.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 A lot of films I anticipate being on my Top 10 I haven't seen yet, due to either not playing in my area, or they are in my netflix que still, but here are the my favs of 2008 so far in no particular order The Dark Knight Let The Right One In The Wrestler Forgetting Sara Marshall Pineapple Express Tropic Thunder Bigger Stronger Faster Anyone here heard of brightsidevideos.com ? I watched the Wrestler earlier, next up Gran Torino. I kind of feel like an asshole watching these online, but hey I can't really afford to see these movies at $10 a pop at the theater. I paid to see all the movies on my best of list except The Wrestler, so fuck it, I guess, right?
Big Ol' Smitty 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 Why no love for Traitor, smitty? I'm a fan of thrillers, and I was impressed that for once, a thriller didn't go off the rails in Act 3. I loved Cheadle putting all the terrorists on one bus. Maybe I had just gotten too excited about it in my head, but it was just really underwhelming to me. I guess part of it is that I am studying national security stuff and I couldn't get past how implausible the story was. One other thing is that when you find out that Jeff Daniels is the only person who knows Cheadle is working covertly it becomes obvious that he is going to die. The movie wasn't boring, it just wasn't as great as I hoped it would be.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 I really regret not seeing In Bruges.
