I figured that the two-hour Nashville Star (which I have no interest in watching... unless Jewel is in a bikini) had something to do with that. Regardless, I'd still say that less talk, more action might help their ratings as opposed to showing us action in highlight form.

Hey, I'm a Leafs fan. Like Bills, Indians and Cubs fans (to name a few others), I'm used to being disappointed.

Jenna's turned on Tito and is joining the UFC in some capacity... Or, the UFC/WEC is announcing it's first-ever draft lottery...

Yeah, what the fuck was that? Are Layla and Hulk's salaries so big that they need to show them on the screen more to get their money's worth? It's not like we're getting useful comments from the contenders during these things. NBC needs to figure this out: People watch Gladiators for the competition first, Gladiators second, competitors third. BTW I loved that stat about Crush outweighing the annoying short woman by 40lbs. Gina barely made 145 for her fight at 140. You cannot tell me she's not at at least 150 for this AG season...

If I was in Texas, Whataburger. Since I'm in Dayton, OH, this week, I'd say that a Skyline 5-way would be good if it's not too late. Since it is, then I'd go with the chili/baked potato combo at Wendy's. Most important for me though - I went to Kroger after I landed and got a 6-pack of water for rehydration later on...

I'm the ice cream man. I'm a one man band.
starvenger replied to PILLS! PILLS! PILLS!'s topic in Food Folder
Dunno, but I used to get iced coffees at the bubble tea places because they probably had the least amount of sugar in it. Back to the Ice Cream Man, I'd imagine that whoever does the skatepark near Markville must make a killing. Not only have you got tons of kids there, but the train station is right there as well as a community centre. BTW, the Popsicle site calls the red white and blue one a "Firecracker", although they seem to have the same thing but-not-as-pointy called a mega-missile -
Dude, I'd never disagree with "cheat to win", but let's face it, if Batman is only on one team, then you're still taking a Superman first. Then again, I'd probably be an idiot and take Deadpool in round 3...

Clearly, the ladies will be on their knees faster than those working at the Locomotion. Since I'm an idiot, and it's really a coin flip (Florian has QQ to Huerta's AK) I'll take the bet. Hey, as long as we don't get rid of my daughter's picture. Geez, a reference to the Loco and my kid in the same post. Pardon me while I wash my mouth up with soap...

If you've got another one similar to the last one (but without the requisite devil horns. C'mon Mike - you call yourself a smark? ) I think you've got a winner for the sig...

I think somebody needs to explain to me why Rocket looks a lot like Sidney Crosby...

My thought is twofold - there are at least 4 different versions of the guy out there in the DCU alone, and that's not counting Mon-El, Apollo, Power Girl or Supergirl. So having a draft would more or less cancel each other out, so Either DQ or arbitrarily assign. I should point out at this time that when I made that suggestion, I was about as drunk as Lei Tong on a good day. To say that there's not much to do in Dayton is an understatement. Although I do love me some Skyline Chili. Second, you'd have to establish parameters as to Superman's power, and I don't think you'll get enough people to agree with one statement.
-
Honestly? No. But you'd need to start by either DQing or evenly distributing Superman (Earth-1, 2, Kingdom Come, Hyperion (both of 'em), Prime, et al) analogues.

This is why we like Clay Guida. He's a nutcase, but in a good way.

Greetings from lovely Dayton, OH. And holy fuck is this Torres/Maeda fight awesome. Of course, it could be the Capt. Morgans spiced rum (thank you, duty free shop) talking...

I went to a McDonalds this morning (a different one from the ones I normally go to... still trying different ways to drive to work) to get an Egg McMuffin as I normally get it - no cheese, but with lettuce and tomato added (hey, I like it that way). And for the first time, they told me "we have to charge you for the lettuce and tomato". Naturally, my reaction was "excuse me?" They explained that they have to charge for the extra items that they put on your sandwich, but since I wasn't getting any cheese I could have the lettuce OR the tomato free. They'd have to charge me an extra $0.20 for the other item. Bear in mind that this is the same company that will charge you a loonie to put an extra slice of process cheese on something, but doesn't charge you extra to dress your double cheeseburger "like a Mac". Now granted 20 cents is not a whole lot in the grand scheme of things, but at this point it's the principle. I've never paid extra for the lettuce or the tomato, and I wasn't about to. I got the supervisor, and explained about how this was the first McDonald's I'd been to that has charged me extra for a tomato slice. They didn't budge. I argued about how Harvey's, Subway and Timmy's would all put these items on my breakfast sandwich without charging me extra. Nothing. So at this point I do what I think any of you would have done - yelled out about how this was a bunch of bullshit, told them to cancel my order (at which point they asked if I still wanted anything?) and left. Any similar stories?

Five Ounces is saying that Gina has to give 12.5% of her purse to Young because she didn't make weight, so I suppose the fight goes on as a catchweight bout. BTW, Carano's AG bio lists her at 141lbs. Anyone like to call bullshit on that one?

MMA Comments that Don't Warrant a Thread
starvenger replied to RavishingRickRudo's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
I think it's in the right place. The point about the Kimbo post was more that the guy had 2 posts in just over a year and less that the post wasn't threadworthy. I really could care less about Lashley or Kimbo, btw. (Edit: I just realized how bad that sounded. Um, how about that Syesha chick on American Idol?) -
Honestly? It didn't draw me in like I thought it would. Like you said, it was written well, but to me it felt like it was actually LACKING in that epic feel. If it were not meant to be DC's event of the year, it's perfectly acceptable stuff, but coming off of Infinite Crisis and a promise that everything in Countdown was leading to this, well, it's simply not good enough. Part of this, I think, has to do with my liking Johns style more than Morrison's, and FC#1 was very much in the Morrison style. Overall, I don't think I'll be picking up #2.

Hey Lush - forgot to mention that Carano is fighting this Saturday on EliteXC's CBS debut. Should be a pretty good fight...
-
I think it's about right. Granted, Saturday night is not the most ideal spot for viewers in the US (I think college football is an exception, not the rule) but at the same time poor ratings won't kill the show entirely. BTW Carano's Gladiator bio makes mention of her fight this weekend - although understandably not who is airing it. Just thought that was interesting.

Because two of those three television shows were cancelled prematurely. Angel really needed at least one more season, and Firefly was interfered with so badly that it was the equivalent of getting yanked into an alley, gang-raped, castrated, then left to bleed to death in the gutter. And despite Joss's protests that it will be a whole different deal this time, he's once again going back to Fox, the network which did the aforementioned cornholing. Angel lasted 5 seasons, so I'd say that there was probably sufficient time to end the story well. Firefly, I don't disagree with you on (even though I didn't care for the show). As an aside, they manged to do a 2-for-1 on the gang rape given how they yanked Dark Angel at the last minute in favour of Firefly. That's a two-parter. First of all, why watch them in anything else? Pure obsession. Like someone who's a huge fan of The Shield wanting to see everything else Michael Chiklis has ever done, despite the fact that he hasn't done much else worth watching. But the more complex part: Whedon is kinda like Paul Heyman in that he can take a mediocre performer and somehow stick them in an absolutely perfect role which plays to their strengths and avoids their weaknesses. I've never seen a single movie Sarah Michelle Gellar which I thought was any good, but she's wonderful on Buffy. Same thing with most of the cast members, Whedon's show is almost always where they've done all their best work. There are exceptions, Seth Green comes to mind, but few of the main cast members have ever done much else worth watching. Yeah, it's a two-parter, but your reasoning makes sense. Thank you.

Hmm, yes, well, I suppose that was obvious, meaning my question wasn't the right one to ask. Let's try this: What is it about a Whedon fan that would make them want to watch a show such as Dollhouse, yet make ready to launch a preemptive Roswell-like campaign because they're convinced that it will ultimately fail? That seems rather defeatist and perhaps a bit... obsessive? Or what is it about his stuff that would make you want to watch a former Buffy/Firefly et al actor simply because they were on one of his shows? I guess I'd find it hard to believe that all the actors on the shows are incredibly good ones. Probably what stands out to me is people who watch Bones because David Boreanaz was Angel - I suppose the show has it's following but compared to other procedurals it doesn't really stand out. Maybe it's me though - since having the kid I pretty much cut down my "required watching" to (at most) one show a day and even then I don't necessarily watch because the little one demands a lot of time (go figure). So maybe my view of what I MUST follow (in terms of things from one TV/Movies/Entertainment creator) has been skewed by real life?
-
I think you could probably call that a New York Knicks/Mets combo. The pieces are there but the chemistry is totally lacking. Aside: Not really a Whedon fan (His Astonishing X-Men run being pretty good), so someone has to explain to me the knee-jerk "it's Whedon, I must watch it" reactions. I like Elmore Leonard's crime fiction works, but it doesn't mean I must read all of his books (like his Westerns) or watch all movies/shows based on his works, so what drives you to watch anything Whedon? I suppose this is a knock on Whedon (as well as Ben Edlund), but I didn't really care for Titan AE's story. Animation was great though.

Yeah, but exposure on AG has got to be better than just being on TNA, so good on him, I guess.

No-longer-deaf guy is probably the favourite now to be Grand Champion - I think he'd have been around 90sec if he hadn't popped his shoulder...
