  1. That doesn't really make sense. Shrek 2 made what, 120 million last weekend? If it was selling out all over the place this week, how would there have been space for almost twice as many viewers last week?
  2. That will end up costing you a lot more than 8 bucks.
  3. Another interesting number is that The Day After Tomorrow set the record for the biggest opening by a movie that didn't open in #1, and basically doubled the previous record in that category.
  4. Frankly I wasn't surprised by that one, after all pork is the official food of the US government.
  5. Even a WWII memorial isn't immune to politics in Washington, huh? I read that column, and I don't really see how it politicized anything.
  6. The estimated opening day for this was 24.3 million dollars, which means it should have a pretty good first weekend at any rate. I doubt this thing will have much in the way of legs though. For all the overblown controversy this movie has generated, I've found the best advertising of it so far has been their NBA tie-ins. The ad which features clips interlaced with NBA highlights is pretty good. BTW, I actually liked "The Core" as far as disaster movies go. It was cheesy but at least for once they made the scientists the main characters, and not a bunch of scruffs like in Armageddon.
  7. So instead of this being a political statement, this is just good old fashioned vote buying? My faith in humanity is restored. -let's just say it moved me...INTO A BIGGER HOUSE!
  8. While I loved the original cast and the show, it had stagnated quite a bit over the last few years, and last season was one of the weaker ones in a while. James Spader's addition totally saved the show (Alan Shore is one of the greatest characters in TV history), and the spinoff (with William Shatner's hilarious Denny Crane character) is going to kick all different sorts of ass.
  9. Now, Marney isn't here to defend herself against the charge of being a woman. Jumping to conclusions is so unfair. As has been pointed out, the bin Laden family is HUGE. Nobody seems to know EXACTLY how many members are in it --- and Osama is definitely not a favorite. -=Mike I believe I heard that Osama has approximately 39 relatives that are either brothers/sisters or cousins of some sort. Maybe that included relatives within one generation of him on either side as well, I don't remember. And as you alluded to, several of the more successful, influential members of his family in the USA (one was a lawyer in Boston I believe) have disowned him and refer to him as the family's "black sheep".
  10. Am I the only person on earth who found this whole thing completely normal when it happened? I mean, it doesn't seem far fetched to assume that the Binladin family (the spelling they used in the USA, by most accounts) would have been ostracized at best, and become targets for nutjobs at worst. This is such a non-issue to me.
  11. Is the Senate really THAT partisan that controlling it is such a big deal? I mean, guys from both parties are pretty good at driving the pork truck. And it's not like Bush vetoes much from either party, partcularly spending bills with a lot of pork attached.
  12. Mike has been against the campaign finance reform bill (McCain-Feingold) since before Bush got elected, so you guys should stop tossing around insults that have no basis in reality.
  13. Maybe the military likes having a unisex navy because it prevents guys from doing it to get off like in prison, which would hurt the military's "don't ask don't tell policy". New Navy slogan: "When we rape, we do it the way God intended!"
  14. Eugene is getting the biggest rubs in history.
  15. Its on their 4th season. They have around 20-25 episodes before the beginning on the 4th season. And Hogan, you better get yours soon. they are selling out everywhere with major backed up waiting lists. Just ordered it from amazon.ca.
  16. I'm going to make sure to get the DVDs before I move to the States, so that I can show the people I meet just how great Canadian culture can be. I'm also going to try and convince people that TPB represents everyday life in Canada.
  17. I've just completed my B.Sc., majoring in Mathematics. In the fall I will be starting my Ph.D. program in Mathematics.
  18. Regardless of the quality of the rest of the movie, I would love to see this, it sounds hilarious. Wolfowitz is such a vapid twit.
  19. My graduation is this Friday. I'm graduating from university with a major in Mathematics, and am going to be awarded the Govenor General's Silver Medal (awarded in Canada to the top graduate of each institution). Next year I'll be doing graduate studies at the University of Oregon.
  20. Transformers the Movie was on TV today, funnily enough (and for my fellow Canadians, it's on again tomorrow afternoon). Me and my brother spent the rest of the day discussing the sheer awesomeness of it: the story, the characters, the music, everything. GI Joe was on last week, and is ofcourse another classic.
  21. The federal Liberal party is the "Party Of Whatever Will Get Us Elected". The various Liberal parties in Canada really run the spectrum in terms of politics, despite all having the same name on the marquee. For instance, the Liberal party in Quebec is led by Jean Charest, a former leader of the federal Conservative party. BC's Liberal party is even more conservative.
  22. This show (called "Fleet Street") is my early contender for best new show of the year, given how awesome Spader was all year on the Practice, and how well the new characters worked as they started to introduce them late in the season as the focus of the show shifted to the new one. I am eagerly anticipating this one next year.
  23. It's 2-3-2 in the finals because the Lakers and the Celtics were playing against each other every year and they didn't want to have as many trips across country. By the way, is everyone still so convinced that the Lakers are done? Yeah...I am. still convinced Ripper? yep
  24. NEVER doubt the ignorance of the general public when it comes to movies based on a historical event.
