  1. Over/Under on the number of times the announcers compare Jeter and/or A-Rod to Spider Man?
  2. I for one think that would be great! Moore spends a week eating at McDonald's, doesn't get any bigger (noticably anyway), and concludes that greasy fast food is not that bad for you. Actually it raises an interesting question: does Moore approach it from a negative angle because it involves his hated "big corporations", or from a positive one because it involves his beloved "junk food"?

  4. If you've ever done some serious biking you would know that clothing is absolutely the best, most comfortable stuff to wear for a good bike workout. I always wear my USPS team jersey when I bike now. As for obstructing traffic, boo fucking hoo, it's not hard to go around someone on a bike. It is when they zig zag and abrubtly jet out into the street or stay several feet away from the curb. We've spent tons of money on bike paths in MA; why can't people just ride on them and stay off the street. Same goes for joggers. There is a perfectly good sidewalk on just about every street, jog on that, not the street. The street is for automobiles. WHether or not they're comfortable maks no difference, they are still really goofy looking, especially on a 60 year old man like John Kerry. 1. Bikers are supposed to bike on the road, not the sidewalk. In fact in many cities biking on the sidewalk is finable (as is riding without a helmet, which does not get enforced nearly enough). 2. Bikes like the one Kerry is riding (road cycles) are meant to be used on paved roads, not paths. These bikes are not mountain bikes and cannot handle abnormal ground conditions without becoming unstable. I agree that people who zigzag around on the road are idiots and need to learn to control themselves. But on most roads in North America there is more than enough space to bike between the traffic and the curve, provided the drivers are staying in the marked lanes and not driving like assholes or trying to pass people on the soft shoulder (which is illegal last time I checked).
  5. Shaq: I'm like the Pythagorean Theorem, there's no answer to my game. Especially hilarious if you know that the Pythagorean Theorem has more known proofs than any other result in mathematics.
  6. That Rasheed interview was great. Totally taking the piss out of the usual cliche-filled interviews we get from pro athletes.

  8. and... Now, I'm not really sure what that one has to do with JOTW's statement. You basically posted a "Sharon isn't opposed to peace" blurb when that wasn't the issue brought up. It IS a fact that two thirds of the members of the Lihkud party voted against Sharon's withdrawl proposal a few days ago. Sharon had stated on the record previously to the vote that he would consider a vote against him a no-confidence vote and that it would probably result in new elections. After getting trounced, he quickly backtracked from those positions; it's obvious they were just empty threats being used to try and steer voters to his position. Sharon should be turfed regardless of what is happening with the peace process, because he's a blatant criminal who has commited influence peddling and other offenses that will result in his indictment in Israeli court. He's so corrupt he makes the Italian government look on the level.
  9. Even if you don't like any of the mushrooms you've had before (I'm not a fan of regular mushrooms at all), I practically guarantee that you will like porchini mushrooms if you ever get a chance to have them. I had polenta with porchini mushroom sauce, and it was one of the most beautiful things I've ever tasted. Porchinis have a taste and texture to die for.
  10. I felt like I was watching the sequel to the equally awful NBC movie "Atomic Train".
  11. I have some friends whose bikes run an upwards up $4000-5000. Mine only cost $1000, some bikes have a front suspension that costs more than that alone. I'm not sure how that bike Kerry is riding costs $6000 though, unless it's a Tour de France level road cycle. Anyone know the manufacturer?
  12. For an interesting and well-researched perspective on these issues, I recommend "The Sceptical Environmentalist" by the Danish statistician Bjorn Lomborg.

  14. If that was directed towards not voting for Bush, you obviously missed the part about it not mattering who is president, that's what's so troubling. If anything Kerry as president would make a draft MORE likely since his plan is to increase the number of troops in Iraq (by 40,000 I believe), and the senators who are proposing the current bills to reinstate the draft are both Democrats and in general Democrats are the ones who grumble about bringing back the draft since they see the volunteer service as unfair to the lower class who they believe inproportionatly make up the army. Then again Bush is obviously more of a warhawk and would be the more likely of the 2 to extend the war on more fronts. So, that's the thing, it doesn't seem to matter who's the President if you believe the rumors, since this is in the works on both sides in Congress anyway, but again that article I posted is reassuring in its logic. It could become an issue for house elections though, if people decide to run for congress on an anti-draft platform.
  15. So, we can agree that Koppel might have a financial/self-promotional motive to do this. But how on earth does sweeps translate into a politically charged motive as Sinclair Media contends? If Koppel is doing this strictly for sweeps and for the attention, then sure that's somewhat exploitative, although probably not much more than SI having Pat Tillman on the cover of this week's issue. But I don't see the political motivation, given that this can be interpreted in so many varying ways.
  16. Quite frankly, I do not support --- AT ALL --- banning of abortion. In my eyes, it is too simple a solution. I wish to change America's heart and soul --- not the laws. I want abortion to be all "safe and legal" --- and non-existant in this country because people find it deplorable. HOWEVER, partial birth abortion has no place in a civilized society. -=Mike So what's your argument? That pro-choicers are extreme, or that the group who supports partial birth abortions are extreme? Because I agree with the second being extreme, disagree with the first. Same way pro-lifers arn't extreme but the ones who bomb clinics obviously are. The 2d group. I think pro-choicers as a group tend to be EXCEPTIONALLY intolerant of opposing views --- and their LEADERSHIP is so over-the-top it makes the rank-and-file look bad. -=Mike That of course is because so much of their main power base (who make up a large percentage of the leadership) is made up of feminists. Most male pro-choicers, from my experience, are much less over the top.

  18. This part is particularly moronic (but i'm guessing others have pointed that out already) Following this line of thought, is anyone else positively sick of reading rants on the internet where the "writer" uses questions to make it sound like they are talking to whoever their subject matter is as if they are listening, be it George Bush, Vince McMahon, or whoever? I typically stop reading anything that includes things like "Get it, Mr. Bush? " or "are you listening Vince?!?!?!?".
  19. Kobe Bryant.
  20. Of course, there are just many many people who take the converse approach: Christian stuff like the Ten Commandments momunent is A-OK, while stuff like this call to prayer is not. Personally I disagree with it all, keep the religion inside the churches/synegogues/mosques. I don't want to hear a call to prayer on the airwaves any more than I want to have some guy telling me "Jesus loves you - go to church" while I am waiting for the bus, which happen just this week.
  21. Why does all of Moore's "political commentary" read like it was written for a web blog?
  22. What the fuck was Buffalo thinking? As a Dallas fan this more than makes up for the initial disappointment of being able to pick Jackson and then dealing the pick away.
  23. Someone want to state the deal in full? EDIT: n/m found it on espn.com
  24. Best thing about last year's draft was the Vikings running out of time and forcing a bunch of teams to make rapid-fire picks.
  25. Was Chingy exempt from this or something?
