That's some pretty funny stuff, you've made my day, VF.

I watch it, am on track to winning 90 bucks in a season pool for it.

It's about that time for "WWE announces 2007 DVDs."

UFC = elbows are allowed, kicks/knees to a downed opponent's head are not, gis and shoes aren't allowed Pride = reverse all the above -
Here you go! I'm glad I'm the not the only person who loved that tune!

Plesantly surprised at the match selection. Wargames was a great inclusion.

Thanks, I wasn't for sure if it was three or not. In that case, Penn has no excuse for gassing after two rounds. I'd like to believe he got a sperated rib, but that seems kind of unlikely considering the same thing happened in his fight against GSP.

Best UFC in a long time. Big props to Hughes and Penn, Hughes for weathering the storm and not embarassing himself again, and Penn for stepping up to the plate on 3 weeks notice and making a fight of it.

Should I pick up Jeremy Stevens when he's healthy and drop Kellen Winslow Jr., or should I go with a wait and see policy? Here's my team right now, if anyone would like to venture any opinions: QB's: Bulger, Vick RB's: Tomlinson, C. Williams, Bush, Gore, D. Williams WR's: Wayne, Coles, Branch, Horn, Givens TE's: Gonzalez, Miller, Winslow D: Pitt K's: J. Brown, Mare

Meh. I think a majority of Pancrase fighters sucked pretty badly without works and pussy rules to back them up, much like a few SHOOTO guys had to learn at the early JVT's. EDIT: The similarities between the two are the pussy rules and mediocre grappling, not the works. Well, compared to some of the guys the UFC was bringing in they were Fedor level. -

Yeah, Pancrase was MMA before UFC. A pretty watered down, slightly sissyfied, slaphappy version of MMA, but yes. They had more fighters with a general knowledge of MMA than the UFC did at the start, though, which always made me think of how awesome Pancrase would have been in the early days with full MMA rules. -
I love this thread, I almost spit Dr. Pepper everywhere while reading it.

Heh, this was pretty funny, driving the mods into exile. El Cubano was the shit, damn was THAT a long time ago or what?

Thanks for the tip, no more "Can I have some ketchup, please?" from McDonald's it will now be "Gimme an insane amount of ketchup."

Not entirely true. Henderson was in Rings by that point, Saku and Wandy were signed with Pride, and Liddell was a relative nobody at that point in his UFC career. -

At least the Pancrase question! And was Shamrock/Ortiz any good? Frank Shamrock that is. Pancrase; depends on whether you mean old or new. Old has modified MMA rules: no closed fist strikes, standing or on the ground. Many fighters such as Bas Rutten, Masakatsu Funaki, Minoru Suzuki, the Shamrocks, Guy Mezger, Yuki Kondo, and Maurice Smith fought in it. IIRC, Jushin Liger and TAKA Michinoku fought once a piece in it. New is more or less Pride rules, with maybe a few tweaks, though I haven't watched a show since Barnett fought Yuki Kondo. Shamrock against Ortiz was great, pretty legendary fight. -
If this was Alabama they would have received the "death penalty."

Wow, lots of good games on this week, the rankings should be shaken up considerably after Saturday.

Don't worry, it's just Lei, he's always pissed off. I was just looking out for EHME. OR DON'T YOU LIKE BLACK PEOPLE?! LAWLZ -

I heard it was a nerve in his leg, but a ligament tear sounds just as plausible.

Well, the HW division is suffering from a dearth of talent at this point. You've got Fedor, then Cro Cop, Nog, and Barnett, then Sylvia and Arlovski, then pretty much everyone else all jumbled up.

Sergei had that fight won, but he didn't press the action when he had Aleks mounted. Not to mention he got lazy with his defense, allowing Aleks to hit him with one of those sloth-like punches of his. Additionally, I think the word "overrated" gets bandied about way too much these days, with pretty much Fedor and Matt Hughes (that's stretching it) being the only ones immune to that term. Sergei is still an excellent fighter, and just because he loses to highly trained and efficient fighters like Aleks or Alistair Overeem, doesn't make him any less of a fighter in my book.
