  1. Close, but I'm also one of those people who uses to stats to form his own opinion so an opinionated list by me would be negatively influenced by this particular list I just made, if that makes sense And feel free to post your own list, maybe we could argue stats vs. opinion or something to that effect.
  2. Really, Sakurai? He's very strong, but I never considered him freakishly strong for his size. What kind of pro wrestling test of strength, arm wrestling? super pose down? Maybe it could end with a contract signing or a cake or trophy presentation resulting in a massive brawl?
  3. First off, this is not my opinion. Second of all, I may come across as a complete and utter nerd with no time on his hands, but I created a formula which I then used to create this list. Basically, it's a weighted formula that I've made test lists on here with in the past, awarding players for career achievement in both stats and awards, which I will list here: Stats: Career points scored Career rebounds Career assists Career points per game Awards: MVP's All-NBA selections All-Star Game selections All-NBA Defense selections (1st team only taken into consideration) Miscellaneous: NBA Anniversary Teams One thing I should note about the formula; it tends to reward players who had longer careers, while somewhat shafting players who made a big impact during short tenures (Walton, some of the active players on the list). So I suppose a thesis question could be made out of this; "What NBA player had the best career?" I'm still working on a formula that would rank them more towards what they achieved during the peak years of their career, though I seem to have hit a standstill in that area, mainly because I keep redoing it until I get a list that has Jordan at no. 1 Enough nerdy blabbering from me, here's the list: 50. Pete Maravich 49. Steve Nash 48. Alex English 47. Jason Kidd 46. Lenny Wilkens 45. Dave Bing 44. Bill Sharman 43. Wes Unseld 42. Kobe Bryant 41. Tiny Archibald 40. Paul Arizin 39. Jerry Lucas 38. Dominique Wilkins 37. Walt Frazier 36. Robert Parish 35. Willis Reed 34. Dave Cowens 33. Rick Barry 32. Allen Iverson 31. George Gervin 30. Scottie Pippen 29. Kevin Garnett 28. Hal Greer 27. Clyde Drexler 26. Gary Payton 25. Isiah Thomas 24. Patrick Ewing 23. Tim Duncan 22. Julius Erving 21. Elvin Hayes 20. Dolph Schayes 19. Elgin Baylor 18. David Robinson 17. John Havlicek 16. Jerry West 15. John Stockton 14. Bob Cousy 13. Charles Barkley 12. Hakeem Olajuwon 11. Shaquille O'Neal 10. Bob Pettit 9. Oscar Robertson 8. Moses Malone 7. Larry Bird 6. Magic Johnson 5. Karl Malone 4. Bill Russell 3. Michael Jordan 2. Wilt Chamberlain 1. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar There you have it. I personally don't agree with the entire thing, but I'm pretty satisfied overall with the results. Thanks for reading and enduring my nerdiness. Any questions on missing players (my master list is almost 150, why a particular player is ranked, etc, just ask. (And for those thinking I have too much time on my hand, it took me less than a day to compile, so nyah)
  4. Damn double post. While I'm at it, DRH you appear to be one of the few MMA posters from DVDR one can hold intelligent conversation with, welcome aboard to the small MMA clique at TSM, my friend.
  5. I think Filho is HUGE for a MW. The man may be boring but he's a physical specimen that's for damn sure, quite possibly one of the strongest fighters pound for pound in MMA (I believe Hughes, Kid, and Rampage to be the top three.)
  6. I'd like to pick Babalu but he faces the same problem that Horn and every other fighter (excepting Rampage) has faced since the Couture loss: An inability to take Liddell down leading to them being knocked out on their feet, which is pretty much how the last fight between Chuck and Bablu went down. To Babalu's credit he did lean/duck into Chuck's kick, but I still don't see how this fight would be any different than the last. However, Sobral has stayed pretty active since that loss, winning a tough tournament and beating a couple of decent fighters in the cage as well. We'll just have to see.
  7. He's kind of like a smaller Heath Herring, but with more skill. He always puts on good fights and can usually beat C and sometimes B level fighters, but usually loses to top rung opponents. Kind of like a JTTS in the fight world to use an *ugh* wrestling analogy.
  8. GSP almost KO'd Hughes in the 1st fight and since then GSP has improved greatly. He was to 1st man to ko Sean Shrek, he submitted Frank Trigg, and he showed his heart and his will to win against BJ Penn. I just feel like George St. Pierre will not give Hughes the same respect he gave him the 1st fight. He's a much better smarter fighter now then, and I just feel he's going to capture the title. Hughes will not takedown GSP. I just don't see how someone who is probably the number two best pound for pound fighter in the world be considered an underdog by almost everyone who has picked on this fight so far. I understand the hold GSP and his charisma and fighting style hold over people, but it's Matt Hughes people!
  9. I don't think he really needs to work on subs, and I don't think he's stupid enough to stand with Manhoef standing either. Manhoef doesn't exactly have the best conditioning ever and he's never really fought anyone who could be considered "dangerous" with subs, let alone someone like Newton.
  10. I let someone borrow it and they lost it
  11. Hey, I have a completely different view on it now that BJ is out. But if it leads to Saku/Newton II I'm all for it. My God, Oyama and Rodrigo has the potential to be hideously boring. I don't think Manhoef will murder Newton either. Newton should weather Melvin's early flurry until he gasses then take him down and sub him. Wouldn't surprise me if it is under a round either. Is it under MMA rules or K-1 rules??? MMA, all of these fights are under K-1's HEROES (MMA) banner. Manhoef has fought under K-1 rules before, though, impressively mauling Tatsufumi Tomihara before pulling himself from the tourney with an injury.
  12. Let's start the av bets on GSP/Hughes. I got Hughes, any takers?

  14. Supposedly it's his father that's behind it, right? I think Kid may be a bit too "old" to come back to amateur wrestling.
  15. I have it and I could probably get it up sometime soon. It's not that bad, the first and third rounds are pretty good but the second sucks. Good enough for what it is.
  16. So I've never heard much of Joy Division, but I dig the Cure and the Smiths and other "big-name" 80s indy rock bands, so should I like them?
  17. You weight 154? Go spar Gomi or Joachim Hansen. You've got more boxing experience than them so I assume you could take them.
  18. This is pretty much the definition of "average." Good matches with good workers, terrible ones with terrible workers.
  19. Really? Their last three albums plus a few selected songs from their early work aren't too harsh. Maybe you should listen to Warehouse: Songs and Stories for some good power pop/alt rock.
  20. I know I could easily outbox Chuck if he has the same stance he has for MMA, in boxing. I have very good head movement and his looping punches wouldn't connect. But if he landed anything, I would be KO'd no question because he is a much bigger and stronger man then me. MMA standards he has great stand-up, but should he enter boxing, any journeyman or anyone with decent skills would knock him out, most likely. And I don't hate Chuck at all, I have nothing against him, I respect him alot. There's nothing to hate about him, he seems like a stand up guy in interviews(Even though a buddy of mine who is an MMA fighter says he's cocky in real life). He has one of the best MMA career's possibly of all time. If I was hater, I would say he would stand no chance with Silva, but I said the fight is 50/50 to me. Bullshit, he's been in the ring in front of thousands of people 20+ times against opponents that are a thousand times better than the 40 year old washed up boxers you spar against. I don't reckon he'd have any trouble outboxing you and then knocking your block off.
  21. Just break a toothpick off in their deadbolt when no one's home. It will take at least a hundred to fix.
  22. Yeah, I got the Springsteen vibe too. Not terrible or anything, but Bruce has fifty songs with better lyrics and music than this so I'll just listen to them. Inc. was right when he said that there hasn't been a great American rock band since Hüsker Dü broke up. Where's the innovation, the originality?
  23. Probably because people think they are beer connoisseurs by drinking a dark beer, even though it's mediocre compared to the more elite darks.
  24. I'll be a bastard and answer that for LOTC; it was Francisco Filho joking around with Hunt prior to their matchup in the GP Finals of 2001. Hunt won in an extra round decision. In current news, check out the matchups for the next round of the Bushido GP, courtesy of prideofficial.com: Filho Vs Chonan Mousasi Vs Gono Hendo Vs Misaki Kang Vs Suloev Interesting that they would match Hendo and Misaki up again so soon. I don't have high hopes for Filho against Chonan, based on the latter's fight against Schembri, but then again I would expect Filho to at least do more than Elvis did in that fight. Looks like they want Gono in the next round, though I haven't seen too much of Mousasi so I could be wrong. I don't believe Kang is the second coming of Jesus Christ like a lot of Sherdoggers, but he at least brings it for every fight and this should be a good one against a competent fighter like Suloev.
