There is some truth to that. Sanders would've easily broken it if he hadn't retired. I think Barry Sanders' retirement cast a palpable shadow over anything Emmitt Smith or any other running back who started around 1990 would do.

First, as for myself and I think most sports fans, we don't think of Emmitt as the king of running backs yet, nor do I think we ever will regardless of what records he broke. Considering he also did it somewhat at the expense of his own team doesn't help. Dickerson's record is almost broken every few years or so. I believe the idea for this list was to show stuff that will be really hard to break ever again. I don't like Bonds being that high as McGwire breaking it was a MUCH bigger deal, but his own record was broken so I guess he didn't qualify. Jordan's spot is perfectly acceptable. When will we see someone win NBA Finals MVP six times ever again, much less in two groups of three?

But what about RVD?

I'm all about watching some Track and Field, especially the Decathalon. It's just such a supreme contest to determine who the greatest actual athlete in the world is, the one who excels in not just one, but TEN events. I also like Diving a lot. I felt bad for not watching the Sydney games after watching the Atlanta games round the clock, but I'll watch me some Athens games fo sho. I LOVE the Olympics.

Hey, SP. I was in Augusta, but you can only imagine what the storm did to James Island and Folly Beach. I slept on the trip back home, woke up when we got onto James Island and didn't even recognize where I lived.

I still haven't started one of those. It's the one overdone thread that I haven't done myself yet.
